The Challenges of Finding Work-Life Balance as a Parent
Hey guys, so I've had a crazy week. I shot a commercial and then we're putting this condo on the market, which means cleaning for strangers to walk through has to be my personal nightmare. So, I didn't quite finish my tips video, but I did a great opportunity to do a quick mini vlog on work-life balance. As someone who is passionate about filmmaking and finding ways to be a great mom, I thought it was important to talk about this because you guys see the side of me when I'm with Presley, and we're having so much fun and more relaxed.
But, let's get real β the reality of it all is on busy weeks like these, I know I'm calling in way more nanny hours than I want to. The transitions are terrible for some reason, and even when I'm with her, I've just been tired and distracted. Admittedly, counting down the minutes or hours until nap time or bedtime isn't a good feeling. I know Presley's not gonna love me as much when she grows up, and everyone says they're only young for a very short period of time.
On the flipside, work is going great, and I'm super excited and thankful for that. So, I just want to ask you guys what works for you, what balance have you found? If you haven't had kids yet, what are you planning on doing when it comes to working or not working? It's really great to start thinking about this now.
For me, this morning, taking her to class has been a game-changer. I could unplug and not be constantly glued to my phone. In one of these classes, we were actually discussing moments of feeling guilty, and one mom kind of broke down when she transitioned her child's crib into a toddler bed. It was the same feeling for me this week β hearing that darn Bruno Mars song, which is about something completely different, but for some reason, the lyrics just spoke to me, and I just started crying.
Songs like "Ooh Presley's in the backseat wondering why she's a crazy mother" really hit home. My sister came and visited us yesterday, and she was the best aunt ever. So, I asked her to record a little bit of the song not so much to make me feel even more guilty but just as a reminder to try to make the hours that I have with her really count. Equality is key here.
I'd love to hear your tips β what works for you?
