The 2011 Scion tC Coupe: A Sporty Two-Door with Unparalleled Customization Options

The 2011 Scion tC Coupe is part of Toyota's Generation Y brand, alongside the rest of the Scion lineup. It only has one head-turning trim, but comes equipped with a long list of customizing and personalizing accessories. This allows each owner to give their TC its own unique personality, from spoilers to wheels to exhaust systems to body treatment. The combination that best fits you is all directly from the factory and under warranty.

The 2011 Scion tC Coupe has been updated with a more angular styling, giving it an aggressive look that fits the youthful brand that Scion is going after. Let's take a closer look at the cabin of this sporty two-door five-passenger hatchback Coupe. The panoramic sunroof is a really cool feature that comes standard on all TCS models for optional equipment check out the Alpine audio system and of course you got to have the nav system. You might want to spring for the alloy pedals and custom shift knob.

Unfortunately, the TC can use some additional overhauling on the inside. The plastics are rock hard, and if you opt for the six-speed manual, there's not a lot of elbow room to make shifts. Although I like the overall design, there is one issue because the rear hatch needs solid support in the rear corners. These wide seat pillars will limit visibility in the rear, which could be a problem while trying to park.

But enough about parking for a sec; let's see how this TC does going down the road. The new TC has a 2.5 L inline 4 and delivers 180 horsepower - that's 19 more horsepower than last year's 2.4 L. You can really feel it when you merge onto the highway, as the TC is a front-wheel drive Coupe. And with the new six-speed manual or the six-speed automatic, this six gear really helps with gas mileage.

The TC now gets 23 miles to the gallon in the city and 31 on the freeway - that's more than 2 miles per gallon more than last year's model. These numbers are solid because the TC is going up against the Honda Civic kiaforte and Ford Focus. The TC buyer is not your average compact car buyer, but there is a market for small Imports that can be customized.

Add the fact that you can get all those custom items done in the factory and that's a huge reason for the Scion brand success. Their competitive pricing helps too - with a six-speed manual starting at $18, 27, and a six-speed automatic starting at $19, 27. But if you get option happy, you can spend up to $30,000.

So there may be better values in the small car market, but only the TC and maybe the mini offer such high levels of customization. If you're looking for economic transportation that's more than just a cookie-cutter compact car with style all on its own, that will turn heads - then the TC is for you.
