The Balloon Zip Cannon!

Creating a Balloon Zip Cannon: A Fun and Inexpensive Project

Today's Show is brought to you by Harry's, stay tuned for a special New Year's offer after the project build today we're going to make a balloon zip Cannon now this is an inexpensive project cost you about five bucks and it's easy to make and a lot of fun so let's get started we'll be using some halfin PVC pipe and some fittings which you can get at your hardware store the standard half-in endcap will be used for the handle along with an elbow and a/2 in t fitting you have a couple of different options to hold the balloon in place you can use a small hose clamp if you have one or an ordinary zip tie

The first step in creating our balloon zip Cannon is to cut three pieces of PVC pipe. We're going to measure out a 12-in piece and make a mark, then another Mark 3 in down from that and another Mark 2 in down from that. This will give us the length we need for our barrel. Next, we'll hold the PVC in place with some tape or clips and get out our hacksaw or other means of cutting the PVC pipe to make our cuts so we'll end up with a 12-in piece, a 3-in piece, and a 2in piece when cutting PVC you always have burs at the end and it's an easy way to just take your finger and run it around the hole and clean out those Burrs

Now that we have our three pieces of PVC pipe cut, we need to make a modification to one of them. We're going to use a round file that my dad had lying around, which is actually pretty old but works great. We'll only be doing this to one end of the 12-in piece, and we're going to file inside at an angle. The point here is to reduce the thickness of the wall on one end so you want to file at an angle and when you're done it should look like this and this compares to the other side you can see how much thinner the wall is on the one end of our Barrel

Once we've made our modification, it's time to put our balloon zip Cannon together. We'll attach the T fitting to the other end not the end that we filed then on the bottom end of the T we'll attach the 3-in piece of PVC followed by the angle and then we'll attach the 2-in PVC and then the end cap. As you can see, I'm not gluing anything in place because it's really going to stay together without having to do that. You can hit it with a rubber mallet just to make sure everything's nice and tight but you don't necessarily have to glue it

Now that our balloon zip Cannon is finished, we need to figure out what kind of ammo we'll use. We're going to use some dry chickpeas or garbonzo beans which are the perfect size and they're hard so I'll take one and drop it down the barrel into the balloon pinch the end of the balloon pull back and let it fly. It's hard to tell in this shot how far the chick Bean went but check this out it really packs a punch

ammo will be stored in an ordinary balloon now you want to have at least a 10in diameter balloon for this and we'll take the balloon and we'll slip it over the filed end of our balloon zip Cannon I decided to just use the zip tie to secure the balloon in place because the balloon may break down the road and then I'll just replace the zip tie when I replace the balloon okay our balloon zip Cannon
