Retracting the Blind: A Demonstration of a Common Car Feature

As we step inside this Volvo XC60, one feature that catches our attention is the retractable blind. It's a clever design element that allows for maximum sunlight control while driving. However, as we explore this feature further, we realize that it may not be as straightforward as we thought. Let's take a closer look at how to retract this blind and see what challenges we face in the process.

To demonstrate the retractable blind, we'll need to simulate a sunny day outside the car. As you can see, the sun is shining brightly, making it essential to control the amount of sunlight entering the vehicle. To achieve this, we'll retract the blind to block out some of the harsh rays. However, as we attempt to do so, we're faced with a surprising issue. The blind doesn't seem to be designed for easy retraction; instead, it flops around awkwardly once it's opened. We must carefully maneuver the blind back into its original position, taking care not to scratch or damage any surrounding surfaces.

The Retractable Blind: A Common Car Feature

Retracting a blind in a car is a common feature that many owners take for granted. However, as we've seen today, it's not always as simple as just pressing a button and voilà! The design of this particular blind seems to be flawed, making it difficult to retract smoothly. While some cars may have more advanced features like automated blind systems, others rely on manual operation. It's essential to consider the specific needs of each driver when choosing a car with such a feature.

Interior Design: A Lovely but Damaged Car

As we explore the interior of this Volvo XC60, we're immediately struck by its lovely design and comfortable seating. The seats are upgraded with various features like lumbar support and under-thigh support, making long drives more enjoyable. However, our attention is drawn to a small dent on one of the side panels, courtesy of an accidentally loaded camera during filming. This minor damage can be frustrating, but it's essential to acknowledge that accidents happen.

The Interior Design: Comfortable Seating with Some Quirks

One of the standout features of this car is its comfortable seating. The seats are designed with various adjustments to ensure optimal support and relaxation. However, there's one notable quirk – direct access buttons for adjusting these features are not readily available. Instead, drivers must navigate through menus to make changes. While this may seem minor, it can be a nuisance during long drives or when trying to fine-tune the seat settings.

The Under-Thigh Support: A Useful but Frustrating Feature

The under-thigh support is another feature we've noticed in this car. It's designed to provide additional comfort and support for drivers, especially during extended periods of driving. However, accessing this feature can be a bit of a challenge. The control lever is located on the screen, requiring users to navigate through various menus before adjusting the setting. While this may seem minor, it can be frustrating when trying to customize the seat settings.

Heated Steering Wheel: A Useful Feature for Winter

One feature that's become increasingly important during the winter months is the heated steering wheel. This convenient feature allows drivers to warm up their hands on cold days, making driving more comfortable. The Volvo XC60 offers three different settings for the heated steering wheel, catering to various user preferences.

Heated Steering Wheel: A Practical but Overhyped Feature

While the heated steering wheel is a practical feature, it's also something that's often overlooked by car buyers. Many drivers may view this feature as unnecessary or overhyped. However, for those who live in areas with harsh winters, the ability to warm up their hands while driving can be a lifesaver.

The Auto-Park Feature: A Feature with Limited Use

One feature that's been touted as a game-changer is the auto-park system. This technology allows the car to automatically park itself in tight spaces. However, after four months of ownership, our experience has been limited use. We've never found ourselves relying on this feature, and it seems unnecessary for most drivers.

The Auto-Park Feature: A Useful but Underutilized Feature

While the auto-park system is a useful feature, we've found that it's not as widely used as manufacturers claim. In fact, our experience has been that it's more often left untouched due to its limited practicality. However, for those who live in urban areas with limited parking spaces, this feature may be a lifesaver.

The Around View Camera System: A Game-Changer

One feature that's truly made a difference in our driving experience is the around view camera system. This technology provides a clear and comprehensive view of the car's surroundings, making it easier to park and maneuver in tight spaces. The guidelines are brilliant, allowing us to see curbs, pedestrians, and other obstacles with ease.

The Around View Camera System: A Game-Changer for Parking

The around view camera system has been a revelation when it comes to parking. It's taken the stress out of navigating tight spaces and allowed us to drive with greater confidence. The clear and comprehensive view of our surroundings has made all the difference, making this feature an essential addition to any car.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while the retractable blind in this Volvo XC60 may not be as simple to operate as we thought, it's a common feature that many owners take for granted. However, by understanding its quirks and limitations, drivers can appreciate the convenience it provides. The interior design is lovely, but some features like direct access buttons and limited use of the auto-park system are notable drawbacks. Nonetheless, the around view camera system has been a game-changer in our driving experience, making parking easier and more enjoyable.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis people is my Volvo xc60 now I don't actually own it I've got it on a long-term loan from Volvo UK and I've had it now for around four months so I really know what it's like to live with and so what I want to do now is talk you through some of the features that I think are really cool about it and some that have annoyed me with the Volvo connected app you can actually control the car somewhat from your mobile phone you can do things like see where it's located but it's part which is handy if you've forgotten where you parked it but I love this feature and I've used it to prank people who've borrowed the car so you can just set off the horn and the lights remotely come on Wendy's gonna shot this guy bothered or making a car thief I really like how this cause Bluetooth system is dead reliable so when you jump into the car if your Bluetooth on it should automatically and rather quickly connect to my phone come on connect don't let me down sweet bang did it straightaway now let's say I jumped in without my bluetooth turned on it's gonna get all confused for this main screen it's not a problem look I can just click on that icon and access there we go there's my phone I'm going to connect it so it's dead simple in other cars you have to go through loads of menus and it's a real fast in this one not at all this particular car has the optional massage seeds and I use them a lot now you can control them using the touch screen which isn't that easy when you're driving it asleep but you can also control them using a little button down here which is better apart from one thing that really does mating about it so you look at the screen here and you think that you have to press back on the button to turn the seat on but actually you have to press forward on the button down here so it's the reverse of what your eyes are seeing which is so confusing and even after four months with the car I haven't learned to do it right at the first attempt always takes me to goes I'd say that the system isn't very intuitive it's nothing to do with me being an idiot yeah denial it's a powerful emotion one of the problems with these big touchscreens is that they get covered in greasy fingerprints which look awful when the screen is off you can really notice them can't you that's why Volvo gives you a handy little cleaning cloth look and it does work very well okay you wouldn't know I had such dirty fingers with you being Swedish Volvo's thought about how to make this car nice and easy to use in winter weather so let's say you like to drive with your gloves on it's not really a problem because all the controls are nice and chunky they're easy to operate even when you're wearing gloves even those on the steering wheel they're not too feeling that they are in some other cars and then there's a touchscreen now if you just have normal gloves you can't operate the touchscreen on your phone you have those special capacitive gloves don't you but look I can use the touchscreen in this Volvo look now I love the panoramic glass sunroof on this card is an option you should definitely have if you're buying the car but there are a few things that annoy me about it one is a switch to operate it so let's say I just want to retract the blind you have to pull it forward in a very smooth manner because if you tilt the switch ever so slightly what happens is this you end up opening natural sunroof so then your faffing around trying to no try to close the sunroof and then you end up closing the blind so you have to do dead carefully to just operate the blind and you can do it then but it's a faff when you're driving now another issue that I have with it is this look I'll show you just retract it all the way now let's say it's a little bit too sunny obviously not the case today but in summer you may want to retract the blind so you do that and look how long it takes so yeah please don't click out the video I want to demonstrate this in real time yeah that's it done finally the like over on this car really does my head in so let's say you want to retract it like a normal leg cover it doesn't go back like it lifts up which is kind of handy but let's say you do want to retract it there's no rawness for it so it just flops around like that and one put it back it's quite a actually do it fast I read normally I'm messing around with it like that come on get in right there finally but I did do that first that is the first time I have ever done that is typical isn't it was filming it wondershare out knowing it wasn't anything first time I really loved the interior design of this car and it's metal trim the only problem is is that I've damaged it when I say I it was actually the camera the guy filming this and every is its bugling there so you're fighting it mate what it did the accidentally load a camera onto it when we're filming and he's made this little divot in the metal it's just there and I can see it from where I'm sitting and there's no way to get rid of it it just ah does my head in it's only a small thing but the seats in this xc60 are lovely they're just super comfortable they're actually upgraded so they have lots of functionality to them now as well as the usual kind of recline and up-down forwards and backwards which is very easy to control you can also alter the side bolsters the lumbar support and this as well the the under thigh support the only problem is is that you don't have direct access buttons for them here there is this control lever here but but yeah actually have to go through various menus to control the thing you want and it's there we go so I finally got to the the under thigh support and I can do it it's great it's a great feature but it's just seems to be one step too many having to operate it all by looking at the screen it's really primed this screen I'm trying to use it for everything if you get this car with internet connectivity you have live traffic updates for the satellite navigation system and it'll show you where there's jams on your route however I don't think it's all that trustworthy because I've seen it with the road ahead saying that it's red you know full of traffic and I've driven up it totally ignoring it and found out that there's no traffic at all I just only it's anywhere near as good as using Waze one of the features I've really been appreciating this winter is the heated steering wheel and I like the fact you have three different settings for it as well so you can get it just as you want as part of an option pack this car comes with auto part facility so it'll actually automatically parked the car steer it into a parking space and even steer it out of one as well however in four months I have not used that function once in fact I'm not going to bother at all I won't even demonstrate it because I just think they largely pointless for most people what is very useful though is this around view camera system so it's very clear really good the guidelines are brilliant and you can just move from camera to camera as well to get a close-up as well so you can see the curb in fact I have used this so much that it's the reason I'm sure that I have not curbed this car once it not in four months which is very rare for me cuz I'm always parking on the curb and damaging alloy wheels another thing that I like about it is that you can just be driving along and what's common in London is you get lots of these with restrictors all I have to do is swipe this hit the camera button and there we go I can see all around me really useful one of the apps I use a lot is Spotify and it's easy to access from the home screen but if you want to listen to a specific song it's a bit of a faff you have to press a library and then try and hit this little magnifying glass search icon there before you can enter a song name which is impossible to do when you're driving they enjoyed
