This is the LAST 'Console Generation' - Xbox One X Impressions E3 2017 - State of Xbox

The Xbox Event: A Turning Point in Console History?

I bought an HD CRT TV and a bunch of little professional video monitors that are CRT TVs to play video games on because I feel that is a more enjoyable experience so the Xbox event sold me on the PS4 Pro which is kind of hilarious. But I don't see the Xbox One X as quite as bad as I originally thought. I just hate seeing people so polarized like we're here to play video games not yell at each other over which console you choose and I see the people who just outright completely bash everything the Xbox announced and then I see the people who take the exact opposite approach and are like I can't believe you all are so stupid you can't build a a PC that'll play 4K 60 games consistently for every single game for under $500.

My main point, the only like cohesive point I probably have here is that I believe this is potentially the last main stream console generation from now on we're going to have like uh sequential updates that stay backwards compatible that are just targeting like future upgrades and things like that. And the main functionality will kind of stay and that we're no longer seeing big like new PlayStation new Xbox new so on generations of at least the Xbox and Playstation moving forward Playstation may take a different approach though they're not so keen on the backwards compatibility they haven't realized what's going on here one of the guys for PlayStation actually said like they said something about how backwards compatibility is so frequently requested but it's rarely ever used and looking at old games why would you want to play them they look bad which is the most embarrassing like comment to have said. But it makes a point like why spend money on Engineers for a feature that like 2% of people are going to use but if you want to keep people around in your cohesive like gaming environment you need to do that.

I just released a video about why the PS3 was so great because you could play like all the games and then with PS4 they have done nothing like this and it's very disappointing. Um so I hope they get their act together to catch up. Still, I think that as for I don't know yeah blah blah so uh brain stopped working I got my thoughts out there not a huge cohesive point just that I think it's going to be the last console generation we're going to see continued iterations.

Buying an Xbox and Playing Games

I bought an original Xbox for $500 and currently own two physical games for it, with the rest being digital from Xbox 360 or free Xbox Live games. My Xbox Live has expired anyway, right now or the Halo 5 that came with it. I felt super burned by this purchase which has made me a little biased towards the Xbox platform but any Xbox game worth playing is going to come out on the Windows store or on Steam and I will play it there. So, literally, I have no reason myself to look into the Xbox One X, I do realize other people do but I do not.

The Xbox One X: A Questionable Investment?

I do think the Xbox One X still has a purpose and even if it doesn't like I'm still not sold on the Xbox One X really being necessary especially the way it sold it which is very important to me. The strengthening of the position that Xbox is taking which I thought they were getting away from by pretending they had a new Xbox they're still on the underside that they're not being clear about they are still maintaining that position of a being a platform instead of a console. And so, these are my thoughts let me know what you think in the comment section down below.

Go ahead and subscribe to lagundo if you haven't already. Thank you to him for sharing his thoughts. I expected this to be a more cohesive video where his video his clip would slip right in and then I just kind of rambled uh let me know if you want to see more videos like this I told the life x b to do more colors and instead they stuck with the blue and purple I'm getting really pissed by the color wave feature of their app I'm very frustrated but let me know what you think about the set all that jazz. I'll see you in the next one

microphone quality ant Lin's mod mic 5 is the perfect solution their dual capsule microphone attaches easily and securely to your existing headphones and fits within any setup thanks to the modular were unaware this is actually my E3 2016 shirt I did Cover E3 2016 last year in detail uh for the tetron ninja.com website I did a lot of writeups and stuff so my Impressions were out there this year I wasn't doing that I was doing I I didn't do any coverage of e3 whatsoever and it felt kind of weird my goal was to kind of avoid it like I didn't really want to worry about it this year I wanted to be free of that uh and then it turned out that I obsessed over it and looked at every little detail and watched the Microsoft and Sony press conferences anyway so I I and then I and then I talked on Twitter during the Xbox and Playstation press conferences and I had some kind of current controversial opinions but some opinions that I've actually kind of flipped on so I'm going to talk about that here today I've got my notes we're going to have a guest spot from lagundo who's actually on the E3 show floor and we're just going to see where this goes so if you're unaware the Xbox One X is what project Scorpio turned out to be uh and it will release on November 7th and the current verbally announced price is $499 but they currently don't have FC C approval to to actually sell the product this is probably a normal thing that we just happen to catch in an early state but they can't even like do pre-orders for it yet because they're not legally allowed to sell it yet so that's interesting and the price theoretically could change CU it always can change um but yes instead of project Scorpio it's called the Xbox One X which is the most ridiculous and stupid name in the world and this is a dumb thing to focus on but at the same time this is what confuses people on all the time and I think part of that might have come from the fact that Scorpio starts with s and so that was already confusing to be the Xbox One Scorpio or the Xbox One S kind of weird and if you think about it Xbox One X is just Xbox so they're just kind of redoing Xbox again I I don't know so in my opinion this will be the last main console generation ever theoretically now there are of course for for the main consoles uh obviously you know Atari is introducing a new console soon the Atari box apparently and other companies could make new game consoles but as far as the mainstream gaming console Generations this might be the last one due to the things that I'm going to share here today I I don't entirely know where to start with this so the big selling point for the Xbox One X is that it can do 4K video output and HDR and they promised that a lot of games will run it native 4K at 60 FPS not all games though it's not going to be possible for all games too and we're already seeing like uh the Assassin's Creed engine theoretically you know it it can scale to 4K but their native engine technically has always run at 900p even on PlayStation 4 it was a 900p engine so that can scale to 4K and they could use some checkerboarding magic like they do on the PS4 Pro but theoretically it might not run at a native 4K and that's okay but the fact that they focus so much on this kind of has me kind of iffy so throughout the entire press conference uh we we had a bunch people in a group call and I was actually cracking up I at the time I felt like Xbox had failed I felt like that was the worst Xbox press conference we've had because they promised the biggest lineup which was technically true in terms of quantity of games but in ter of terms of quality or like real punchers of first party titles I felt like it was a flop and then while watching the Sony press conference there was nothing new announced but I was like they focused on Good Games first party games they gave us some cool stuff and the experience was amazing but after I let the dust settle into and stuff I'm not so sure that I still believe that now I record this video while staring at my giant collection of video games because this this perspective is very much not a one-sided console Fanboy kind of perspective despite the fact that I may it may seem like I lean towards PlayStation I play games from all like I'm a PC main I play games from all generations I collect I played more retro you know PlayStation 2 Playstation One Xbox like original Xbox not Xbox One and Xbox 360 games than I do modern games I I I just want to have that out there that like I am more of a a a an all platform gamer than just one but I was pretty disappointed initially with the Xbox press conference now it turns out some really good information was given through an interview with uh the head of Xbox I forget his name right now I've not had a whole lot of sleep this week uh but they had an interview with Phil Spencer uh on Gamespot and he released or he said a lot of very insightful things that made a lot of sense in terms of Xbox's approach to this generation that honestly in my opinion that should have been what the press conference focused on so we'll get all the to all that um but I did want to introduce that my buddy lagundo is actually on the E3 floor which is freaking amazing and that's always been on my list of goals is to be able to go to an E3 and cover it and he went with a couple of his YouTube buddies and is on the show floor and so I had him send me his thoughts on the Xbox One X real quick so let's see what he has to say all right thanks Adam so yes here on the floor of e3 we got a chance to play with the Xbox One X now we were on dev kits we were able to play Assassin's Creed Origins a couple of the other games that were announced during the presser it's good like the game looks good for sure the TVs that they had it on I'm not sure if they were 4K but they definitely looked pretty the game was responsive very very few frame drops the thing looked good that being said I think you probably already mentioned this for the power and whether or not to do that or upgrade a PC is going to be a big question for a lot of people they've only said $4.99 verbally so we're not sure if that's going to be the final price or if they're going to pull a Switcheroo for Gamescom I got to get back to the excitement though so I'll let you take it from here thanks lagundo for taking time away from your crazy busy day I imagine for that so freaking cool to be on the floor so the Xbox One X is of course going to be smaller than the original Xbox or the Xbox One S which is pretty freaking crazy they made a beefier system smaller with an integrated power supply cuz that's what drives me nuts about the 360 and my Xbox one is that the the big external power brick is just a nightmare to deal with and move around and anything like that so that is pretty cool and then they brought out a new Porsche car to subliminally suggest that their new Xbox is like a Porsche which is stupid it was a waste of time I wanted to hear about games and they're like here's a car but at the same time you know that's what they were pushing now now the issue here is if it's smaller that means less room to move air around they do have some sort of vapor chamber it is not water cooling everyone keeps calling it water cooling that is way different than like PC water cooling it's not a new technology by any stretch but it is not standard water cooling but they do have some sort of vapor chamber kind of setup to help cool the CPU and then a blower style fan which to me makes me kind of worrisome that the Xbox One X will actually be louder than other Xboxes which makes the Porsche like comparison kind of accurate because then they're just they're there it's going to rev like the engine of a Porsche which would just be kind of funny it has the same outputs as the Xbox One S so your standard ethernet USB HDMI Optical and so on I have a lot of scattered notes which is why this video is probably pretty scattered as I was trying to wrap around my head around what the hell is going on because like I said I thought the conference was a flop and I was really kind of disappointed for a little while before I realized the bigger picture that's going on here but again they did no good job whatsoever in conveying the big picture which horribly disappointed me but the big picture here is that Xbox which is what we established at E3 last year they just I I thought they were focusing on the wrong things so let me back up here so last year at E3 2016 the big thing that they focused on was the backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 that they were working on and the Xbox play Anywhere program which allowed you or which promised that all future first party Xbox One titles would also be released to the Windows store so that you could play it anywhere so you could play it on the Xbox One on the Xbox One S on the project Scorpio at the time which is now the Xbox One X and on PCS that run Windows 10 which was pretty cool and then we predicted BBK and I made a video and predicted and I've continued to uphold this position or yeah this position that Xbox is now transitioning their Marketplace from being a con a Home console company to being a games Service Company which means that they are basically producing games as a service instead of focusing on the hardware and Phil Spencer confirmed this much more deeply in detail in that Gamespot interview I'll have it linked in the description below that they are they don't want to sell a bajillion console units they want to out sell games to consoles way more and by having more options for the consumer to buy games on and play games on that can only be beneficial for them to sell more games the issue is is very few of the games that they announced are really all that XBox exclusive you know even with the anywhere program aside because it was mostly third party which will at least eventually released on Playstation it'll obviously be on PC but it would have been on PC and Playstation anyway regardless of all this and so they had Forza which okay that it seems pretty cool um a funny note is that the PC version actually supports PlayStation controllers which is good like that's good but it it was funny um and then they had Ori and the blind Force 2 I think was originally Xbox and PC exclusive so that was like it in terms of what is truly XBox exclusive and the rest will either launched first on Xbox and then we'll just launch later on PlayStation or we PC ports of like any games and stuff like player unknowns Battlegrounds yeah it's a popular game it's a buggy very hard to run on PC game that you're promising is going to run at 4k on Xbox not so much and again it's a PC port and they had a lot of those it was console launch exclusive and then Phil Spencer had to try to defend that language and be like well if it's going to launch on Xbox first in terms of consoles but it's already on PC how do you language that well how about you just announce your games or show the trailers without prefacing literally every single trailer with World premiere Xbox and windows exclusive console launch that got so freaking annoying and it meant nothing like it was all pure marketing BS whereas Sony was just like here's a game here's a game you know this is already on PC but it's coming to PS4 here's a game here's game they didn't preface with all this stuff so you don't need that language That is bull that was complete bull but the big Market shift here is that they are creating a platform they've created the Xbox platform that involves more than just a console it is a Marketplace for games it is a hub for playing your video games and the new launch or the the new announcement for the original Xbox backwards compatibility plays a role in that in that you buy an Xbox One family product Xbox One Xbox One S Xbox One X uh any of those and you can play pretty much anything from the new Xbox ecosystem to a degree which is kind of neat and it gives a lot more options and like I said this is what Phil Spencer talked about during the interview that very few people saw compared to the E3 conference which reached the mainstream market and this is what I have a problem with because they spent the vast majority well like the big first chunk of their mainstream worldwide broadcast E3 press conference saying hey we've got a new Xbox you should buy this new xbx because it's so great for all these technical specifications that some of them don't even mean anything to me as a Tech head and a hardware guy like I'm just kind of looking at it like that so what why would I care about that and like oh and this is what bugged me if they could just be more transparent in their public things that everyone sees about what they're doing I think it would make sense to a lot of people and I actually went to GameStop yesterday the day before recording this the day after um the Xbox uh press conference and was listening to some of the employees talking and they clearly didn't understand the point of the Xbox One X either they're like it's cool if you have 4K but it's not like it's not the new Xbox but yet they were selling it as the new Xbox which is what confuses people because by all means the move away from buying a new console every few years as an upgrade like the PlayStation 5 the Xbox 720 or whatever like that transition totally cool like moving away from that but no one understands that that's happening and this is a pretty dram atic shift in the console market and you have to be clear about explaining that or people aren't going to understand and then people aren't going to buy your box or they're just going to be even more confused 4K is still pretty Niche like it seems mainstream to US tech people focusing on it but like I don't even care about 4K gaming like I have a 4k monitor I game at 4k on PC for some games but like in terms of console games like that's not a priority for me the fact that we skipped 1080p is still a problem for me because that is still the mainstream hold and that's only just now becoming like truly mainstream adopted is 1080P and we skipped that and this is what frustrates me is we had the previous generation the PS3 and the Xbox 360 promising highdefinition Graphics in yada yada and when we were transitioning from standard definition it seemed amazing or either there were people who didn't care they were like why do I need that I'm still playing on my 2 TV I can't read text from your new consoles anymore I'm going to stick with my PS2 but it seemed great but then later in the years we found out they were never running games in HD like most games were running at like 500p or like really low resolutions and upscaling so they weren't producing like 720p or 1080p Graphics then we get the Xbox One and the PS3 or the PS4 and they're struggling to run games at Native 1080p they're still running at 900p and things like that and dynamic resolutions and now we're supposed to make the jump to 4K and I feel like they never learned from their mistake here and they're still causing that problem which may be circumvented if they actually explain to people that they're no longer releasing like new full pivot consoles all your old games aren't worth anything anymore just buy an upgrade when you feel like it but they haven't explain that so now it seems like they're just promising new targets that they can't hit because the promise of 4K that they're delivering now in a few years won't look like the 4K that we come to expect when 4K is a little more mainstream so Xbox as I said last year but I am more informed in saying so now it's transitioning to a platform where they want you to just be able to buy something xbx and be a part of the family the Xbox One X is supposed to be their premium model it's supposed to be their you know super high-end which they sort of conveyed with the whole Porsche thing but they never really said and never really said in a way that your average gamer would understand they they like they projected it as this is our new Xbox you should buy our new Xbox not if you have money and want the biggest latest greatest things by our premium Xbox they sold it as a new console not as the pre premium model and that is a problem for me and the fact that it is their premium model that it does cost so much and they're not including an Xbox One Elite controller does bother me so again with this they did announce that there is going to be some original Xbox backwards compatibility and I see people cheering everywhere they're like yay I want to play this game I want to play the original Battlefront games I want to play you know this that and the other and most of those games are not going to work so uh and Phil Spencer actually said this during his interview with GameSpot is that it's going to be a much smaller selection than the 360 backwards compatibility and it's only going to be a few games because of Licensing issues either the studios that made some of the original games no longer exist so they can't get the licenses for it or that they're not going to give them the licenses to make it backwards compatibil make it backwards compatible and examples of this will be Battlefront you know why would D why would EA let people go out and buy and play the old battlefronts on the console while they're still trying to sell the new battlefronts it's the same reason Nintendo always goes to ROM sites and gets rid of all of ROMs of their games when they're announcing new ones like all the Pokemon game boy ROMs just got like wiped from the emulator sites because they just announced that Pokemon Gold and Silver are coming to the 3DS Virtual Console same kind of thing they're not going to allow old games that compete with new games to be backwards compatible so everyone being like I have all these Xbox games I can't wait to play on my Xbox one you're not going to be able to they launched with one game title because that's all they're for sure they can get working and that's it now it is a cool feature and the fact that you can system link between X or original Xbox Xbox 360 and Xbox One with like they had the they had the Crimson Skies running on a system link between original Xbox and Xbox one is pretty sweet but the library will be very small and this is at a time where I'm literally just now setting up my OG Xbox and getting that jailbroken and stuff tutorial coming soon I'm just going to keep using that because most of the games aren't going to work and they still haven't introduced Xbox 360 or original Xbox backwards compatibility over to Windows 10 like I want to see that be a part of the play Anywhere program but we'll have to wait a little bit for that now hyperkin did partner with the original Xbox controller manufactur or like designer dude and they're re-releasing the big ass Duke controller with like an OLED screen to display the original Xbox logo and everything as a USB controller for the Xbox One and Windows 10 which is going to be pretty sweet I already sent them a review request and I got to maybe if they have any left um answer but I will be buying one if nothing else um the Duke controller is one that not a lot of people liked because it was so big and kind of heavy but for those of us with bigger hands the separation of the joystick and the actual button placement of the black and white and abxy buttons and the start select buttons made a lot more sense on that controller I am excited especially like I think it's going to be pretty cool so their goal here with the backwards compatibility and with this like range of options for the Xbox is for anyone to jump in at different price points for example the Xbox One S is now $250 that's a great price point for someone to jump into a console Market that's their goal is for you know people who want cheap easy gaming Xbox One S for those who want the premium features that but they didn't sell it as that instead it feels like they sold it as if if you're buying the Xbox One S you're getting a lesser console and that's not that's going to confuse people that's going to make them not interested because they don't want to buy into something that they're going to be outdated by because a lot of people who don't collect or don't want to keep games around and stuff feel burned whenever they have a huge collection of games over like seven years and then have to ditch them all for the new console so I I don't know I am very torn on this announcement and as far as games like they had a lineup of 42 titles discussed or announced at their press conference which they were super proud of but I just sat there laughing because to me it was a bunch of indie games which I I'm appreciative of the indie game Market but they didn't appeal to me most of them like see if these thieves didn't even appeal to me um they had like one first- party game a couple AAA games and that was it that was it and the rest were PC ports or IND games or whatever I didn't feel like the game announcements were worth it and then I just I options are good and the fact that they're taking a position of they want to build a console only when they need to fit a specific Market need for example Xbox One S fits the cheap need Xbox One X fit the 4K niche market is kind of neat but honestly all this did was make sure that I'm comfortable buying a PS4 Pro cuz at some point I'm going to want 4K gaming uh there's some potential 4K capture cards coming out soon that I will have reviews of um that I will need a console to test with as well but I don't have a proper 4K TV or anything like I have my big main monitor supports 4K but over HDMI it only does 4K 30 because it came from the original like line of 4K screens it doesn't have HDMI 2.0 so I don't even have an option to really truly play 4K console gaming like as a resolution in pixel wh I don't care I I don't I I bought an HD CRT TV and I bought a bunch of little professional video monitors that are CRT TVs to play video games on because I feel that is a a more enjoyable experience so the Xbox event sold me on the PS4 Pro which is kind of hilarious but I don't see the Xbox One X as quite as bad as I originally thought but I single game for under $500 and I'm just like you do realize that the Xbox One X won't actually do that right like being skeptical of it is no worse than blindly believing that it's going to be true so I I don't know I I my main point the only like cohesive point I probably have here is that I believe this is potentially the last main stream console generation from now on we're going to have like uh sequential updates that stay backwards compatible that are just targeting like future upgrades and things like that and the main functionality will kind of stay and that we're no longer seeing big games because this this perspective is very much not a one-sided console Fanboy kind of perspective despite the fact that I may it may seem like I lean towards PlayStation I play games from all like I'm a PC main I play games from all generations I collect I played more retro you know PlayStation 2 Playstation One Xbox like original Xbox not Xbox One and Xbox 360 games than I do modern games I I I just want to have that out there that like I am more of a a a an all platform gamer than just one but I was pretty disappointed initially with the Xbox press conference now it turns out some really good information was given through an interview with uh the head of Xbox I forget his name right now I've not had a whole lot of sleep this week uh but they had an interview with Phil Spencer uh on Gamespot and he released or he said a lot of very insightful things that made a lot of sense in terms of Xbox's approach to this generation that honestly in my opinion that should have been what the press conference focused on so we'll get all the to all that um but I did want to introduce that my buddy lagundo is actually on the E3 floor which is freaking amazing and that's always been on my list of goals is to be able to go to an E3 and cover it and he went with a couple of his YouTube buddies and is on the show floor and so I had him send me his thoughts on the Xbox One X real quick so let's see what he has to say all right thanks Adam so yes here on the floor of e3 we got a chance to play with the Xbox One X now we were on dev kits we were able to play Assassin's Creed Origins a couple of the other games that were announced during the presser it's good like the game looks good for sure the TVs that they had it on I'm not sure if they were 4K but they definitely looked pretty the game was responsive very very few frame drops the thing looked good that being said I think you probably already mentioned this for the power and whether or not to do that or upgrade a PC is going to be a big question for a lot of people they've only said $4.99 verbally so we're not sure if that's going to be the final price or if they're going to pull a Switcheroo for Gamescom I got to get back to the excitement though so I'll let you take it from here thanks lagundo for taking time away from your crazy busy day I imagine for that so freaking cool to be on the floor so the Xbox One X is of course going to be smaller than the original Xbox or the Xbox One S which is pretty freaking crazy they made a beefier system smaller with an integrated power supply cuz that's what drives me nuts about the 360 and my Xbox one is that the the big external power brick is just a nightmare to deal with and move around and anything like that so that is pretty cool and then they brought out a new Porsche car to subliminally suggest that their new Xbox is like a Porsche which is stupid it was a waste of time I wanted to hear about games and they're like here's a car but at the same time you know that's what they were pushing now now the issue here is if it's smaller that means less room to move air around they do have some sort of vapor chamber it is not water cooling everyone keeps calling it water cooling that is way different than like PC water cooling it's not a new technology by any stretch but it is not standard water cooling but they do have some sort of vapor chamber kind of setup to help cool the CPU and then a blower style fan which to me makes me kind of worrisome that the Xbox One X will actually be louder than other Xboxes which makes the Porsche like comparison kind of accurate because then they're just they're there it's going to rev like the engine of a Porsche which would just be kind of funny it has the same outputs as the Xbox One S so your standard ethernet USB HDMI Optical and so on I have a lot of scattered notes which is why this video is probably pretty scattered as I was trying to wrap around my head around what the hell is going on because like I said I thought the conference was a flop and I was really kind of disappointed for a little while before I realized the bigger picture that's going on here but again they did no good job whatsoever in conveying the big picture which horribly disappointed me but the big picture here is that Xbox which is what we established at E3 last year they just I I thought they were focusing on the wrong things so let me back up here so last year at E3 2016 the big thing that they focused on was the backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 that they were working on and the Xbox play Anywhere program which allowed you or which promised that all future first party Xbox One titles would also be released to the Windows store so that you could play it anywhere so you could play it on the Xbox One on the Xbox One S on the project Scorpio at the time which is now the Xbox One X and on PCS that run Windows 10 which was pretty cool and then we predicted BBK and I made a video and predicted and I've continued to uphold this position or yeah this position that Xbox is now transitioning their Marketplace from being a con a Home console company to being a games Service Company which means that they are basically producing games as a service instead of focusing on the hardware and Phil Spencer confirmed this much more deeply in detail in that Gamespot interview I'll have it linked in the description below that they are they don't want to sell a bajillion console units they want to out sell games to consoles way more and by having more options for the consumer to buy games on and play games on that can only be beneficial for them to sell more games the issue is is very few of the games that they announced are really all that XBox exclusive you know even with the anywhere program aside because it was mostly third party which will at least eventually released on Playstation it'll obviously be on PC but it would have been on PC and Playstation anyway regardless of all this and so they had Forza which okay that it seems pretty cool um a funny note is that the PC version actually supports PlayStation controllers which is good like that's good but it it was funny um and then they had Ori and the blind Force 2 I think was originally Xbox and PC exclusive so that was like it in terms of what is truly XBox exclusive and the rest will either launched first on Xbox and then we'll just launch later on PlayStation or we PC ports of like any games and stuff like player unknowns Battlegrounds yeah it's a popular game it's a buggy very hard to run on PC game that you're promising is going to run at 4k on Xbox not so much and again it's a PC port and they had a lot of those it was console launch exclusive and then Phil Spencer had to try to defend that language and be like well if it's going to launch on Xbox first in terms of consoles but it's already on PC how do you language that well how about you just announce your games or show the trailers without prefacing literally every single trailer with World premiere Xbox and windows exclusive console launch that got so freaking annoying and it meant nothing like it was all pure marketing BS whereas Sony was just like here's a game here's a game you know this is already on PC but it's coming to PS4 here's a game here's game they didn't preface with all this stuff so you don't need that language That is bull that was complete bull but the big Market shift here is that they are creating a platform they've created the Xbox platform that involves more than just a console it is a Marketplace for games it is a hub for playing your video games and the new launch or the the new announcement for the original Xbox backwards compatibility plays a role in that in that you buy an Xbox One family product Xbox One Xbox One S Xbox One X uh any of those and you can play pretty much anything from the new Xbox ecosystem to a degree which is kind of neat and it gives a lot more options and like I said this is what Phil Spencer talked about during the interview that very few people saw compared to the E3 conference which reached the mainstream market and this is what I have a problem with because they spent the vast majority well like the big first chunk of their mainstream worldwide broadcast E3 press conference saying hey we've got a new Xbox you should buy this new xbx because it's so great for all these technical specifications that some of them don't even mean anything to me as a Tech head and a hardware guy like I'm just kind of looking at it like that so what why would I care about that and like oh and this is what bugged me if they could just be more transparent in their public things that everyone sees about what they're doing I think it would make sense to a lot of people and I actually went to GameStop yesterday the day before recording this the day after um the Xbox uh press conference and was listening to some of the employees talking and they clearly didn't understand the point of the Xbox One X either they're like it's cool if you have 4K but it's not like it's not the new Xbox but yet they were selling it as the new Xbox which is what confuses people because by all means the move away from buying a new console every few years as an upgrade like the PlayStation 5 the Xbox 720 or whatever like that transition totally cool like moving away from that but no one understands that that's happening and this is a pretty dram atic shift in the console market and you have to be clear about explaining that or people aren't going to understand and then people aren't going to buy your box or they're just going to be even more confused 4K is still pretty Niche like it seems mainstream to US tech people focusing on it but like I don't even care about 4K gaming like I have a 4k monitor I game at 4k on PC for some games but like in terms of console games like that's not a priority for me the fact that we skipped 1080p is still a problem for me because that is still the mainstream hold and that's only just now becoming like truly mainstream adopted is 1080P and we skipped that and this is what frustrates me is we had the previous generation the PS3 and the Xbox 360 promising highdefinition Graphics in yada yada and when we were transitioning from standard definition it seemed amazing or either there were people who didn't care they were like why do I need that I'm still playing on my 2 TV I can't read text from your new consoles anymore I'm going to stick with my PS2 but it seemed great but then later in the years we found out they were never running games in HD like most games were running at like 500p or like really low resolutions and upscaling so they weren't producing like 720p or 1080p Graphics then we get the Xbox One and the PS3 or the PS4 and they're struggling to run games at Native 1080p they're still running at 900p and things like that and dynamic resolutions and now we're supposed to make the jump to 4K and I feel like they never learned from their mistake here and they're still causing that problem which may be circumvented if they actually explain to people that they're no longer releasing like new full pivot consoles all your old games aren't worth anything anymore just buy an upgrade when you feel like it but they haven't explain that so now it seems like they're just promising new targets that they can't hit because the promise of 4K that they're delivering now in a few years won't look like the 4K that we come to expect when 4K is a little more mainstream so Xbox as I said last year but I am more informed in saying so now it's transitioning to a platform where they want you to just be able to buy something xbx and be a part of the family the Xbox One X is supposed to be their premium model it's supposed to be their you know super high-end which they sort of conveyed with the whole Porsche thing but they never really said and never really said in a way that your average gamer would understand they they like they projected it as this is our new Xbox you should buy our new Xbox not if you have money and want the biggest latest greatest things by our premium Xbox they sold it as a new console not as the pre premium model and that is a problem for me and the fact that it is their premium model that it does cost so much and they're not including an Xbox One Elite controller does bother me so again with this they did announce that there is going to be some original Xbox backwards compatibility and I see people cheering everywhere they're like yay I want to play this game I want to play the original Battlefront games I want to play you know this that and the other and most of those games are not going to work so uh and Phil Spencer actually said this during his interview with GameSpot is that it's going to be a much smaller selection than the 360 backwards compatibility and it's only going to be a few games because of Licensing issues either the studios that made some of the original games no longer exist so they can't get the licenses for it or that they're not going to give them the licenses to make it backwards compatibil make it backwards compatible and examples of this will be Battlefront you know why would D why would EA let people go out and buy and play the old battlefronts on the console while they're still trying to sell the new battlefronts it's the same reason Nintendo always goes to ROM sites and gets rid of all of ROMs of their games when they're announcing new ones like all the Pokemon game boy ROMs just got like wiped from the emulator sites because they just announced that Pokemon Gold and Silver are coming to the 3DS Virtual Console same kind of thing they're not going to allow old games that compete with new games to be backwards compatible so everyone being like I have all these Xbox games I can't wait to play on my Xbox one you're not going to be able to they launched with one game title because that's all they're for sure they can get working and that's it now it is a cool feature and the fact that you can system link between X or original Xbox Xbox 360 and Xbox One with like they had the they had the Crimson Skies running on a system link between original Xbox and Xbox one is pretty sweet but the library will be very small and this is at a time where I'm literally just now setting up my OG Xbox and getting that jailbroken and stuff tutorial coming soon I'm just going to keep using that because most of the games aren't going to work and they still haven't introduced Xbox 360 or original Xbox backwards compatibility over to Windows 10 like I want to see that be a part of the play Anywhere program but we'll have to wait a little bit for that now hyperkin did partner with the original Xbox controller manufactur or like designer dude and they're re-releasing the big ass Duke controller with like an OLED screen to display the original Xbox logo and everything as a USB controller for the Xbox One and Windows 10 which is going to be pretty sweet I already sent them a review request and I got to maybe if they have any left um answer but I will be buying one if nothing else um the Duke controller is one that not a lot of people liked because it was so big and kind of heavy but for those of us with bigger hands the separation of the joystick and the actual button placement of the black and white and abxy buttons and the start select buttons made a lot more sense on that controller I am excited especially like I think it's going to be pretty cool so their goal here with the backwards compatibility and with this like range of options for the Xbox is for anyone to jump in at different price points for example the Xbox One S is now $250 that's a great price point for someone to jump into a console Market that's their goal is for you know people who want cheap easy gaming Xbox One S for those who want the premium features that but they didn't sell it as that instead it feels like they sold it as if if you're buying the Xbox One S you're getting a lesser console and that's not that's going to confuse people that's going to make them not interested because they don't want to buy into something that they're going to be outdated by because a lot of people who don't collect or don't want to keep games around and stuff feel burned whenever they have a huge collection of games over like seven years and then have to ditch them all for the new console so I I don't know I am very torn on this announcement and as far as games like they had a lineup of 42 titles discussed or announced at their press conference which they were super proud of but I just sat there laughing because to me it was a bunch of indie games which I I'm appreciative of the indie game Market but they didn't appeal to me most of them like see if these thieves didn't even appeal to me um they had like one first- party game a couple AAA games and that was it that was it and the rest were PC ports or IND games or whatever I didn't feel like the game announcements were worth it and then I just I options are good and the fact that they're taking a position of they want to build a console only when they need to fit a specific Market need for example Xbox One S fits the cheap need Xbox One X fit the 4K niche market is kind of neat but honestly all this did was make sure that I'm comfortable buying a PS4 Pro cuz at some point I'm going to want 4K gaming uh there's some potential 4K capture cards coming out soon that I will have reviews of um that I will need a console to test with as well but I don't have a proper 4K TV or anything like I have my big main monitor supports 4K but over HDMI it only does 4K 30 because it came from the original like line of 4K screens it doesn't have HDMI 2.0 so I don't even have an option to really truly play 4K console gaming like as a resolution in pixel wh I don't care I I don't I I bought an HD CRT TV and I bought a bunch of little professional video monitors that are CRT TVs to play video games on because I feel that is a a more enjoyable experience so the Xbox event sold me on the PS4 Pro which is kind of hilarious but I don't see the Xbox One X as quite as bad as I originally thought but I just hate seeing people so polarized like we're here to play video games not yell at each other over which console you choose and I see the people who just outright completely bash everything the Xbox announced and then I see the people who take the exact opposite approach and are like I can't believe you all are so stupid you can't build a a PC that'll play 4K 60 games consistently for every single game for under $500 and I'm just like you do realize that the Xbox One X won't actually do that right like being skeptical of it is no worse than blindly believing that it's going to be true so I I don't know I I my main point the only like cohesive point I probably have here is that I believe this is potentially the last main stream console generation from now on we're going to have like uh sequential updates that stay backwards compatible that are just targeting like future upgrades and things like that and the main functionality will kind of stay and that we're no longer seeing big like new PlayStation new Xbox new so on generations of at least the Xbox and Playstation moving forward PlayStation may take a different approach though they're not so keen on the backwards compatibility they haven't realized what's going on here uh one of the guys for PlayStation actually said like they said something about how backwards compatibility is so frequently requested but it's rarely ever used and looking at old games why would you want to play them they look bad which is the most embarrassing like comment to have said but it's it makes a point like why spend money on Engineers for a feature that like 2% of people are going to use but if you want to keep people around in your cohesive like gaming environment you need to do that which is I just released a video about why the PS3 was so great because you could play like all the games and then with PS4 they have done nothing like this and it's very disappointing um so I hope they get their act together to catch up I still think that as for I don't know yeah blah blah so uh brain stopped working I got my thoughts out there not a huge cohesive point just that I think it's going to be the last console generation we're going to see continued iterations uh I'm not buying an Xbox One X I paid $500 for my original Xbox and I currently own two physical games for it and the rest are digital from Xbox 360 or the free Xbox Live games my my Xbox Live is expired anyway right now or the Halo 5 that came with it I felt super burned by this purchase which has made me a little biased towards the Xbox platform but any Xbox game worth playing is going to come out on the Windows store or on Steam and I will play it there so I literally have no reason myself to look into the Xbox One X I do realize other people do but I do not so I'm not going to I'm going to buy a PS4 pro at some point when it up when it costs like 350 um but I I do think the Xbox One X still has a purpose and even if it doesn't like I'm still not sold on the Xbox One X really being necessary especially the way it sold it which is very important to me the way they sold it and presented it I don't think it's I don't think it's right but the strengthening of the position that Xbox is taking which I thought they were getting away from by pretending they had a new Xbox they're still on the underside that they're not being clear about they are still maintaining that position of a being a platform instead of a console I support and so these are my thoughts let me know what you think in the comment section down below go ahead and subscribe to lagundo if you haven't already thank you to him for sharing his thoughts I expected this to be a more cohesive video where his video his clip would slip right in and then I just kind of rambled uh let me know if you want to see more videos like this I told the life x b to do more colors and instead they stuck with the blue and purple I'm getting really pissed by the color wave feature of their app I'm very frustrated but let me know what you think about the set all that jazz I'll see you in the next one\n"
