One of the big surprises this year at Mobile World Congress was that Sony was expected to announce a new Z series flagship phone, but instead, they did not make any announcements about a new flagship phone. In fact, some reporters were told by Sony that their Z series was completely done, and it seems that Sony is going for the mid-tier market instead of announcing a high-end flagship device.
Sony has announced a whole series of mid-range devices, which they are calling the Xperia X series. This series consists of three phones: the XA, the EX, and the X Performance. All three phones have a 5-inch screen and similar styling, and they all come in the same four color choices: lime gold, black, white, and rose gold. Additionally, all three phones run on Android 6.0 point 1 and feature a slightly curved glass display that makes the screen feel smoother than normal.
One of the unique features of the XA phone is its Bessel design with sides on the display. This feature is not found on the other two phones in the series. The XA also has an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera on the front and a 13-megapixel camera with hybrid autofocus and object tracking on the back, powered by a 2,300 milliamp battery that Sony claims will last for two days thanks to their software trickery.
The EX phone is similar to the X Performance, but it has a slightly different processor. The X Performance also has a larger battery compared to the XA, which gives it an edge in terms of endurance. However, both phones have the same 13-megapixel wide-angle front-facing camera and 23-megapixel rear-facing camera with hybrid autofocus and predictive tracking.
One of the key aspects of Sony's decision to focus on mid-range devices is their desire to move away from the high-end flagship market. By doing so, they are able to offer a more affordable option for consumers who want a great smartphone without breaking the bank. Additionally, this strategy allows Sony to showcase their aesthetic designers and camera capabilities in a more accessible way.
In terms of pricing, it's difficult to say exactly how much these phones will cost, but based on past trends and industry standards, it's likely that they will be competitively priced compared to other mid-range smartphones on the market. However, without official pricing information from Sony, we can't make any definitive statements about their prices.
Overall, Sony's decision to focus on mid-range devices is a strategic move that allows them to appeal to a wider audience and offer a more affordable option for consumers who want a great smartphone. By doing so, they are able to showcase their camera capabilities, aesthetic designers, and software trickery in a way that will resonate with mid-tier consumers.

new flagship phone but they actually also told some reporters that their z series was done completely instead sony appears to be going for the mid-tier market instead of announcing that flagship phone actually announced a whole series of mid-range devices that don't have top-of-the-line specs but they do have a decent amount of styling the xperia x series as sony is calling them consists of the x a the ex and the X performance all three have a 5-inch screen and similar styling they all come in the same four color choices of lime gold black white and rose gold and all three are running Android 6.0 point 1 they all have a slightly curved glass display not quite galaxy edge territory but a small curve that makes the screen feel a bit smoother than normal wind swiping and they all have a micro SD card slot that doubles as a dual SIM card slot as well the XA the lowest priced device features a 5-inch 720p display running on a MediaTek octa-core processor with two gigs of ram and 16 gigs of internal storage on the front it has an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera and on the back a 13 megapixel camera with hybrid autofocus and object tracking and inside it is being powered by a 2,300 milliamp battery that sony says will last two days thanks to their software trickery but of course we'll have to see that in a review even though the XA is the lowest priced version of the x series of phones it does have one feature that i really like that the other phones don't have and that's it basically has Bessel with sides on the display and i'm not gonna lie it looks pretty cool the other two x series devices the ex and the X performance are a bit more similar to each other with minor differences compared to say the X a they both have the exact same 13 megapixel wide-angle front-facing camera and the same 23 megapixel rear facing camera with hybrid autofocus and a predictive tracking which allows the camera to guess where the subject is going to be once you tap them and start tracking them and then it will adjust focus accordingly they also both have a 1080p 5-inch display three gigs of RAM have quick charging built-in and they both have a fingerprint sensor on the power button the difference between them is basically comes down to a few things right the processor the X performance has a Snapdragon 820 while the X has a Snapdragon 650 the performance also has a slightly larger battery 2700 lambs versus the 26 20 milliamps of the X not a big difference but a difference and the X performance is ip68 certified just like the galaxy s7 and s7 edge which means that it can be submerged under water up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes there's still no pricing announced for any of these devices but I think it's a safe bet there'll be a bit more competitively priced than say vs 7s and the G fives of the world Sony is clearly backing out of the high-end super competitive flagship world and instead focusing on the things that Sony kinda always has done well they have a nice camera with a simple UI and they've given their aesthetic designers a chance to show off what they can do with a phone there you go quick hands-on with a limited time that I had the phones for expect a full review as soon as Tony sends me some phones sony hey um but i have to say that immediately just from using it for the short period time that i did there's something just elegant about them they feel really nice they feel well made and they have a great camera and they just kind of hit a lot of points that i think your mid to your market really does care about but
