"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwith Apple's massive marketing machine many are aware of the apple pencil Pro but few likely know its full potential I'm going to walk you through all the new smart stylus has to offer as well as some handy tips and tricks apple pencil Pro is the newest stylus from Apple and its support is limited to the newest tablets so far including the 2024 iPad Air and 2024 iPad Pros it's not compatible with any earlier tablets and this original Apple pencil at lightning won't work on the new iPad Pros or the new iPad air pairing apple pencil Pro is effortless just place it on the landcape side of your iPad on its dedicated charging spot it's denoted by the small off-color oval which is where the wireless charging signal is able to pass through the first time you place it you'll see a popup that walks you through some of the biggest features each subsequent time you place the apple pencil a smaller modal will that will give you the current battery life any other time that you'd like to check the battery life you can do so by looking at the battery widget as I mentioned you charge the apple pencil Pro by placing it on the side of the iPad as long as it's there it'll be charging you know assuming your iPad is charged of course using the apple pencil Pro is the same as any other stylist just point with the tip of the pencil and tap to select you may notice that before you tap you'll also see this hover effect this is a preview of where you'll tap this hover effect looks different in different places sometimes you'll see this faint Circle other times you'll see icons enlarged or buttons highlight Apple even took things further by showing these faint Shadows mimicking the onscreen tool you've selected here's the pen and it changes when I swap to the highlighter it's such a cool little touch you can use apple pencil Pro from anywhere if your iPad is off you can just tap the screen and it'll automatically wake up and create a new note for you to start writing or drawing if you take a screenshot you can tap on the image in the lower corner and annotate on it in a swipe up from the lower right hand corner will initiate quick note as you use apple pencil Pro you'll notice that at times it'll vibrate Apple added Precision haptic feedback directly into the end of the stylus giving you that physical sensation when something happens on screen for example as you snap an image to Center you'll feel it it's very cool another new feature found in apple pencil Pro is a squeeze gesture apply gentle pressure and it will reveal a new on-screen pallet tool and it will be confirmed by some haptics this is how you can easily switch tools undo or redo an action or change colors Apple has its own palette but different apps may present it differently procreate for example has an entirely different set of tools to choose from this squeeze gesture can be customized too you could use it to swap to the Eraser automatically or even run a shortcut this one's my favorite because you can do wild things like setting my good night scene in my house and turning off all the lights locking the door and closing the blinds The Squeeze gesture differs from the double tap gesture by which you could switch your writing instruments by simply tapping the side of the apple pencil twice in quick succession just like squeeze though it can be modified in settings going between things like your tool and the last eraser showing the color palette ink attributes or allowing it only when hover is an effect apple pencil Pro includes tilt support As you move the stylus up and down it'll change the angle of your writing instrument for example writing with the tip of a pencil or shading with a side there's also new barrel roll support so you can rotate the orientation of the tool too this will be previewed on screen thanks to hover support it's great for pens and brushes especially over time Apple has continued to add new features to the Apple pencils via iPad OS for example when you draw in notes your rough shapes can be converted to real shapes and any text that you scribble can be converted into type notes I love how when you write something it can also be copied if you scribble down a name or a phone number you can highlight it and copy it just like type text another popular use is signing contracts if you get a contract or a document VIA mail or files or you can even scan one in you can easily add your signature a constant problem with apple pencil has been keeping track of it apple pencil Pro solves that by by integrating into the find my app similar to an air tag you can see apple pencil Pro in the find my app and you can use your iPad to find it if nearby there's no speaker in the apple pencil Pro though so it'll only get you so far unfortunately it lacks some features here such as Left Behind alerts maybe in a future software update one last note on the apple pencil it does have swappable tips you just unscrew the nib and you can replace it should you ever get it damaged or it wears down there are a lot of apps that have been optimized for apple pencil Pro here are just a few of my favorites procreate is an incredibly popular drawing app that Apple even featured during its presentation it's been popular for a while so this one may not come as a surprise astad studio is another great app it turns your iPad into a companion drawing tablet for your Mac Apple's free form is also fantastic this is great for storyboarding notetaking presentations or general brainstorming I don't use it all
