The Bucket List Car: A Transatlantic Tale of Passion and Performance
I'm excited to share with you my latest adventure, which has been two years in the making. I first mentioned this car, the Porsche Carrera GT from LC Performance, on a video when I was filming with Sport Quattro. It was our last video together, and at that time, there was a possibility that I would get to drive this bucket list car. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, we didn't see each other for over a year and a half. The long summer stretched on, but before it ended, I finally managed to find time to come and drive this incredible machine.
I'm joined today by Corby, who has been keeping all the equipment in order and showing me the best roads to drive. Here we are, standing in front of the Carrera GT from LC Performance, a true marvel of engineering. This car is a thing of beauty, and I can feel my excitement building up as I approach it. The value of this car at the moment is around 800,000 euros, with some models going for over 1 million euros depending on the condition and mileage. However, Corby reminds me to take care with the clutch, as it's a bit tricky to handle.
When I put the car in first gear, I don't need to give any gas whatsoever; I can simply lift off the clutch, and the car starts pulling straight away. This is made possible by the unique design of the clutch system, which makes it very easy to use. However, Corby warns me that the clutches on this car are relatively expensive, with a replacement cost of around 30,000 euros. I'm making sure to be careful today, as I don't want to end up with an expensive bill for a faulty clutch.
As I get behind the wheel, I notice the upright and vertical Formula One-style pedals in front of me. This is where the magic happens, and I can feel the power of this car at my fingertips. The gearbox throw is quite long, considering it's a race car, and it revs up to 8,000 rpm. When I release the clutch with minimal throttle input, the sound of the screaming V10 engine takes over. It's an exhilarating experience that makes me feel like I'm in a real racing car.
As I start driving, Corby reminds me that this car was originally produced as a race car and has been legalized for road use. The gear knob feels luxurious under my hands, and the revs are ticking away at 8,000 rpm. It's hard to believe how fast I'm going, given that there's no speedometer in sight. All I can see is the speed limiter, which indicates that the car has reached its maximum speed of 6,600 rpm.
The Porsche seats may not be my favorite, but they're certainly comfortable and supportive. The bucket seats are a testament to the engineering expertise of the Porsche team, even if they were already perfected back in the age of this car. I take a moment to appreciate the design of the car, which has been beautifully captured by some photos. However, I'm not here to admire the car's looks; I'm here to experience its raw power and performance.
As we come to a stop, I notice that the car has an interesting history. It was imported from the US and has been in Germany for around six years now. LC Performance has taken good care of it, having just completed a service that included replacing the clutch and doing some other necessary work. The total cost of this service was 45,000 euros, which is a significant investment for any car owner.
As I get back into the car, Corby reminds me that owning a car like this also comes with a price tag beyond the initial purchase price. Maintenance costs can be high, and owners need to budget accordingly. This is not just about buying a car; it's about investing in a piece of history and a driving experience that's hard to find elsewhere.
With the clutch pedal down, I'm ready to take on the road. The drive is short but exhilarating, and I feel like I've ticked off another item from my bucket list. As I put the car back into its parking spot, Corby turns to me and says, "That was an interesting move by that cyclist!" It seems that my fun for the day has come to an end, but I'm still grinning from ear to ear.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enbucket list car today carrera gt you guys showing me back in germany with lce performance where well there's a very good reason why i am here today i did actually mention this car on a video when i was filming what was i filming last with you sport quattro that was the last video i filmed with lc performance and i did mention then there might be a possibility to drive my bucket list car and since i filmed that we actually didn't see each other did we since i don't know a year and a half because well oh i don't need to explain why and then it was raining and floods and yeah it was a long year and a half but before the summer ends which is not far away i've managed to find time to come and drive this because if i went through another summer of not being able to test drive this i think i would quite literally lose my mind corby back with me again in the rs4 kind of you're like my pace car yeah keeping all of the equipment and um show me the nicest roads to drive and here it is the carrera gt from lc performance what a thing of beauty so so crazy excited about driving this what's the value of this at the moment what yeah good good 800 000 euros that is in switzerland they seem to be going for a million or above of course depending on the condition and how many kilometers also corby is tommy you know to take much care with the clutch as i found out driving here now the clutch so when you're in first gear you don't need to give any gas whatsoever you can just literally lift off the clutch and it's pulling straight away so if you decide to do a mistake like slipping the clutch a lot the clutches on this go very very easy and as i've been warned they are a good 30 000 to replace so i'm going to be taking great care today with my feet on the clutch because yeah i don't fancy a 30 000 euro bill for a clutch on a bit of an hour of road which is making me a little bit nervous you've got these upright vertical formula one style pedals in front of you at the end the crow gt is and was produced as a race car and somehow porsche just legalized some for the road the throw on the gearbox is actually quite long considering you know it's a race car revs up to 8 000 goes into the red at 9000 rpm so now i'm just pulling off releasing the clutch with not even touching the throttle i love this beautiful gear knob 8 000 rpm listen to that no idea how fast i'm going i can't see the speeder at the moment right in front of you you've just got the rev limiter and oh there's the speedo about one centimeter big on the bottom left hand corner yeah the speed was not in their mind when they built this car they didn't care they knew it was going to be fast most importantly you just need to look at the revs porsche seats aren't my favorite in the new gt3s their bucket seats aren't just perfection and bearing in mind the age of this car they were already making perfect seats back then just took some pictures not the best photo location around here sadly but yeah did what i could head back to lc performance handbrake is down here on the left side which you actually need to operate with your right hand because the left hand doesn't fit down a short but amazing drive today so this actually was an import from the us it's been in germany for around six years now lc performance are open to selling it it's not actually up for sale but you know everything has its price this car is definitely in a lot of people's dream garages including my own they've actually just had its service so they had to put a new clutch on when they bought it and do a service total cost of that was 45 000 euros so when you buy one of these or you know any car like this you don't just need enough money to buy one you also need enough just to maintain it i mean imagine getting a 45 000 euro bill through the door from servicing your car it's really hard to put into words but i'm so impressed how this car feels oh yes steering amazing screaming v10 that's a real race car sound in here having to shout quite a lot at higher revs so raw oh this cyclist is okay that was uh that was an interesting move from the cyclist just about to go past him and he decided to swing across the whole road so yeah he's not letting me pass i guess that's my fun for the day in the prior gt tick off the list very happy you\n"
