Simplicity Bias Tape Maker Machine & Tutorial- Baby Burp Cloth

Creating Bias Tape with Simplicity's Bias Tape Maker

In this tutorial, we will learn how to create our own custom single fold bias tape using Simplicity's bias tape maker machine. The process is relatively simple and can be completed in just a few steps.

To begin, you need to cut your strips double that of what the pattern requires. For this small project, we are cutting two-inch strips, but for larger projects, you can use any size strip you prefer. Cut two inches from each of the triangle halves to create four strips, which will be enough for a small burp cloth.

Next, sew these strips together to make one continuous bias tape with matched corners. To do this, cut four strips and fold them in half lengthwise, right sides together. Sew along the folded edge, leaving a quarter-inch seam allowance, making sure to backstitch at the beginning and end of each seam. Then, flip the strip over, so the pretty side is facing up, and make sure that the pointy corners are sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the end of the strip.

Pin the strips together, with the pretty sides touching, making sure to leave the little pointy part sticking out a quarter of an inch on both sides. Put a pin there just to hold it in place for sewing. Continue this process until you have all the strips together, making sure to backstitch at each seam.

To finish the bias tape, sew a straight line along the edge of the strip, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. This will give your bias tape a clean and professional finish.

One of the best things about Simplicity's bias tape maker machine is that it makes creating bias tape quick and easy. The machine cuts and presses the strips into place, leaving no room for error or mess. Simply cut your fabric to size, feed it into the machine, and press out a perfectly made bias tape.

To use the bias tape maker, start by laying your flannel piece with the pretty side facing down and your other cotton fabric piece on top, with the pretty side facing up. Pin on four sides and take a round plate or saucer to curve those edges. Follow it around with your rotary cutter until you have opened up your bias tape.

Next, take your single fold bias tape and pin one side of the raw edge just a little bit inwards from the outer edge. This will help you keep the bias tape in place as you sew. Then, follow along with your rotary cutter to cut your bias tape to size.

Now it's time to start sewing. To do this, take your rotary cutter and cut a small piece of fabric for a test stitch. Then, line up one side of the raw edge just a little bit inwards from the outer edge and sew a straight line along that edge using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

To finish off your bias tape, simply roll it up over the raw edge of your burp cloth and sew it into place. You can fix any mistakes as you go with your hands, using pins to hold everything in place until you are ready to stitch.

Using Simplicity's bias tape maker machine makes creating custom bias tape a breeze. The possibilities for this project are endless, from making gifts to sewing onto blankets, skirts, and purses. No matter what you make, the bias tape will add a professional touch and conceal those pesky raw edges.

Tips and Variations

One of the best things about creating your own custom bias tape is that you can customize it to fit any project or theme. Simply use different colors, patterns, and fabrics to create a unique look that's all your own. For example, you could use a contrasting color for a baby blanket or a decorative pattern for a skirt.

You can also experiment with different sizes and shapes of bias tape. While two-inch strips are perfect for small projects like burp cloths, larger projects may require bigger strips. The possibilities are endless!

To make your bias tape more durable and long-lasting, you can add an extra layer or use a heavier weight fabric. This will ensure that your bias tape lasts for years to come and remains looking its best.

Tips and Tricks

One of the most important things when working with bias tape is to backstitch at each seam. This ensures that the bias tape doesn't unravel or come apart at any point, creating a professional finish.

When sewing the bias tape in place, make sure to keep your stitches even and consistent. A uneven stitch can create a ruffled edge or an unprofessional look.

To prevent fraying, use a pressing tool like Simplicity's bias tape maker machine to press out wrinkles and creases as you go. This will help keep your fabric smooth and flat, making it easier to sew.

Conclusion

Creating custom bias tape with Simplicity's bias tape maker machine is a fun and rewarding project that can add a professional touch to any sewing project. With its ease of use and versatility, this machine makes it easy to create bias tape in a variety of colors, patterns, and fabrics. Whether you're making gifts, sewing onto clothes, or creating home decor items, bias tape is the perfect finishing touch.

By following these simple steps and tips, you can create custom bias tape that's tailored to your needs and preferences. Happy sewing!

showing you how to make a simple baby burp cloth and a giveaway a big thanks to Simplicity for providing me with the goodies for today's giveaway keep watching this video for details on how you can enter to win today's giveaway prizes for now let's start with the supplies we'll need and jump right into the project to cut out our bio strips we need to cut our Square along the diagonal which is the 45 degree angle if I pull this way on the fabric I get a little stretch and if I tug this way I don't get much stretch at all but if you pull corner to corner along the bias you do get a lot of stretch this is where we want to cut our strips from so turn your Square on point fold corner to corner make sure the edges match now you're going to slice it right down the middle and from that Center I'm going to measure 2 in our bias tape maker comes with a 1in tip already built in and to use it you need to cut your strips double that so we're cutting two inch strips I'm going to slice two from each of the triangle halves cuz for this small project we're only going to need four of these now what we need to do is sew these together to make one continuous by strip matched Corners that match just like this now you're going to flip one back so that the pretty sides of the strips are touching and make sure notice I have these little pointy Corners sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the end of the strip you want to make sure that you have that okay now you take your pin and put it right there just to audition it so you can double check and make sure that won't we pull this strip back if we sew where the pin is we'll end up with one continuous bias strip now that that one's done you continue the process until you have all the strips together pretty side up that point doesn't match so I'm going to flip the strip over there we go now you flip it back so pretty sides are touching making sure to leave the little pointy part sticking out a quarter of an inch on both sides put a pin there just to hold it in place for sewing and you're going to continue doing the exact same thing to all your strips now making sure to back stitch you want to stitch from where the two strips intersect or where you see the pointy Corner sticking out use a/ quinch seam allowance sew all of these up so you get your continuous strip when we open it up this is how it comes it already comes with a 1-in tip this is a little iron surface that you can see if you push it back this way and then lift it this gets hot and that's where it passes through and presses everything basically in place and it rolls out here to put this in you just put it in and slide it Forward on and off button here is the temperature control for the iron based on the different type of fabric that you're using and then we also have a button here to make it start and stop so to set it up you're going to get this little thing and put that there you're going to get this little thing and put that there to enter today's to giveaway all you have to do is click on my face to subscribe to my channel and then leave me a comment in the box below telling me why you deserve to win simplicity's biased tape maker the winner will be chosen at random and announced next Monday on my next video tutorial take your flannel piece and lay it with the pretty side of the fabric facing down and then your other cotton fabric piece put it with the pretty side facing up towards you pin on four sides and take a round plate or saucer just to curve those edges follow it around with your rotary cutter now we're going to open up our bias tape the single fold bias tape and we're going to put a pin you see where that fold line is that's where you'll be stitching so just line up one side of the raw Edge a little bit inwards from the outer edge of your burp cloth and just follow and do that all the way around when it gets to the end I just like to do it the quick and lazy way just trim your strips fold them each in about a/4 of an inch and put a pin there now we go to our sewing machine and again we're sewing right on that inner fold Mark of the first fold now fold everything back once you finish stitching all that in place fold it back and put pins to hold it down because you'll be stitching from this side now notice you can see the stitching that we just did what you want to do is roll the bias tape up over that to cover that and you'll be stitching right against that interior Edge you can fix it as you go with your hands the pins are there to help you hold it in place but Stitch real nice and close cl to that inner Edge just like that when you flip it over that's all you see is just one stitching line so our baby burp cloth is complete and we've learned how to create our own custom single fold bias tape using Simplicity bias tape maker machine now that it's all done you can make these as gifts make them for yourself they're great and the same technique would apply if you wanted to do a larger size instead of a burp cloth make it a baby blanket the same thing goes the biased tape you can attach it to anything that you want to conceal edges to blankets to skirts purses I mean there's so many things you can make and add the bias tape to I hope you all will consider giving this project a try and if you do remember to upload pictures to our Facebook page since I
