How to Make a Convertible Car for Your Dolls: A Step-by-Step Guide
Welcome to Simple Kids Crafts, and I'm excited to share with you today's tutorial on how to make a convertible car using pink and black colors inspired by Barbie's two-seater convertible car. This project is perfect for kids who love dolls and cars, and it can accommodate up to six dolls at a time. Let's get started!
To begin with, we need to use a box that is at least the height of your doll by three times her width. Make sure the depth of the car can accommodate your doll sitting down comfortably. Start by taking out the tabs from the sides of the box and glue them together to form the front of the car. Fill in the empty spot with cardboard and add additional pieces to create the sides of the car, as the original box may not be enough.
Now that we have our base, let's add some styrofoam to make it look longer than it actually is. Glue the styrofoam onto the back of the car to give it a more realistic look. Next, draw two rectangular spaces on top of the box for the front and back seats, leaving about 1 cm of margin on each side. Cut out these spaces and add some cardboard or foam pieces to create the seat structure.
To make the wheels, we need to use two cups, one smaller than the other. Make a hole in the smaller cup, about the size of a wooden dowel that you will be using. Pass the dowel through the hole and leave a small amount of space inside the cup. Apply some glue on the middle of the cup and hold it in place until it dries. Then, put some glue on the rim and attach the second cup to decorate our wheel. We can use foam circles or any other materials we like to create a more realistic look.
Let's add some decorations to our car now! Glue a thin strip of foam around the wheel to make it look more realistic. You can also use plastic gems, fabric, or any other material you like to decorate your car's head and back lights. We can also use plastic gems as side mirrors for an added touch.
Next, let's build the car axle! Attach some wooden dowels on the bottom of both the front and back of the car. Then, attach the bottom foam cover to give our car a more realistic look. Pass a wooden dowel through the straw and assemble the other side of the wheel to create a balanced look. Make long strips of foam and glue them around the wheels to create a uniform look.
Now that we have our wheels, let's add some details to our dashboard! Use one of the leftover pieces of cardboard from the original box and fold it in three to form a triangle. Tape or glue it in place and cover with foam to attach it to the car as the steering wheel. Cut out a small foam rectangle and glue and roll it to create the base of the steering wheel.
To make our seats more comfortable, cut a large bottle in half to create two seats. If you want, you can decorate the seat base with foam or fabric. Attach a safety bell, inside back, seat belt lock, and outside back to each seat for added details. We can also add some cardboard or foam pieces to create a backing for each seat.
Finally, let's make our front visor! Cut a piece of foam into a shape that resembles a visor. Cut the inside leaving about 1 cm of margin on the sides and top. Apply glue onto a piece of plastic from packaging C and attach it to the car lastly. Add some details like rear view mirror, license plates, and anything else you want to make your convertible car complete.
That's it! With these steps, you can create a beautiful and functional convertible car for your dolls. Don't forget to share this tutorial with your friends and family and keep on recycling. Thanks for watching Simple Kids Crafts, and I'll see you in the next video!
