The Lesson From The Will Smith Chris Rock Slap

The Dangers of Violence: A Cautionary Tale

Violence is a natural response to certain situations, and it's often easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment. However, when we resort to physical violence, we open ourselves up to serious consequences that can have long-lasting effects on our lives. One of the most significant risks of violence is that it can escalate quickly, leading to further conflict and potentially even arrest or injury.

Consider a bar fight, for example. If someone throws down at you or bumps into you, do you need to respond with physical force? The answer is no. Violence only serves to worsen the situation and put yourself in harm's way. Instead of reacting impulsively, take a deep breath and try to de-escalate the situation. Remember that words can be just as hurtful as fists, but they can also be used to resolve conflicts peacefully.

The Importance of Free Speech

One of the most important concepts to keep in mind is the importance of free speech. We are all entitled to express ourselves without fear of retribution or violence. However, this doesn't mean that we're entitled to physical responses to someone else's words or actions. The key is to be intelligent and thoughtful about how we respond to others.

For example, consider a comedian like Chris Rock, who has made a career out of pushing boundaries and saying off-color things on stage. Rather than responding with violence, his audience responds with laughter and applause. This is because comedy is a way of using words to poke fun at ourselves and the world around us, rather than trying to hurt or offend others.

The Consequences of Violence

So what are the consequences of reacting violently to someone else's words or actions? For one thing, it can lead to serious injury or even death. But more importantly, it can have a lasting impact on your life that you may not even realize at the time. When we resort to violence, we open ourselves up to the possibility of arrest, lawsuit, and even jail time.

Consider a person who gets into a fight and ends up in court for battery or assault. Suddenly they find themselves facing serious legal consequences and having to deal with the fallout from their actions. This can be devastating, both financially and personally. And it's not just the individual who suffers – their family and loved ones may also be affected.

The Value of Rational Thinking

So what's a better way to respond to someone else's words or actions? How about using rational thinking and de-escalation techniques? For one thing, this can help to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid further conflict. It requires us to think carefully about how we're responding to others and to choose our words wisely.

Consider the example of Will Smith, who recently made headlines for his reaction to a comedian's joke at an awards show. Instead of reacting impulsively with violence or aggression, he chose to walk away from the situation and leave it alone. This is a powerful model for how we can respond to difficult situations in a rational and thoughtful way.

Conclusion

Violence may seem like an easy or tempting response to certain situations, but it's often not worth the risk. Instead of resorting to physical force, take a deep breath and try to de-escalate the situation using words and rational thinking. Remember that free speech is an important concept, but it doesn't mean we're entitled to physical responses to someone else's words or actions.

By choosing to respond in a thoughtful and peaceful way, we can make the world a slightly better place and avoid the serious consequences of violence. So next time you find yourself in a difficult situation, take a moment to think carefully about how you're responding – and choose the path of rational thinking and de-escalation.

everybody rob ferretti here and let's talk about something that's not cars right let's talk about the will smith slap her around the world and why do i care about celebrity gossip well because i did a post on my instagram after it happened and i was like yo everybody thinks that's pretty screwed up right it was pretty messed up what he did and it was like 70 30. the reaction was split which was like like i think we should address this because will smith was a role model is a role model was a role model and him doing this and getting away with it makes it seem okay and you got to realize that when people look up to somebody and then he does something they either emulate him they look and say like well if he could do that that's maybe how i should react and that's a big problem because not everybody has good parenting and that's why i'm now playing the dad for whoever is watching and needs to hear this and i'm going to tell you why what he did was bad and why essentially violence is not ever an excuse for it's not ever a response to anything other than self-defense right and i'll tell you why so i'm going to get this out there just straight away if you haven't seen it go i mean i'll overlay one one whack oh wow i really didn't look into this that much so that i care to debunk whether it's real or not but it does highlight that violence is not something it's not a rational response now there's and people may get offended to this because there's two sides to this people are like oh yes standing up for his wife i think that if if you can't take a joke i don't know what to tell you right like and if you can't take a joke you could very easily go to somebody and say like that wasn't funny here's why or uh you should be on g.i jane because you're a like whatever you want to do you can do that like you you can throw words back at words you can't take words and turn it into violence because that doesn't end well that's something that people do if they're either like uh what's a good word um unstable right like they're crazy like they just don't know how to react so they just throw fists or it shows a lack of intelligence and now i'm not trying to say everybody's got to be brilliant but when you get angry what do you do you start banging on things you start punching things like that when you don't know how to solve a problem other than be violent it is a lack of intelligence i don't think will smith is a dumb person at all i actually think he's a very smart person and he's been doing this for so long he you wait right here you stay there i forgot i had this and i got it look at this this is will smith and this is me maybe it's the opposite this is back when i was 18 and i was working at rivervale country club and he was filming for bagger vance which is a golf movie so we get a call in the morning and this is a little tangent i'll get back to the slap in a minute a little tangent we're there uh i get a call hey will smith is going to come by uh he's looking for he's coming as a single you have anyone he could play with i'm like i almost quit my job when i found out it was actually will smith mikey serious do you think that's like actually will smith sure enough will smith shows up like that's will smith big time actor at the time he's been a big time actor for a long time and this photo the reason it's a photo is because i had to call my mom because i was at work to go out and buy a camera like a little you know little kodak disposable cameras because there was no like cell phone selfies or anything like that so she legitimately bought a camera this was the only picture i took on it i went to walmart or wherever i went to get it developed i developed it and i've had this picture i mean obviously it hasn't been displayed anywhere it's been sitting in a box but i've had this picture for now over 20 years yeah over 12 well over 20 25 years and i've always thought very highly of will smith now here's a story and and i don't want to just uh crap on the guy but he went out he played golf i decided not to quit my job even though it would have been cool story quit my job go play golf uh with will smith we he went with some other random dude it was just a twosome they went out and they played the the entire round of golf came back i like when he was at the turn he was eating a sandwich over there whatever i like i i didn't want to bother him right like i it was i don't get like celebrity star struck or anything like that but at the time like fast will smith like that's cool so i didn't i left him alone uh he came in i cleaned his clubs and i brought him over to the car dude i was like hey do you mind can i can i grab a picture with you because obviously i i have my little uh kodak camera from my mom and uh he's like sure so i had the guy some one of the guys took a picture and uh he told this guy to give me a tip he said he just said like three or something like that like whatever like three bucks gave me 300 like legitimately gave me 300 for walking his golf but cleaning his clubs and walking his golf bag 15 feet 30 feet whatever it was and to me that was like wow that that's like a big play i know he's got a lot of money doesn't mean like he could have given me 20 bucks that would have been awesome 50 bucks awesome 300 was excessive and to this day i remember that like i remember well like whoa what a nice guy that guy's a role model that that is a guy that i want like people to look up to he doesn't curse in his music not that that's a big deal but he seemed like just a really nice uh well-rounded like like homely guy i mean is that is that the right word probably not but he was a good role model and this threw all of that out the window this was like a a is that the real will smith is will smith like crazy because that that's he's either crazy or he stupid and he's not stupid so that means he's crazy and he just played he won something best actor or something like that so he got up and gave a speech and it does click a little bit right it clicks a little bit in that you now have a guy who um played a a very he's a is an actor that gets really into the character right and you have a situation where maybe he still hasn't broken that character so now he's not even himself he's somebody else which really brings up an interesting thing because you had um a couple of people like play really intense roles and then commit suicide uh you had the guy who played the joker john who played the joker heath ledger he killed himself who else killed himself another guy oh uh well jeffrey epstein he's he's not wrong but like let's just go with heath ledger like he played a very intense role and he ends up killing himself so stuff like that i don't know if that he was in a dark place the whole time or he just the character sort of overwhelmed him but that's something that should be addressed when you're filming right after you film you should be in some form of of counseling to make sure that you're able to get back to normal right reacclimate into the world and not come out there and snap over something as simple as as somebody making a joke you don't like about your wife now this could have been handled very differently right will smith could have been like hey chris my wife has a and i don't know if it's a terminal disease whatever it did she everybody justifies the the violence by saying well his wife has a condition that's why she has no hair i didn't know that maybe chris rock didn't know that it's not common knowledge not everybody pays attention to will smith's wife's uh choice to shave her hair because it's a medical condition or not so will smith could have been like hey you know if my wife has this medical condition that's why she has no hair like that's not really so funny you should probably apologize that's something that could have been addressed he could have walked up there and said it to chris separately like hey chris i just want to let you know like she's got a medical condition uh it's actually very offensive to say that and now you bring light to this medical condition now that's all overshadowed by the smack which as i said uncalled for when it's words nothing ends well when somebody throws the first punch and whether it's a slap whether it's a punch and that's why i feel like it's a little too perfectly staged for this because he like slapped him instead of punched him when you do that you now escalate the situation and now maybe it's like oh i showed him but maybe the guy gets knocked out falls over hits the back of his head has a brain bleed now what now now you're going to jail because somebody said something that you didn't like now let's take it to the next stream if if it's a rational if it's okay for somebody to say words to you and then you get violent against them then why can't we go to a neo-nazi rally and just start beating the crap out of them why can't you go to some political thing where somebody has a different opinion of you and just start beating the crap out of them because they said something you don't like that's not a rational response you can't fight words with violence you can use violence to protect yourself right i'm not saying you have to stand there and let somebody beat up on you somebody starts hitting you you can get right in there or if there is an altercation but you going and throwing the first punch is a huge problem whether it's a slap a punch anything that escalates the situation to violence you see that the idiots at the bar you're gonna hit me you're gonna hit me you're gonna hit me gonna hit me like you see that and that that you know what that ends usually well if somebody doesn't throw the first punch everybody leaves and says each other's an and you leave and you go about your way and you wake up in the morning and you start a new day see but here's what the net result is when you get violent you get potentially arrested if somebody gets seriously injured you go to jail it could be a a felony um you could you could affect somebody's life forever that one moment where you decide to get physical with somebody now will play out over the course of several years you may get sued right you want to get sued over like yeah the guy said something that pissed me off i don't even remember what he said anymore tried five years ago i'm in court now and i'm getting sued and i'm trying to fight for my freedom because now they want me to go away for uh battery or or like oh i got to go to counseling i'm now i have a felony uh arrest on my record so now i can't get a job i can't do this i can't do that all because you couldn't keep your damn hands to yourself you can say whatever you want to somebody that says something you don't like right first amendment you can't be like first amendment yeah we can say whatever we want america f yeah but then you say if that guy says something i don't like i gotta go smack him words words everybody's chilling words violence everything goes to you don't want everything to go to you don't want to make one swing that takes five years out of your life you don't get those years back that one moment of rage that you couldn't control yourself is something that's going to stick with you for a long time and yes a bunch of you guys have been in bar fights right you've been in a fight somebody threw down somebody like bumped into you something like there it exists but you don't want to be the guy to first throw the first punch if this is the lesson that i'm going to i would tell my son the same thing i would tell myself the same thing i'm not saying don't fight if you have to but don't fight because somebody said something you don't like that is not the response i don't care if somebody says the worst things possible about your mother about your girlfriend about your wife about your kids right they're entitled to say whatever the hell they want that's the first amendment that's your free speech that you're fighting for the guy that says like free speech unless you say that and then i'm gonna come over there kick your ass it doesn't work both ways so be intelligent about it don't be violent that's my take on the whole matter whether they give up whether they there's no charges pressed i don't know i don't really care um i think you have to be able to take a joke especially in a situation where jokes are being tossed around all night it's part of entertaining a crowd being a presenter and i don't know if you've heard of chris rock before but he's a huge comedian he's been doing this forever saying off color stuff that's his brand right the response is not to go up on stage how many times does chris rock and somebody walk up on stage and smack him because of something he said that's that's a very dangerous precedent it's not how you react in that situation and i want you to think about that if you ever find yourself in a similar situation you can fight words with words you can go up and correct somebody you can say like that's not funny here's why like and now we're talking about uh how chris rock made a very off-color joke and how uh will smith's wife all of a sudden this and that i'm not getting into will smith's open relationship marriage why didn't he punch this guy why didn't he punch that guy i'm saying that you shouldn't have a violent reaction to something somebody says and that is a lesson you should take yourself you should teach your kids and let's make the world a slightly better place by being rational if not intelligent and stable human beings when i say stable not crazy because crazy's bad and never ends well rob ferretti thank you for watching see you tomorrow you\n"
