The McLaren 720S GT3-X: A Track Day Car Like No Other

The name "GT3" is often associated with a set of rules and regulations that limit the power output of racing cars. However, McLaren's latest creation, the 720S GT3-X, takes this concept to a whole new level. This car is McLaren's idea of what a GT3 race car would be like if it was unleashed unshackled, allowed to go as fast as it possibly could. To achieve this, the FIA-sanctioned power-restricted 500 horsepower four-liter twin turbocharged V8 has been ditched in favor of a more powerful 710 brake horsepower unit with 740 bhp.

The major difference between the GT3-X and other track day cars is that it's designed to be used on racing circuits, not just any public road. The carbon tub has had to be modified to accept a new roll cage, which allows for the installation of a passenger seat. This means that the GT3-X can only be raced in approved events or used by its owners on designated racing tracks. As a result, it's been designed as a track day car, a very exclusive and fast track day car, and one that you can take a friend along or more likely an instructor.

The McLaren 720S GT3-X was put to the test on the Navarro circuit in Spain, where the driver was tasked with navigating the twists and turns of this challenging track. The result was nothing short of sensational, as the GT3-X proved itself to be a formidable machine capable of producing incredible speeds and forces. As the driver described, "it's like a different circuit," with the car exhibiting immense power and grip.

One of the most impressive features of the GT3-X is its braking capabilities. The 12-stage ABS system and maximum deceleration limits make it an incredibly safe and stable machine, even at high speeds. However, this also means that the driver must be extremely focused and concentrated in order to take full advantage of the car's capabilities. As one driver noted, "it's like a brain scrambler," with the need to constantly adjust brake pressure and speed in order to maintain control.

The GT3-X is also equipped with advanced traction control systems, including the Push-to-Pass system, which allows drivers to temporarily increase power output on straights. This feature adds an extra layer of complexity to the driving experience, as drivers must carefully manage their speed and braking points in order to maximize performance.

Despite its incredible capabilities, the GT3-X is not without its limitations. With only 15 units being produced, it's a very exclusive machine that comes with a price tag of $750,000. However, this is significantly less than other high-performance track day cars, making it an attractive option for those looking to experience the thrill of racing without breaking the bank.

Overall, the McLaren 720S GT3-X is a truly unique and exciting vehicle that offers an unparalleled driving experience. With its incredible power output, advanced technology, and exclusive design, it's an absolute must-see for any car enthusiast or track day enthusiast. Whether you're looking to take your driving skills to the next level or simply want to experience the thrill of racing without the risks, the GT3-X is sure to deliver.
