4K PS2 Emulation Test - 9600K + EVGA RTX 2080

Testing 4K PS2 Emulation on My New Gaming PC

I'm back here again, and I recently built a new gaming PC that I'll be doing a video on it very shortly in the next couple of days. Before I start working on that video, I wanted to test out some PS2 games in 4K. My last rig just wasn't cut it with most of these games in 4K, so I figured I'd test it on my new one.

The specs of my new gaming PC are as follows: a Ryzen 9 6900X processor clocked at 4.5 GHz, 16 gigabytes of DDR4 RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce RT X 2080. This was not specifically built for emulation, but we can still emulate on it. I have window screen scaling set at 250 percent, but before I start the games, I will turn to 100 percent to see how they look.

I'm using the GeForce Experience to capture my screen at 4K, and this is all running on a 42-inch LG 4K display. Before we get started with 4K, I wanted to do a little comparison just by showing some screenshots of native PS2 resolution games like Bloody Roar 4. The native resolution of Bloody Roar 4 looks amazing in 4K.

I'm not going to do this with every game, but I did want to test a few games that I still like to play today. One of those games is Tekken 5. Unfortunately, when you try to scale that up to 4K, you get black lines. Another one of my favorite franchises of all time is Ratchet and Clank. This is Ratchet and Clank "Up Your Arsenal" in 4K, and it looks absolutely amazing. The maximum nanotech level has increased.

Gran Turismo is another game that I could hardly go over 720P with my last rig. If you look at the very top of the screen, we're using close to 70 percent of this RT X 2080 GPU. In the past, I have done a video on PCSX2 using GPU power, and I found out that GPUs do matter with these newer emulators.

Shadow of the Colossus is just one of those games that I've always had trouble with. Now, lower resolutions have been no issue for me, but even on this rig, I'm still struggling to hit 60 FPS at 4K, and we're almost at a hundred percent GPU usage on the RT X 2080.

Finally, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is a totally different game at 4K. It looks really good, so that's pretty much it for this video guys. Those were just a few games that I wanted to test out real quick. There are a lot of other games that I do want to mess around with, but I need to find the time to do it.

If you want to see another video like this, let me know in the comments below. I don't know how well these go over, but I think 4K PS2 emulation is awesome. However, it does take some power to do if you can hit that "like button." Subscribe to my channel and like always thanks for watching.
