What's Up YouTube: A Comparison of iPad 1 and iPad 2 Speakers
As one of the most frequently asked questions I've received since getting my iPad 2, I thought it would be a great idea to do a quick demo of the speaker system on each device. This will allow you guys to judge for yourself how they compare. In this article, I'll share my thoughts and impressions after conducting a comparison test.
Before we begin, I want to note that since I'm recording the audio with a camera, it's then being processed through YouTube and finally coming through your speakers. Unfortunately, this means you won't get a full impression of how the speakers perform on each device. However, I hope this demo will give you an idea of what to expect.
To start, I've increased the volume to maximum on both devices, so we can compare them accurately. Let's begin with my iPad 1. As you can see from the video, it's playing one of my YouTube videos. Now, let's move on to my iPad 2. Again, I've increased the volume to maximum, and it's also playing the same video.
As you can hear, the sound quality is slightly different between the two devices. The iPad 2 sounds better than the iPad 1, with a slight increase in volume and clarity. This could be due to various reasons, such as improved speaker design or enhanced audio processing capabilities. However, it's essential to note that there's no dramatic difference between the two.
One of the reasons people are asking about this issue is because of an iFixit teardown revealing that the iPad 2 speakers appear to be smaller than those in the iPad 1. Although they look smaller, it doesn't necessarily mean they're worse. The other question revolves around how the speaker fires. In the iPad 1, the sound appears to fire towards the side, whereas in the iPad 2, it seems to fire more towards the back.
You might expect that this angle difference would result in a significant change in sound quality. However, I don't really experience this difference between the two devices. Even when listening to a movie face-on, they still sound about the same despite the angle difference. This suggests that the speaker design on both devices has been optimized for optimal performance.
In conclusion, my comparison test reveals that while the iPad 2 sounds better than the iPad 1 in certain aspects, there's no dramatic difference between the two. The smaller speakers on the iPad 2 might be a concern for some users, but it doesn't necessarily translate to worse sound quality. I hope this demo has provided you with an idea of how the speakers perform on each device. Thank you for watching!
