Mercedes AMG GT S vs Porsche 911 Turbo _ evo DEADLY RIVALS

The Mercedes AMG GT is a Brilliant Sports Car

For those who have been missing out on the opportunity to experience the thrill of driving a high-performance sports car, I am thrilled to report that this is one such vehicle. The moment you get behind the wheel of this magnificent machine, you'll know why it's considered a masterpiece of engineering. It's like a big hug for your senses - the low, deep voice of the engine, the precision of the steering, and the incredible feeling of being connected to the road.

One of the standout features of the AMG GT is its absence of Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). Unlike some other high-performance sports cars that rely on PDCC to limit their lean angle, the AMG GT doesn't need it. Instead, it's a more open and free-flowing driving experience. The lack of PDCC also means that you get to feel the car's weight shift as you accelerate out of corners, which is incredibly rewarding. The GT truly feels like a proper sports car, with incredible agility and responsiveness.

But what really sets the AMG GT apart from its competitors is its engine. We've got a little bit less power than our friend from Weissach, but it feels Mega! This engine is so strong, it pulls so hard all the way to the red line. And the throttle response? Sharp as a razor blade. The gearbox is also a major highlight - we're talking twin-clutch paddle-shift gearbox, here. When you pull that paddle, upshift happens instantly - almost like magic.

Of course, one of the main concerns when it comes to high-performance sports cars is traction. How well will this car hook up and go? Well, I can tell you that it doesn't quite have the same unbreakable traction as our friend from Weissach, but it's certainly not lacking in the department either. You can feed in all the power, R from second gear onwards, and it just hooks up and goes. The front axle is incredibly strong, and the rear end has a ton of grip. This car is so poised and stable that you feel like you're on rails.

Let's take a look at how this car performs on track. As soon as I got behind the wheel, I knew I was in for a treat. The way it handles through quick right-handers, the way it feels as I navigate those long straight sections... it's just incredible. This is not a pointless squirt device - it really does move around quite nicely, and you can use tiny little weight transfers to change the balance of the car. It's like a dance between you and the machine.

And then there's the matter of driver experience. I must say that this is one of those cars where you feel perfectly at home from the very start. The ergonomics are spot on - I'm sat so low in the chassis, with this long bonnet reaching out way out in front of me. The steering wheel is right in my chest, and I've got this firm supportive bucket seat that's just so comfortable. It's like it was designed specifically for you.

But how does it compare to its rival? Well, we put both cars side by side on the track - a Porsche 911 Turbo, of course! And let me tell you, it was a battle for the ages. The Porsche may have four-wheel drive traction, but that Advantage paid off in a big way away from the low-speed corners, where its extra grip allowed it to accelerate harder and maintain more speed.

The Porsche also had an edge through the tight twisty complex, particularly on the Corkscrew, where it pulled out another 3/10 of a second. However, when it came to the high-speed sections, such as Church and the final straight, the AMG GT truly shone. It carried more speed through church than its rival, reaching a top speed of 141mph on the back straight compared to the Porsche's 136mph.

But in the end, it was all about the traction Advantage of the Porsche. The 911 recorded a time of 1 minute 15.2 seconds, just 0.8 seconds quicker than our car. And although it didn't quite match the Mercedes' lap times on every corner, its extra grip made up for it when it mattered most.

The Mercedes AMG GT is a brilliant sports car and it's quick around a circuit. The Porsche 911 Turbo, though, is even quicker. But that's not to say that this car isn't worth getting behind the wheel of - because I can tell you, it's an absolute blast!
