Synology NAS Network Cam & Surveillance Station

Setting Up Surveillance Station on Synology NAS: A Step-by-Step Guide

In this tutorial, we will walk you through the process of setting up Surveillance Station on a Synology NAS. We will be using the DS 412 plus unit for this demo, but the steps are applicable to any model of Synology NAS.

First, let's start with the basics. To begin, log in to your Synology NAS using the DSM 4 version. Once you're logged in, navigate to the Package Center and install the Surveillance Station if you haven't already done so. This will give you access to the main Surveillance Station interface.

Next, we need to set up our camera. In this case, we'll be using a D-Link IP web camera model DCS930L, which is compatible with Synology NAS. Before we proceed, make sure to check your Synology NAS documentation to find out how many IP cameras are supported by your unit.

Now that we have our camera, let's start the setup process. We'll need to use the "Add Camera" option in Surveillance Station and follow the on-screen instructions. I recommend using the complete setup option for a more comprehensive experience. When prompted, give your camera a name, such as "Dink Cam", and enter the IP address of the camera.

As we proceed with the setup process, you'll be asked to select the brand and model of the camera. In this case, we'll choose D-Link and confirm that the selected model is indeed the DCS930L. Next, you'll need to enter a password for your camera, which should match the one you used earlier.

Once you've entered the password, click on the "Test Camera" option to verify that everything is working correctly. If the video feed appears on your screen, congratulations! You've successfully connected to your camera.

Now that we have our camera set up, let's move on to configuring the settings for our camera. We'll start with the default settings and make any necessary adjustments as needed. In this case, I'm choosing to stick with the default settings, but you may need to adjust these based on your specific requirements.

As we progress through the setup process, you'll notice that our camera supports 640x480 resolution in addition to 320x240. We'll choose to use the latter for our initial configuration.

Next, we'll configure further options and hit the "Finish" button. This will complete the setup process for our camera.

One final step is to set up motion detection for your camera. In this case, I'm going to add a new area, named "The Door", where the camera will start recording if someone enters that specific area. To do this, click on the "Advanced" option and follow the on-screen instructions.

Now that we've completed the setup process, let's test our motion detection system in action. Simply walk into the area you added earlier, and see if the camera starts recording. If everything is working correctly, you should see a new recording in your Surveillance Station timeline.

It's worth noting that some cameras support audio recording, but this feature was not enabled on our D-Link IP web camera model. You can check with Synology to find out how many cameras are supported by your unit and what features they offer.

In conclusion, setting up Surveillance Station on a Synology NAS is a straightforward process that requires minimal technical expertise. By following these steps, you should be able to set up a functional surveillance system for your home or office.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi there this is ranit from tech.com and in this video I'm going to show you the surveillance station functionality on a Synology Nas and for that I'm going to use this dlink IP web camera this is a wireless camera the model name is dcs930l and this is compatible with the sonology nas so what we going to do is we're going to install this uh camera using the Ser station and this is the C actual camera itself and now I'm going to in Show you how to install the surance station and access this IP camera again do note that uh just check with your senology Nas documentation uh to figure out how many IP cameras are supported with your unit and now we're going to set up the surveillance station and set up that dlink uh IP camera and the first thing we do is log into our Synology Nas I'm using the DS 412 plus unit for this demo but this uh will be applicable for any model of syy Nas and we're using the DSM 4 version and the first thing you do is you need to install the surance station if you haven't installed it already just go to the packet Center and install the same and now I'm going to go to the surveillance station and here we need to use this option and we're going to add a camera and we get this camera setup Wizard and I suggest that you use the complete setup option and here we going to give the name I'll name it as dink Cam and you need to give the IP address of the camera I have set it to this address and from here we need to select the brand for us it's the dlink and also select the correct model name as is the D Cs 930l and I'm going to select the same and also as this is IP camera you need to enter the password what you had said and you hit this test camera option and if everything is working correctly you should get the video feed and this is the feed that I'm getting that's correct this is showing my AV room and I hit the next button and here you can configure the options I'm going to leave it at the default uh this camera also supports 640x 480 but I'm going to keep it to just uh 320x 240 and here we can set up further options and I'm going to just hit next and here I'm going to select all the options and I just want to record only when there is motion detection I don't not want to record continuously just waste of space and I'm going to hit next and we go to hit finish and now our camera is actually set up there's just one more thing that you need to set up just go to the Advance option and here we need to uh set up the motion detection and we hit the detection area and we just hit this add option and now I'm going to add a area where in this area if somebody something changes it will start recording and I'm going to name it the door so if anybody comes through the door it is going to start recording and I just hit the save and close this now motion detection has been set up and now I'm just going to walk in that area and it should uh start recording it it should have recorded uh because I just went into that motion detected area and if I go to the timeline and we just need to select our camera area this is the same and select the date that's today's date and today's time and you see if you notice we have some recordings over here and if I just scroll here you should see the I went into this area and the camera picked it up so that's how you do motion detection on the same one little con that I have is that though this dealing camera that I'm using supports even audio recording but the audio was not recorded in this feed also you need to check out with Synology on how many cameras are supported with your unit by default you only get one free license with every syy Nas so if you want to add multiple cameras you need to purchase additional licenses from senology by default the surveillance station can support multiple cameras and multiple recordings so if you want to do complete surveillance of your small office or home you can easily do this with the Synology
