How to Install a Drain for a Delta Bathtub: A Step-by-Step Guide
In this tutorial, we're going to share how to install a drain for a delta bathtub. We've got a lot of great tips so let's dive in.
First and foremost, it's essential to choose the right drain that fits your whirlpool tub. The drain should fit between 12 inches to 24 inches, depending on the size of your tub. For our project, we installed a 19-inch table, but make sure to check the dimensions before purchasing a new drain.
Before starting the installation process, it's crucial to measure the length of the bottom drain assembly to ensure it fits perfectly in your space. We temporarily cut the assembly to its current length and then set it aside for now. Our overflow will come down from this point, so we need to give ourselves some room to work with.
To make sure our flow fits properly, each table size is different. You'll want to measure carefully to ensure a proper fit. The goal is to have the top drain about 4 inches long, which will provide us with enough space to install the assembly without any issues.
Before proceeding, we need to thread in the slip ring with the tapered edge towards the fitting. This will allow us to slide the assembly into place easily. We won't tighten it all the way yet; that's what we'll do after assembling everything together.
To secure the assembly, we use a little nut that cranks into our bottom drain assembly. Make sure to apply a rubber gasket before proceeding, as this will help prevent any leaks.
Now that we've got our components in place, let's proceed with threading the assembly into the space. We're going for a six-inch clearance here; anything less than that might cause us some problems later on down the line. Once everything is threaded together properly, use your hand-tightened nut to secure the fitting tightly into position before further tightening.
After securing the assembly and making sure there are no leaks or issues, let's take a moment to inspect our work so far. Make any necessary adjustments as needed before moving forward with installation.
To complete the installation process, we apply hybrid sealant that is recommended by Delta for this particular drain model. This will ensure maximum effectiveness in preventing leaks from occurring during use.
Finally, let's place everything together and make sure all connections are secure before proceeding further into setting up our new system fully functional.
The next step after placing all parts inside would involve adding an appropriate sealant where needed to prevent water escaping through the tub while also adjusting your desired height as per requirement.
