APPLE STRUDEL RECIPE ft. Loick Essien - SORTED

**The Art of Making a Delicious Apple and Berry Strudel**

Putting custard into a dish is as simple as mixing together a tablespoon of custard powder, about half a heat tablespoon, with a bit of milk. This mixture will help thicken the custard, giving it a nice pie-filling consistency. The key to achieving this perfect consistency is keeping the custard on low heat until just right.

Another crucial step in making our apple and berry strudel is creating a flaky pastry crust. To do this, we need to buy a sheet of felo pastry, which can't be made at home. We take one sheet of pastry and gently brush it with melted butter, being careful not to rip or tear the pastry. Next, we sprinkle a layer of crumble mix - equal quantities of ground almonds and breadcrumbs, with a bit of white sugar added in - over the pastry.

To add more layers to our strudel, we take another sheet of felo pastry and brush it lightly with butter. We then sprinkle another layer of crumble mix on top of the buttered pastry, followed by a third layer of pastry, again brushed with melted butter. This process is repeated four more times, resulting in five layers of flaky pastry. The final step is to dust the top of each layer with a bit of crumble mix and sprinkle some breadcrumbs over the top for added crunch.

To assemble our strudel, we place another sheet of felo pastry on a flat surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. We then take the five layers of pastry that we have created and stack them on top of each other, brushing each layer with melted butter and sprinkling crumble mix over the top. Once we've stacked all the layers, we brush one final layer of butter over the top of the strudel.

To add some extra flavor to our strudel, we need to roll out a sheet of pastry thinly and sprinkle it evenly with a bit of brown sugar. This will give us that perfect crunch at the end when we slice into our strudel. We also sprinkle a few sprigs of mint over the top of our strudel for added flavor and a touch of green.

Now that our strudel is assembled, we simply pop it in the oven at 200°C for about 20 minutes, or until it's golden brown and crispy. Once it comes out of the oven, we let it cool for a few minutes before slicing into it. And voila! Our delicious apple and berry strudel is ready to be devoured.

**Tips and Tricks from an Expert**

One of our experts, Barry, shared some valuable tips on how to make the perfect apple and berry strudel. "The most important thing is not to worry if your layers aren't perfectly even or precise," he says. "It's all about having fun with the process and experimenting with different flavors and ingredients." He also recommends making sure that each layer of pastry is brushed lightly with melted butter, as this will help keep the strudel crispy.

Another expert, L ESS, shared some words of encouragement for anyone who may be feeling nervous about trying their hand at making a strudel. "Don't be afraid to get creative and try new things," he says. "And if you do happen to make a mistake, it's all part of the process. Just laugh it off and move on." He also recommends checking out his music videos for some inspiration and motivation.

**A Delicious Dessert to Try at Home**

This makes it the perfect dessert to have on hand for special occasions or just a quick treat any day of the week. Simply assemble your strudel, pop it in the oven, and let it cool before slicing into it. And don't forget to save a slice (or two) for yourself!

**Get Creative with Your Filling**

One of our favorite things about making an apple and berry strudel is that you can get creative with your filling. Try using different types of fruit, such as apples, berries, or even peaches, to create a unique flavor combination. You could also add some nuts or chocolate chips for added crunch and flavor.

**A Delicious Way to Use Up Leftover Fruit**

If you find yourself with a bunch of leftover fruit that's not quite ripe enough to eat on its own, try making a delicious crumble topping instead! Simply mix together some breadcrumbs, sugar, and spices, and top your favorite fruits with the mixture. Pop it in the oven until golden brown, and serve warm with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream.

we have already made one apple crumble which you can watch up here that was last year's recipe so today we're going to do another apple dessert that we know is going to love with custard and that's Apple and Berry strw Lush Okay so we've got cooking apples we're going to make a nice kind of filling with some custard powder and some raspberries and roll it all up in our pillow pastry so it's crisp fruity hot great for winter months so let's getting started our cooking apples now you need to have cooking apples rather than eating apples these are Bramley these part from your tree not from my tree from your tree they're not they're not you got loads in your G why did you not bring me some in we'll PE them this side you can chop them that side the game is guys can you make go all the way around I'm never going to do that all the way around all the way around doesn't it make a nice Christmas decoration I think they got a bit rotter especially with cooking apples cuz cookings go ground very quickly once you've peeled them you missed a bit as well you can get back to those not bad not bad those green bits neck oh it's a really wet necklace is it you're going to smell of rotten going to smell of cider cut those up we want sort of finger piece thumb siiz pieces how am I doing this core just always cutting down into the board or another way if I show you another way Y which is sometimes easier if you're trying to get around the core what you can do is just clap down there there there there and that's your core everything else you can pretty much use can you eat the core you can do I'm not convinced you're going to have apples growing ins SES but it's not very nice and what we do is put a little knob of butter into a pan and start cooking off these apples all right give me a chance to cut them Jamie if you really want to cheat I don't recommend it but you can buy tined apples that are all really good to go um which is for a pine you're going to cook anyway not the end of the world but if you've got these fresh ones to use up and you've got loads in your garden just pop them in there there we go they only need a couple of minutes cuz they're cooking apples they'll begin to Mush down and you don't want a complete pure it you still want some chunky in fits in there so with cooking apples we always adding about 100 g of sugar in there not brown sugar sorry I'm not brown sugar not you can do if you like it more sort of caramel Flavor now traditionally strudel would be made with dried fruits and salutas and spices but we're going to put in some berries know these are frozen berries if you don't want those you can always use like pin berries they work just the same therefore all year round all year round absolutely perfect and the reason for this is we want a great color from this dish get that a quick toss and what we're also going to add yeah to thicken it now L said he wanted apple crumble with custard we're going to put a little twisted so we're going to put the custard into the dish this is custard powder okay so just about a heat tablespoon of that and that just goes over there and then again if you can just toss that in then normally you'd add sugar and milk to that and you'd end up the custard this way is going to help thicken it and you get a nice kind of pie filling consistency you can just Stir It Maybe okay cuz it's also good to keep it on the heat and then what we need to do is for our fation in a minute we need plenty of melted butter so we're going to pop that in there lot of but going to melt down over this side we're going to make a mix that's going to be used in our felo uh wrapping okay so we need another Bowl this is the crumble this is kind of the crumble B so this is this is the kind of on the crumble couple tablespoons of ground almonds mhm L actually we do four and four of breadcrumbs now this is just any stale bread that's been blitzed up and white sugar a really simple crumble mix equal quantities of each so now comes the actual construction part so we need a pastry brush yep we need our melted butter now this is felo pastry now this stuff you really do have to buy you can't make this stuff at home I'm going to show you how easy it can be all we do is take one sheet one sheet sheet plaster it with butter whever you can do that you don't want to rip it you don't want too much butter too much pressure just gently brush that over Crum over some of our mix then another layer of f pastry oh you layer it up yeah lots of layers they're so thin but lots of layers is what we want is how you get it thicker how many layers do we need we need five five okay so go another layer of that so you brush that y perfect now you take it turn it over okay right and then brush it again okay so you want layers and layers and layers but much less butter if you a little bit heavy on the butter there so again that's right once we've got that butter layer more of our crumble mix mix you can do it this time you to grab another sheet there okay I've always been good at Art so there's our five layers and I final sprinkle of our bread crumb mix why putting bread crumbs in this in the way gives you a l texture so the past stays nice and crisp okay now this you can add this hot or cold you make this way ahead of time what we're going to do is put that all down the middle as if that's not enough if you want it even easier if you haven't got the time to go to this effort the other option is just to make a mix into a little rkin if this goes on top so that's the leftover crumble the leftover crumble it's leftover mix Lo's got three apple desserts one from last year the Struder we're making and these little giveaways at the end okay individual portions as for our fruit this is where we just need to do the final bit roll it up you got so many layers it's really not that difficult at all okay make sure you've got a nice line of butter at the end cuz that's what's going to stick it down just sealing those ends we should be a to lift that straight up and onto there no problem brush it with butter again just before it goes in a little dusting of brown sugar cuz that gives it it final crunch Barry into the oven 20 minutes at 200° C and we'll get the custard on just take out the other wow there we go oh split a little bit probably down here really doesn't matter because this
