The Art of Rebuilding: A Step-by-Step Guide to Building a Turbocharged Pony Car

As we begin this project, it's clear that our goal is to create a unique and functional vehicle from scratch. We're starting with a pony car chassis, which provides an ideal platform for experimentation and customization. Our first step is to remove the existing engine components and prepare the space for our new turbocharged setup.

We start by removing the oil pan, taking care to disconnect the silicone seals that hold it in place. The old pan is then set aside, making way for our new engine. We move on to the transmission, carefully releasing the gear shift linkage to remove it from the vehicle. This will allow us to work on the drivetrain without any unnecessary constraints.

With the gearshift removed, we begin the process of removing the axle and bearings. The axles are then cleaned and prepared for installation. Next, we turn our attention to the turbocharger, carefully installing a new bearing holder and securing it in place. This is a critical component that requires precision and care to ensure proper function.

As we progress with the build, it becomes clear that our goal is not only to create a functional vehicle but also to optimize its performance. We begin to think about how to improve airflow and cooling, taking note of the existing intercooler piping. The current setup is insufficient for our needs, so we decide to replace it with new piping to ensure optimal performance.

Now that the major components are in place, we turn our attention to fine-tuning the engine. We install a new oil return system, carefully welding it into place. This ensures that the engine receives the necessary lubrication and maintains proper pressure. Next, we add a shift linkage, working to establish a smooth and seamless gear shifting experience.

The final stages of the build involve adding details such as exhaust systems, suspension components, and brakes. We also take care to ensure that all electrical connections are secure and functioning properly. The result is a vehicle that is not only visually appealing but also highly functional.

One notable aspect of our build is the use of Harbor Freight die-grinders for various tasks. While they may not be the most advanced tools, they prove to be useful for creating clean welds and shaping metal components. We take pride in our ability to adapt and make do with what we have on hand.

As we near the end of the project, it becomes clear that there is still much work to be done. The symmetry bed needs to be reinstalled, and the piping system requires some final adjustments. However, with a focus on precision and attention to detail, we are confident in our ability to complete the build.

The turbocharger installation is a critical component of the project, and we take great care to ensure that it is properly secured. We use a new gasket maker to seal any gaps and prevent leaks. The motor oil is carefully selected and applied to ensure optimal performance.

As the final stages of the build approach, we begin to think about the overall aesthetic of the vehicle. We consider adding a number of cosmetic touches, including side skirts and fender flares. These will not only enhance the appearance but also improve airflow and reduce drag.

In the end, our goal is to create a vehicle that is both functional and visually appealing. We take pride in our ability to adapt and overcome challenges, using creative solutions to achieve our objectives. As we near completion of the project, it becomes clear that this turbocharged pony car will be a true head-turner on the road.

The build is taking shape, with every component carefully installed and secured. The focus now turns to fine-tuning the engine, ensuring that it is running smoothly and efficiently. The symmetrical bed is reinstalled, providing a solid foundation for the vehicle. With each passing moment, the project comes closer to completion, and we can't wait to see the finished result.

The use of Harbor Freight tools proves useful in completing various tasks, from die-grinding to welding. These tools may not be the most advanced, but they have proven themselves to be reliable and effective in our hands. We take pride in our ability to adapt and make do with what we have on hand.

As the project nears completion, it becomes clear that there is still much work to be done. The final stages involve adding the finishing touches, including installing new wheels and tires. This will provide a stable foundation for the vehicle, allowing us to take it out for a spin and test its performance.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys so last couple days I've been trying to get some things done on the shopping cart go-kart I got the excellent and the bearings and I've been trying to mock up the little Jack shaft right here to run the chain and I think I got it figured out it's kind of ghetto but this should work just fine I just kind of have the these little pads i welded onto the bearing holders and i cut slots in them so I can adjust it forward and backwards and hopefully these tabs will be nice and solid once they're welded down but that should work just fine I'm right actually right now I'm trying to make the chain for that side so I just got to take this pin out right here and I'll have the little chain for that side and then once I get that on there I'm going to try to make the chain going to the axle once I get the axle welded down which should be very soon so I've been kind of messing with that the last couple days trying to figure things out on that and Payton and Charley has been turbo in the Geo so last time you guys saw this thing it was completely n/a and pretty much it's already almost done so we haven't even really showed any of it but there's a little turbo we got from Killian off of Nissan Juke and they've been working pretty hard and all they got to do now is just get the oil fittings on and his geo will be pretty much ready to go they're just going to run no intercooler going to run like five psi or something like that try not to blow it up 9 psi but lost right how much cruising can handle and you said all of it yeah Charlie trying to get the oil pan off right now it's like caked with that any dough account and then use a gas piston cooking oil change you're starting to go and what do we see up there she needs to see the inside of a pony no there's more stuff the pan off you up the oil pan from all that silicone and no casket yeah everything on this is so tiny the easiest way you're just going to try to find where to put the return it over inside already really I mean I can return right yeah I can't you know I shouldn't be anything in the way of that that's just that get her a oil return welded on there get it back on get the turbo on there yeah little three cylinder yeah my boy all right so I just got both my chains cut out and they are two lengths so everything's fitting pretty nice and these tabs I have down here are not fully welded up so now that I have everything fitted up how I want to I'm going to go ahead and weld these tabs all the way down get my bearing holders all the way welded down Doxil to sit nice and straight it's all even so I pretty much show you guys how I'm going to tighten this chain right here just with these guys I'm going to slide it back and forth and this chain currently has some slack in it and since I can't move the axle or the bearing holders at all there's no adjustment on those I'll just make some sort of tensioner later on just to kind of put some tension on this chain right here and that should work fine but I'm liking how it's all fitting up so far so I'm just going to go ahead and get everything welded up solid and go from there in both hands what's that oh nothing carries that yes under the old bra you know you knew one is located you check that they have a big evening light it is sparkly broke so that's how Harbor Freight died grinders work for a fighter oh the fish go where did you get that mmm two days ago right good thing I got the receipt I'll return that get another one o'clock wait even plugged in yeah alright other thing will bring widget just itself their Harbor free quality right there the bed you normally works pretty well to your gym they're not will be jammed in and I was Charlie has got his oil return on he was going to weld it up it worked just fine always a sample he smashes I got everything pretty much welded up on this car at least on one side all the way well that I stopped to do the backside on some of these brackets right here but pretty much everything is good to go I went ahead and tighten down all the gears in place just making sure everything runs smoothly and it seemed like it should work just fine so later on I might put another bar right through the back here and then make another tab off that bar to like support these little brackets right there because those might flex over time but we'll see how it goes but this thing's coming together all I really need now is some back tires and wheels and could drive it around once I get the motor all wired up but it's getting there got to set up a shift linkage and all that stuff to and still do the whole frame underneath it and redo the front end flip it's definitely getting there and charlie is about to put the turbo on do is Gio for the final time we went ahead and put the gasket maker on letting it set up only the finest motor oil in this race car o'reilly special thank 10 w 40 let's get the turbo on there then him try to have this thing done by tomorrow or what or tonight yeah we so it just helped working personality yeah at least I mean are you guys trying to make boost on it tonight even though I will be awake for that we don't like that because use this for tonight for tonight yeah look at he we still have to redo the symmetry bed we get Pride intercooler piping well just the piping because there is no intercooler yeah it's just that line that one has done well so and we get a week turbos digit oh yeah when I had got the pan on there so good to go and got the oil T right with a oil pressure sending unit check the report disasters for that feeds kind of drum that's perfectly right here so it's like wire tuck I was tucked oil line tucked testing charcoal ash I'm gonna break in the day when the Geo for like less than a couple weeks it's already boosted on Winnie here knock-knock joke okay who's there your motor right number two oh yeah this is going to be a pretty quick thrown together video just keeping you guys updated with what we're doing so I've just been mainly working on this and Charlie and Hayden turbo is a deal so we'll have more to come on this more in depth of what they actually did but that's pretty much it for the night at least we try to make a video for you guys keep you updated with what we're doing so stay tunedwhat's up guys so last couple days I've been trying to get some
