A Foodie's Delight: Our VidCon Adventure
We recently had the pleasure of attending VidCon, a conference for online creators, and what better way to celebrate than with an abundance of delicious food? The main thing that caught our attention was Burgers. We visited In-N-Out Burger, which is a great place that we've been recommended by loads of people. It's fast food, but the burgers were really good.
The rest of the week was spent indulging in Burgers after Burgers after Burgers, but we did manage to find some other food whilst we're out there. One of our favorite discoveries was a road full of food trucks in Santa Monica. We strolled along this street and found Tempur, a truck with everything from Bollywood tempura burritos to Philly cheesesteaks. The best thing about it? They literally had everything! I went for something a little bit more adventurous - the tempura food truck - where I had spider crb with a really tasty kind of pesto Mayo. It was a bit strange, but all good.
My friend Barry, on the other hand, went for a more Vietnamese dish that he didn't actually get what he ordered from. But it was an awesome beef dish! After trying all these savory foods, we also gorged ourselves on some sweet treats. Jamie and I set a challenge to see who could eat the most dessert - and let's just say I came out on top.
My dessert of choice was Le no cheesecake, which I declared was the best cheesecake I've ever had in my life. It was red velvet, and it was just incredible. Barry struggled with it at first, but Jamie managed to use his motivation to push him through (and also because he's always half full rather than half empty!). The cheesecake did take its toll, though - we were both sweating by the end of it.
Despite the sugary rush, we still had time for a coffee. After all that food, we needed a little pick-me-up! As part of our VidCon adventure, we also got to talk about food with some real foodie people, including Lovely Lady Cakes - check out her amazing cakes!
We were also invited to cook with the legends at Feast of Fiction. We met Jimmy and Ashley in their kitchen, where they taught us how to make Turkish delight (yes, it's named after Turkey and NAIA - but don't worry, the "fiction" part is just a clever play on words!). The recipe was surprisingly simple, and we managed to break one of the rules by actually making fictional food that was truly delicious.
We're going to share some of our favorite recipes with you over the coming weeks. On our website, you can find our chicken rollover, which is all about saving money by buying a whole chicken and using each bit for a different recipe. We've also got a skills video where we show you exactly how to hack up and butcher your own chicken (no butchering needed, just watch the video!). Other favorite recipes include crispy duck pancakes, baked seabream, and summer pudding - perfect treats for when the sun finally comes out.
But that's not all. Next week is going to be very special indeed...
