**The Art of IKEA: Hacks and Tips for Creating a Luxurious Space**
When it comes to decorating our homes, we often look to high-end furniture stores and designers for inspiration. However, IKEA is often misunderstood as a cluttered and chaotic option. But what if I told you that with a little creativity, your IKEA pieces can be transformed into a luxurious space that rivals any high-end design? In this article, we'll explore some hacks and tips on how to use IKEA pieces to create a bespoke look that's perfect for those who want to add a touch of luxury to their home.
**The Problem with IKEA Kitchens**
Ikea kitchens are often criticized for being cluttered and chaotic. Their Vad hom kitchen island with the rack is particularly problematic, as it's meant to be hung from the ceiling, creating a mess of cables and accessories that can quickly become overwhelming. But what if you're not ready to give up on IKEA altogether? The good news is that there are plenty of alternatives available. For example, IKEA offers a range of kitchen islands without the rack, which can be customized with your own storage solutions. Additionally, many IKEA kitchens have gorgeous cabinets and countertops made in Germany, which are some of the best quality available.
**The Power of Customization**
One of the biggest mistakes people make when decorating their homes is sticking to pre-made sets and designs. But what if you could create a bespoke look that's all your own? With a little creativity, you can take IKEA pieces and turn them into something truly unique. For example, instead of using an IKEA bookcase as is, consider adding some decorative pillows or curtains to give it a more luxurious feel. Or, use IKEA rugs to add a pop of color and texture to your room. The key is to be picky and deliberate in your decorating choices.
**A Word on Luxurious Decor**
When it comes to creating a luxurious space, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, it's all about quality over quantity. Instead of cluttering your home with too many decorative items, focus on a smaller selection of high-quality pieces that make a statement. Second, don't be afraid to invest in some real luxury items – like a plush area rug or a statement piece of artwork. And finally, remember that it's okay to take your time and work on your decorating project over several months. After all, as someone who has lived in Denmark for many years, I can tell you that patience is key when it comes to creating a beautiful home.
**The IKEA Playlist**

**The Bottom Line**
In conclusion, with a little creativity and some careful planning, your IKEA pieces can be transformed into a luxurious space that rivals any high-end design. Whether you're looking to customize your furniture or add some decorative flair to your room, remember to be picky and deliberate in your decorating choices. And don't be afraid to invest in some real luxury items – after all, it's the little things that can make all the difference. So go ahead, give IKEA another try – you might just find that it's more than meets the eye.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enyou're telling us that you are struggling to create a luxurious and modern home with your Ikea finds the reason you're struggling with that is cuz you're making a few Decor mistakes let's chat about what those are and let's fix them today biggest mistake that you're making is using Ikea as your inspiration because if you've looked at their pictures or been in their showroom lately I don't really like what they're doing I really I don't know if they hired a new stylist I do not understand the direction that Ikea is going I think it is cluttered it is chaotic and it feels claustrophobic I really don't like their photography the way they're arranging the furniture I think it just feels it feels really stressful to me it does not feel like a place that I want to live they've taken the idea of hominess and wanting it to feel approachable I feel like they just took it way too far I feel like they there's no room left for any feeling of luxury to me a luxurious space feels a little bit paired back there's a sophistication to it there's a warmth and of course a little bit of comfort thrown in there but it's still overall feels very chic and beautiful and has a feeling of something really special I don't feel like there I don't feel like their images reflect that style at all but don't get discouraged because their pieces can still be used used in a way that is very luxurious and very beautiful so the first thing you need to do the biggest design mistake you're making is watching their images and trying to replicate them if you try to replicate the IKEA style you're not going to end up with a very luxurious feeling home you might actually end up with one that might make you a little bit nervous I would feel nervous living in their rooms it's too messy it's too chaotic so let's talk about some of the things that they are doing and maybe you might be doing as well that are creating a chaotic feeling space and one that does not feel relaxing or luxurious one of the biggest things they're doing is they're not creating closed storage I think closed storage is the best way to be able to hide all your junk in plain sight so using any of the Open Storage open baskets uh side tables or nightstands that don't have drawers that is really it's really hard to hide your stuff and the thing is that even if you're a minimalist we all have stuff we all have things and it's really hard to not end up with them all over the place I I don't want to see my hobbies I don't want to see like my lotion sitting out on my nightstand I want to be able to put it away so I think utilizing closed storage is a really big deal when it comes to Ikea they have a lot of really great pieces that can help you hide your junk uh the malm nightstand one of my favorites they've got the Vic Hummer for the bedroom both have drawers both look really cool very very easily can be used in a very modern and luxurious way when it comes to your dining room or your living spaces why not go with something like the bestow you can customize that to whatever color you have in your space you could go for the high gloss you could go for the wood you could go for black you could go for brown they've got Endless Options it's fully custom optimizable to your space and I've owned those myself and they are amazing so I would definitely look at the bestow because you can stash all of your junks if you still got all your DVDs CDs I don't know in my sideboard I tend to put uh dinner wear I put plac mats and things like I don't want to see that so I think utilizing closed storage is a huge way of creating a more luxurious Space by reducing the Clutter I'm so excited to take just a moment and think video sponsor for today which is Bloom mean you guys have heard me talking about their face Pro for quite some time now and I am happy to report that I have seen such amazing results I've seen a reduction in Fine Lines I've seen a tightness to my skin I love how it's thinned out my jawline I also really love the Deep puffing so I you've seen me use it and I know it's got other settings but I really like the heat one because it just feels so good on your face and so I've been using this for about uh three times a week for about 5 minutes each time and it's just incredible it's absolutely incredible I love the way it feels on my skin you can literally just see it pulling back like this you can also use it on your forehead I definitely have a lot of lines there because use expression a lot but it really is just it's so calming it's so therapeutic it feels so good to use and I just really struggle with puffiness I don't get enough sleep I know that about myself uh but you know this just makes me feel like you can see the difference you can actually see the difference and I've just noticed since using this it's been probably about has it been about 6 months guys uh yeah I've just really notice a difference and I even packed this with me when we were traveling like I don't want to go with without it it's just that good so I think that you will absolutely love this let me know if you're one of the 100 people so far that's gotten this we've uh chatted about them a couple times so by now a few of you probably have it and you can tell us down in the comments how amazing yours has been for you but they keep selling out so I thought I'd offer just another 100 people their offer you can get $70 off so normally it's $150 you're going to get $70 off and a free ebook the best part is that if you're not happy the results you don't have to pay that's huge I mean that is an amazing guarantee and uh I you know what I honestly think that you'll absolutely love it so if you want to be able to get that discount go to blooming. comom Valentina it's going to get you the $70 off and that free ebook so I think you're going to absolutely love it it makes a really good gift to yourself and to others if you just want this amazing pampering moment you are going to get it with the blooming SP Pro I think you'll love it I'll leave all the details listed Down Below in the show notes thank you again to Blooming for being our video sponsor so another big mistake is that Ikea is putting way too much on the walls it's just too much you might find yourself making the same exact mistake you see all the collage walls you get sucked into it you're like oh I can do that I can replicate that look I think collage walls are just way too busy I think going more paired back and upsizing your art will always give you a more luxurious feel it'll make your space feel a lot bigger it'll make your space feel a lot calmer why do you want to have all these little things all over your wall it's too chaotic and chaos is not a word that most of us at least would use to refer to luxury luxury is all about being relaxed and pampered and when you've got too much going on in the space it's just visually noisy so instead of buying lots of little frames look at their larger pieces you could frame some of your own artwork in them you could also look at some of their mirrors instead of going for a little bitty mirror you can go for the big mirrors if you've got a long hallway instead of creating you know 10,000 little things along it you could maybe put a set of three mirrors on a wall the tall ones right or an entryway would be a great place for that you could do the same thing in your bedroom if you have a big wall you could do three of their larger floor length mirrors and put a bench underneath it these are doable ideas that you can use Ikea pieces for one of the biggest mistakes that people make in Ikea does this over and over and actually makes it look like it's something you should be doing is that they store literally bins and boxes and they store them all in plain sight so maybe they do that for the website to be able to sell the under bed storage for example or the boxes and things but they put the bins out in plain sight so not only just the stuff right like we already talked about like closed storage quite a bit but I think actually having those storage bins of any kind it just looks terrible I wouldn't use any of those out I used to do that and after a while I realized that actually looks really cheap so yes the cloth storage is a big deal but I definitely wouldn't buy any of their underbed storage bags and leave those where you could see them another mistake that Ikea makes is that they I feel like they try too hard to put too many pops of color into a room I don't think you have to have a pop of color I know that that is extremely controversial with people who are obsessed with color and if you're one of those people great have your pop of color but if you're wanting to create a really Chic sophisticated modern and maybe even little cool kind of space this obsession with needing a pop of color can actually really just make your space feel a little bit cheap going for a bright green in a room it feels childish if you want a space that feels Sophisticated You you don't need a bright pop of yellow or hot pink or green you can go for more subtle colors and they sell them at Ikea that's the crazy thing about all of this is that they sell beautiful pillows in muted colors they sell chairs in muted colors you can have a space that feels Chic and sophisticated but if you're obsessed with these bright pops of color I think you're going to end up with a space that feels fun maybe it feels cheerful but it's not not necessarily going to feel sophisticated and elegant oh oh this is actually like a really good one and this is so doable one of the I was going to say is a pet peeve it is kind of a pet peeve I'm just going to be honest with you guys I feel like we can be honest with each other okay I feel like Ika over stuffs their bookcases I I almost can't look at it just it just bothers me in the deepest places of my soul I I don't like an overstuffed bookcase in fact I don't like it at all I think it just looks again noticing a trend here cluttered chaotic there's no calm in that and what I noticed when I was looking through the images on their site and I'm thinking back to when I was in their showroom recently they're just putting stuff on there that isn't even necessary it's just like decorative stuff I don't think you need all that stuff maybe it's the way of selling a lot more to you I don't know I don't know what their marketing team's motivation is but for me I don't think you need that many things sitting on your bookcases I don't think you need to keep every book you've ever read you can pass those forward so somebody else can read them I think that I just think it's too much I think it looks terrible to have a billion little things shoved up on your bookcases I have tried I try I really do make some effort okay to try to do that lived in look on the book case I can't leave it because it just does not feel Chic or sophisticated does it feel lived in yes but I don't really want it to look like that you have to think through what you want and if you want a luxurious space that feels Chic and elegant you do not want your bookcases literally stuffed to the brim with just a bunch of stuff app back you don't even have to buy anything just take everything out and put a few less things in there you can see how even in here right I lay these books down I lay the book down on the horizontal rather than standing them up this is an easy solution if youve got some Decor books already take the dust jackets off of them if they don't mat your match your color palette and turn them on their side and lay them on lay them flat and then you can buy Beau accessories from Ikea to go with this they've got some beautiful vases they've got quite a few actually I really like the tall ones that they have if you've got a little height in your bookcase if you um you if you don't you can also go with some of the lower ones they've got them in glass they've got them oh my favorite is like the little fluted one uh they've got a lot you could also put a sculptural piece it's another mistake to only buy from Ikea so when you look at the images you're going to see mostly Ikea items sometimes they'll add in a few things but for you you don't have to buy everything from Ikea that's kind of the fun of being able to shop anywhere and everywhere and that's where your personality really comes in so for me I like having beautiful sculptural pieces I've shown you guys some of the sculptural pieces that I have I like to use pieces like this I like uh sculptural bowls you can kind of see that here you can do them on a much smaller scale when you're working with your bookcases but adding in your personality onto that bookcase going bigger with the accessories and doing fewer items on them is just going to give you it it's instant calm instant sophistication and instant Beauty normally I would say that it's a mistake to leave the sofa bear and so in some of the images on Ikea you see the sofa with no pillows and then you see some of the other ones where they have like a million things like there's like 20 pillows and it looks like someone has literally actually been living on the sofa and I'm like ew that ew I I don't know what the response they're hoping to get but it kind of grosses me out I'm like ew that looks terrible I don't want my house to look like that that I I don't like that so if you like a look where it looks like someone has been uh literally living on the sofa or living in the bed then you know maybe you want to do the Ikea look but for me I don't like it I don't like it at all I think that you can buy beautiful I have been talking about the SAA pillows for years they come in all different colors they're so sophisticated and beautiful you can buy even the inserts from Ikea go with the down ones so that you can have them forever I still have mine from like 15 at least at least 15 years ago maybe even longer they last forever okay upsize one so that you have plenty of stuffing for your pillows but whatever you do I think going for a lived in look is chaotic it's messy and it's not going to be relaxing at least it wouldn't be for me you can let me know if you feel differently but I don't like it I think it just I don't like we get up I have my entire family trained you get up and you fluff the the cushion you put it back the way that it was like you don't leave that and call it Decor that no that's not how we're going to live because when you're not sitting on it I still have to walk past that I have to look at it I do not want to see just mess everywhere it's such an easy fix all you have to do is stand up and fluff the pillow maybe give it a karate chop if you like that look look or just leave it flat but definitely you can do all of this with what you have from Ikea those Ledges the picture Ledges they are so outdated it kind of goes back to what we were talking about before which was go bigger on the art right those picture Ledges they just look so cluttered they look so messy you end up with like a lot of little things sitting on them a lot of times that's how they're showing them and photos with like extra accessories plus the art I would not do those picture Ledges at all I just wouldn't buy them I don't think they I don't think they have a very luxurious feel to them at all go back to what we talked about before instead up size your art you could even do some of their framed art in a repeating pattern you guys have seen me do that in my own house over and over where you buy even the same piece right you can even do the same piece if don't have art that's big enough to fill your wall just do several of them in a repeating pattern right this is achievable and it's less expensive than you think it's going to be I just I think they really look like something from like the '90s and if you look at any luxurious home you're not going to find them let's talk for a minute about Ikea kitchens because just like with everything else we've been talking about today Ikea seems to be taking clutter to a whole different level I think that their vad hom kitchen island with the rack is horrifying I first of all it's going to be like right well for me it'll be above my eye level but for some of you it's going to be at eye level it it's literally just a stopping point cuz once you start hanging things off of this I'm like oh my gosh the hard oh I can't deal with this I mean you're like oh it's only $5.99 for the island I can put bar stools around I can hang all kinds of stuff from it no don't do that don't do that don't buy that there are other options you can do one without the rack if you need an island I've looked at their Islands they have cute ones like but the one they didn't have wheels on them so unless you're planning on keeping it right where it is then you might need to add Wheels to it which is okay right we talked about doing the hacks customizing our pieces we want them to feel bespoke right I always love that word bespoke you can say that I didn't do an Ikea Hack I did a bespoke this is bespoke Ikea we're going to have to remember that one okay so you can choose but I think that that is an atrocity because literally all all these pieces are just creating chaos it would make me nervous like oh look my scissors are out ah I don't need to think about my scissors right now this is tooo much clutter and I wouldn't even say that I'm a minimalist I wouldn't I like to have things but I do not store them in my face I it that they've got these islands they've got all the wall organization things and literally all your stuff is just sitting out everywhere I I do not understand the obsession with putting everything out in the open that is what a drawer is for I just think it's a huge no no and I just wouldn't do any of those so look at their kitchens because the truth is here's the truth Ikea just like with the bookcases they've got gorgeous bookcases that Billy they keep coming out with more and more options that look amazing look at the pillows the sella the pillows the curtains they're so good rug section gorgeous kitchens they have really nice kitchens something a lot of people don't know is that the inserts the the insides the inners of the cabinets and the hinges are made in Germany and they're some of the best quality it is available to any kitchen cabinet maker they might be better even than what any of your local people are going to offer you especially for that price the kitchen front the cabinet fronts are maybe not as good a quality always you kind of have to be picky right picky picky picky you're allowed to be picky it's your home and your money I don't know about you but it doesn't just fall off the tree at my house I have to work for it so if I'm working for my money I'm going picky about how I spend it so I wouldn't spend it on certain things at Ikea but that does not mean that this is not achievable because it is so I hope today I have dispelled a few of the misconceptions that we tend to have about Ikea and simultaneously offered you a few tips and tricks on how you can use Ika pieces to create a more luxurious space let me know if you have enjoyed this video which one of these tips and tricks if you're mad at me it's okay you can just tell me down below if you love these ideas let me know if they strike a cord or seem dissonant with you let me know down in the comments don't forget that I have the most extensive and amazing Ikea playlist because I don't know if it's because we lived in Denmark for all those years or what it is but for me I just love ik I know all my regular subscribers are going to be so disappointed if I don't say that at least once in this video but I really do love it it's not just the hot dogs and the cinnamon rolls although those are really good but it's just it really is good good stuff and I don't want us to miss out when we're trying to create a more more luxurious space so thank you so much for joining me I will see you in the next one until then bye-byeyou're telling us that you are them today biggest mistake that you're making is using Ikea as your inspiration because if you've looked at their pictures or been in their showroom lately I don't really like what they're doing I palette and turn them on their side and lay them on lay them flat and then you can buy Beau accessories from Ikea to go with this they've got some beautiful vases they've got quite a few actually I really like the tall ones that they have if you've got a little height in your bookcase if you um you if you don't you can also go with some of the lower ones they've got them in glass they've got them oh my favorite is like the little fluted one uh they've got a lot you could also put a sculptural piece it's another mistake to only buy from Ikea so when you look at the images you're going to see mostly Ikea items sometimes they'll add in a few things but for you you don't have to buy everything from Ikea that's kind of the fun of being able to shop anywhere and everywhere and that's where your personality really comes in so for me I like having beautiful sculptural pieces I've shown you guys some of the sculptural pieces that I have I like to use pieces like this I like uh sculptural bowls you can kind of see that here you can do them on a much smaller scale when you're working with your bookcases but adding in your personality onto that bookcase going bigger with the accessories and doing fewer items on them is just going to give you it it's instant calm instant sophistication and instant Beauty normally I would say that it's a mistake to leave the sofa bear and so in some of the images on Ikea you see the sofa with no pillows and then you see some of the other ones where they have like a million things like there's like 20 pillows and it looks like someone has literally actually been living on the sofa and I'm like ew that ew I I don't know what the response they're hoping to get but it kind of grosses me out I'm like ew that looks terrible I don't want my house to look like that that I I don't like that so if you like a look where it looks like someone has been uh literally living on the sofa or living in the bed then you know maybe you want to do the Ikea look but for me I don't like it I don't like it at all I think that you can buy beautiful I have been talking about the SAA pillows for years they come in all different colors they're so sophisticated and beautiful you can buy even the inserts from Ikea go with the down ones so that you can have them forever I still have mine from like 15 at least at least 15 years ago maybe even longer they last forever okay upsize one so that you have plenty of stuffing for your pillows but whatever you do I think going for a lived in look is chaotic it's messy and it's not going to be relaxing at least it wouldn't be for me you can let me know if you feel differently but I don't like it I think it just I don't like we get up I have my entire family trained you get up and you fluff the the cushion you put it back the way that it was like you don't leave that and call it Decor that no that's not how we're going to live because when you're not sitting on it I still have to walk past that I have to look at it I do not want to see just mess everywhere it's such an easy fix all you have to do is stand up and fluff the pillow maybe give it a karate chop if you like that look look or just leave it flat but definitely you can do all of this with what you have from Ikea those Ledges the picture Ledges they are so outdated it kind of goes back to what we were talking about before which was go bigger on the art right those picture Ledges they just look so cluttered they look so messy you end up with like a lot of little things sitting on them a lot of times that's how they're showing them and photos with like extra accessories plus the art I would not do those picture Ledges at all I just wouldn't buy them I don't think they I don't think they have a very luxurious feel to them at all go back to what we talked about before instead up size your art you could even do some of their framed art in a repeating pattern you guys have seen me do that in my own house over and over where you buy even the same piece right you can even do the same piece if don't have art that's big enough to fill your wall just do several of them in a repeating pattern right this is achievable and it's less expensive than you think it's going to be I just I think they really look like something from like the '90s and if you look at any luxurious home you're not going to find them let's talk for a minute about Ikea kitchens because just like with everything else we've been talking about today Ikea seems to be taking clutter to a whole different level I think that their vad hom kitchen island with the rack is horrifying I first of all it's going to be like right well for me it'll be above my eye level but for some of you it's going to be at eye level it it's literally just a stopping point cuz once you start hanging things off of this I'm like oh my gosh the hard oh I can't deal with this I mean you're like oh it's only $5.99 for the island I can put bar stools around I can hang all kinds of stuff from it no don't do that don't do that don't buy that there are other options you can do one without the rack if you need an island I've looked at their Islands they have cute ones like but the one they didn't have wheels on them so unless you're planning on keeping it right where it is then you might need to add Wheels to it which is okay right we talked about doing the hacks customizing our pieces we want them to feel bespoke right I always love that word bespoke you can say that I didn't do an Ikea Hack I did a bespoke this is bespoke Ikea we're going to have to remember that one okay so you can choose but I think that that is an atrocity because literally all all these pieces are just creating chaos it would make me nervous like oh look my scissors are out ah I don't need to think about my scissors right now this is tooo much clutter and I wouldn't even say that I'm a minimalist I wouldn't I like to have things but I do not store them in my face I it that they've got these islands they've got all the wall organization things and literally all your stuff is just sitting out everywhere I I do not understand the obsession with putting everything out in the open that is what a drawer is for I just think it's a huge no no and I just wouldn't do any of those so look at their kitchens because the truth is here's the truth Ikea just like with the bookcases they've got gorgeous bookcases that Billy they keep coming out with more and more options that look amazing look at the pillows the sella the pillows the curtains they're so good rug section gorgeous kitchens they have really nice kitchens something a lot of people don't know is that the inserts the the insides the inners of the cabinets and the hinges are made in Germany and they're some of the best quality it is available to any kitchen cabinet maker they might be better even than what any of your local people are going to offer you especially for that price the kitchen front the cabinet fronts are maybe not as good a quality always you kind of have to be picky right picky picky picky you're allowed to be picky it's your home and your money I don't know about you but it doesn't just fall off the tree at my house I have to work for it so if I'm working for my money I'm going picky about how I spend it so I wouldn't spend it on certain things at Ikea but that does not mean that this is not achievable because it is so I hope today I have dispelled a few of the misconceptions that we tend to have about Ikea and simultaneously offered you a few tips and tricks on how you can use Ika pieces to create a more luxurious space let me know if you have enjoyed this video which one of these tips and tricks if you're mad at me it's okay you can just tell me down below if you love these ideas let me know if they strike a cord or seem dissonant with you let me know down in the comments don't forget that I have the most extensive and amazing Ikea playlist because I don't know if it's because we lived in Denmark for all those years or what it is but for me I just love ik I know all my regular subscribers are going to be so disappointed if I don't say that at least once in this video but I really do love it it's not just the hot dogs and the cinnamon rolls although those are really good but it's just it really is good good stuff and I don't want us to miss out when we're trying to create a more more luxurious space so thank you so much for joining me I will see you in the next one until then bye-bye\n"
