What is Going On Everyone: A Review of Nomad's Wireless Charging Stand
I'm Andrew from Apple Insider, and I'm excited to share with you my experience with Nomad's new wireless charging stand. As a huge fan of other Nomad products that we've reviewed, I instantly had to try out this wireless charger that is perfect for travel. Unlike most other wireless charging options, this stand works not only flat but also standing, giving you a couple of different options.
The charging stand also packs up into a nice flat package, making it easy to throw it in your gear bag on the way out the door. This feature is especially convenient for travelers who need to be prepared for any situation. The stand supports the fastest 7.5 watts that iPhones can accept, which means you'll get fast and efficient charging on the go. It also works with both the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, as well as the iPhone 10.
One of the things I love about Nomad's products is their willingness to think outside the box and challenge traditional design norms. In this case, they've opted for a non-traditional rectangular charging pad instead of the usual round shape. This design choice not only looks great but also provides more versatility and functionality than a standard round charger.
Inside the packaging, you'll find the rectangular charging pad itself, as well as a power cable. The power cable is one of the few things that I found to be slightly annoying about this product. It's a proprietary cable that uses a barrel connector, which can make it harder to replace if you need to. Additionally, it's a bit on the larger side once connected, but the small cable that comes with it makes up for this.
One of my favorite features of this charging stand is its flexibility. Whether you want to use it in a stand or lying flat, the aluminum plate tucks away neatly, providing an option to adjust your usage depending on your needs. This feature is especially convenient when using the charger on a desk, as you can easily switch between standing and lying down.
The top of the charging pad is covered in a nice Horine leather that looks great and provides a comfortable surface to place your device on. I've noticed that this design choice has become a staple of Nomad's products, and for good reason – it adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to their chargers.
However, there are a few small things that I wish were different about this product. One thing that caught my attention was the little sticker on the charging pad that says "please place your device in this position." While I understand the need for specific placement, I found it a bit annoying when I tried to align my phone perfectly and realized that I had to move it up slightly instead. This is a small thing, but it's something that I've noticed every time I use this charger.
Finally, I wish Nomad would include some kind of cable management system with their products. They do offer silicone cable ties, which are great, but they're not included with the charging stand. As someone who always seems to have a tangled mess of cables on the go, I think it would be convenient if these were included.
Despite these small quibbles, I absolutely love this charging stand. It charges fast and efficiently, looks great, and provides plenty of versatility and flexibility. If you're in the market for a new wireless charger that can keep up with your active lifestyle, I highly recommend checking out Nomad's wireless charging stand. charger that I can take with me on the go and as a huge fan of the other Nomad products that we've reviewed I instantly had to try out their new wireless charging stand that is perfect for travel unlike most other wireless charging you seen it works not only flat but standing as well give you a couple different options the charging stand also packs up into a nice flat package so you can throw it in your gear bag on the way out the door even better it supports the fastest 7.5 wants while I was charging that the iPhones can accept both the iPhone 8 8 plus and the iPhone 10 Nomad also shuns the round footprint that we see with a lot of pad chargers out there Mophie Belkin they all have like the same design round and it's a little bit boring no man opted to go a different way with a really nice leather top solid base and aluminum stand inside the box you're gonna find the rectangular charging pad itself as well as a power cable now a couple things about that power cable it is actually one of the more and things about this charger one of the few things that actually bothers me and it's because it's a proprietary cable it's not just a standard off-the-shelf USB or even a custom designed USB one uses a barrel connector which this can make it a little bit harder to replace if you've ever needed to do so plus it is a little bit on the large side once connected though you are good to go it is a rather small cable so it does have any low profile which doesn't really get in the way on the back you're gonna find it's aluminium plate that kind of is tucked in here that's really handy because whether you want to in a stand or lying down flat you have that option I just love how it tucks away on the back so if you don't need it it's there but if you do want put out you can and it just really depends on the circumstance which one you want on my desk I kind of prefer to be lying flat just kind of up a little bit higher but when I'm in my bed I'd prefer it on a stand so they can actually see the phone from being in the bed especially with face ID it becomes kind of necessary to actually have your phone facing you to be able to unlock it without using your annoyingly long passphrase the foot of that actual metal plate both on the back where it reaches the table and under your phone both have little silicone pads so it keeps it from your phone and the scene itself moving around too much the top is covered in a really nice Horine leather which we've seen on pretty much all of nomads other products the second thing that I found a little bit aresome was kind of identified on this little sticker here and that basically says that you have to place your phone in a specific spot when it's lying down and there's found that odd when I have my phone lying down I went to perfectly align it on the charger but instead because of the coil placement you actually have to move it up ever so slightly so here won't work but here it will and it just bothered me a little bit that your phone has to be offset and you can't just line it up with the charger itself it is a small thing but it's something I've definitely noticed every time I set my phone down another thing that I would have liked to see is since this is kind of marketed as a travel charger and it works great that way why isn't there no way to manage the cable no man has some pretty awesome silicone cable ties on a lot of their actual cables and this is supposed to be with you on the road why can you not just throw one of those on this cable and wrap it up that way instead you have to ball it up and hold on to it any way you can as you toss it in your bag I don't mean to sound harsh because I absolutely love this charger it charges it really fast as fast as you can on an iPhone and it looks pretty amazing but it just seems those small attention to detail things that I really would like to see improved on maybe a future version of this charger if you want to pick one
