Installing a Comic Book Theme on Retro Pie: A Step-by-Step Guide
As we previously covered a theme by TMNT turtle guy, it's no surprise that he has just released a new comic book-themed splash screen. This is one of my favorite themes at the moment, and I'm excited to share with you how to install it on your retro gaming console.
If you enjoy having a bhoot video when you boot up Retro Pie, this is definitely one for you. TMNT turtle guy has released two versions of the theme: 720p and 1080p. To make a download link, simply click on the link provided in the description, or head to the retro pie forum where you can thank TMNT turtle guy for his hard work.
To begin installing the comic book splash screen, first locate the files on your desktop. You should see two files: "comic book splash 720" and "comic book splash 1080p". We will be focusing on the 1080p version in this tutorial. Once you have identified the file, right-click it and select "extract" to transfer it into a folder.
For reference, the folders where we are extracting the files include iOS configs, roms, and splash screens. Make sure that your Raspberry Pi is connected to the same network as your PC before proceeding with the installation process.
To transfer the files to your Raspberry Pi, open up a new file explorer window from the quick access bar at the top of any file explorer within Windows. Type in "backslash backslash retropie all capital" and press Enter. This will prompt you for a username; simply enter "PI" and proceed with connecting to the same network as your PC.
Once connected, open up the splash screens folder and drag the 1080p version of the comic book splash screen into it. To ensure that both 720p and 1080p versions are transferred, we will also extract the 720p file while we're here. This is done to maintain consistency with other Retro Pie themes.
Now that our files have been successfully transferred to our Raspberry Pi, let's proceed to enable the comic book splash screen on our console. To do this, we need to enter the retro pi menu and navigate to the "splash screens" option.
Upon entering the "splash screens" menu, you will see an array of options at the bottom of the page. Choose "number one own extra splash screens". As you can see, both 1080p and 720p versions of our comic book splash screen are available for selection.
Next, we need to enable the 1080p version of the theme. Simply click on "enable" next to the 1080p option, followed by "OK", then "cancel". This will ensure that the comic book splash screen is successfully activated and can be seen when booting up our retro gaming console.
Finally, let's restart our Raspberry Pi so we can witness the new theme in action. To do this, click on "start quit" followed by a brief pause to allow the system to reboot. During this time, you will hear some music playing; this is simply the sound effects used in the tutorial and should be disregarded.
And that's it! With these simple steps, you have successfully installed the comic book splash screen on your Retro Pie console. I want to thank TMNT turtle guy for creating such a great theme, as well as everyone who has watched my previous tutorials on how to install Retro Pie themes.
