The Car: A Review of the BMW M2
As I sat behind the wheel of the BMW M2, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and eagerness to hit the roads. The car's performance was impressive, with a powerful engine that made it feel like a much lighter vehicle than its 3400-pound weight would suggest.
The brake pedal was another area where the M2 impressed me. It was firm and responsive, but didn't seem to be getting soft at all. In fact, I found myself being able to pad out just enough travel from under braking force without it becoming too soft or binding. This made for a very confidence-inspiring experience, especially when driving aggressively.
However, as we talked about in the video, the weak links of the M2's braking system are not necessarily the brake pads themselves, but rather the fluid used to lubricate them. I mentioned that the engineers had explained in a really good video about stainless steel brake lines versus rubber lines, and how the latter have become more prevalent due to advancements in technology.
I also talked about the importance of maintaining the M2's performance, particularly when it comes to replacing the brake pads. While the M4 engines are known for their strong rotating assemblies, I mentioned that the M2's engine is not a closed-deck unit, which might make it more prone to issues if not properly maintained.
In terms of handling and cornering, the M2 was a joy to drive. The car's feedback was excellent, with a sense of drama and flair that made it feel like an event whenever I pushed it hard. However, I did find that the car lacked a bit of oomph when approaching higher speeds, which might be due to the Comfort Sport mode not providing enough power for my taste.
One other area where the M2 impressed me was its traction off the line. While it's true that the car is not designed to be as aggressive off the starting line as some other cars, I found that it still managed to get a decent amount of grip and acceleration from 0-60mph.
As we explored further, I talked about how the M2's performance can vary depending on the driver's experience level. While some people might find the car too tame or lacking in drama, others will appreciate its focus on delivering a solid driving experience with plenty of feedback and traction.
Ultimately, my time behind the wheel of the BMW M2 was thoroughly enjoyable. While it may not be the most exciting car to drive, especially for those who crave raw power and performance, it's clear that this car is capable of delivering an excellent experience when driven carefully and responsibly.
With its impressive performance, excellent handling, and responsive braking system, the BMW M2 is a great option for anyone looking for a fast and fun driving experience without breaking the bank. And as we discussed in our video, it's also worth noting that with some smart modifications and attention to detail, you can get even more out of this car.
Overall, I'm really impressed with the BMW M2, and I think it's a great choice for anyone looking for a fun and engaging driving experience. With its unique blend of performance, handling, and features, this car is sure to put a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: engood morning everybody welcome to a very very warm day in a canyon somewhere anonymous Canyon so that no one who lives here gets upset my name is zak clapman if you are wondering who I am or where Matt is on the coast of the smoke entire podcast been here since the beginning so I'm gonna be split in time we're gonna be doing I'm gonna be doing fan car one takes he's do be doing press cars race cars and a lot of really fun crazy stuff that's coming up but I digress this is Jason Jason thank you for driving out today everybody appreciate you have ride your 2015 BMW m235i correct not stock not stock we have the RSF flow Bolton's from a six inch stepped HD intercooler to the charge pipes as well as the turbo to intercooler or turbo to hot side aluminum piping as well as kwv to coil overs all run and powered by the BM three platform which is basically similar to MHD JD for cob okay disaster that's your tuning platform correct okay so that's like the computer system that talks to it and tells what to do and then you have kW variant twos which you do you just explained to me so you did an EDC tool yeah the EDC delete allows basically the car not to notice that the accelerometers gone from the stock strut and allows you to use different sports word plus and for the chassis to accommodate to it because it was I used to do something weird you used yeah used to give you a drivetrain malfunction all kinds of basically stuck you're stuck in drive mode and it was not fun it does not sound very good you know so this should be I mean very quick yeah also I'm a stage two low pressure fuel pump from gyro tuning group which allows me to run some ethanol blends of wood today we're not okay but it makes for some fun yeah you know what you know up how you're making I'm guessing about 380 I'm on the stage to OTS map which I absolutely love I've had custom tunes for this before but the stage two from boot mod 3 really just impressed me and it feels great for a daily driver and still fun 380 is a lot you know it's it's easy when we live on the Internet to just see numbers you know that's that is less than this other number I saw 380 wheel horsepower is going to be a very fast do you won't do you like to drive and drive or manual because I know you've got you've got these awesome armen paddles yeah these these metals are from nelson racing wheel in their the first f-series based paddles and they just feel great I love the virginity of them as opposed to the stock ones and couldn't be more happy okay well then you know what I'll just do that and that way you can also go into sports work to us obviously oh that's right I mean turn off traction control if you like I'll keep that on there's no reason to turn it off but I will no sport we'll see here in the menu this is shows you what actually is being changed between modes its words and jazzy they just wear bless this room's everything up a little bit it also turns traction before it yeah cool it'll add an option of bm3 there's an online coding so that my gauges here show more horsepower than I guess stock despite it not actually being able to reach the the redline so the BMW m235i real quick some specs for people you know these came out you can get them for I started like in the upper 30s and then you can spec it out to 55 grand if you wanted to if you got an all-wheel drive one with all the options now some people might go well now you're knocking on him to territory true but some people have referred the m235i at that spec because it's a cushier ride for daily driving than the m2 so would it then it kind of was was he couldn't afford an m4 or for Sue's but you wanted to have a BMW coupe or a German sports coupe with a lot of power this kind of horsepower these came in 320 horsepower 3 and caimans gonna cost a lot more money the Mercedes cla45 is front wheel drive bias which is just not as fun and I did not like the transmission in that car I love the fee evade this one ZF it's fantastic that's why so many companies are using it today BMW had it really everyone's jumped on the bandwagon for good reason there's exceptions like Ford and GM are starting to do their own thing and in any case its own thing but if I hear 8-speed automatic I always hope it's busy of gearbox so what you got with it with sorry m235i is a temple 2+2 BMW sports coupe with a really good powerplant for far less money than horses trips and as they have all learned you know even though people complain that the m2 did come with an M engine this engine is one strong and two takes two mods like like a cat two mice I mean the f-series Platinum has some great vendors that have possibly like the support and biggest seem to be really trying to innovate the platform more so than I've seen when I had my e 9335 by that that was completely saturate for good reason and my twin is single twin-scroll electronic waste gate yeah I mean you know electronic everything it doesn't like that's I you know funny like earlier today I drove a 1979 Porsche Turbo with had mechanical voice game like that's how you used to increase boost you some switches software and it'll so we are this car is very easy to drive quickly yeah it does I mean it feels repeat your car feels really tight the handling is really good the turn is nice the steering field I will say is much improved over the last m235i which was also very fast I had a lot of grip but I have way more communication coming through the steering wheel so what have you done to make that happen honestly the kwv two's setting I got and just cutting the corner balanced really made all the difference okay so it's just like a really you got a good alignment and you got a good suspension exactly all right now I'm sure all was happening with the last one I drove I just something bad it just felt like really artificial and the rest of the car was so quick and you know plenty of grip and everything but I just wasn't getting enough through my hands this pretty good I try to keep it as stock as possible in terms of the camber setting since it is adjustable as well as the Brian I know obviously at the coil over kid but um yeah it just felt felt right pretty much right at the default setting is really linear it doesn't you know definitely runs out of breath I'd say yeah above five grand so it's a pretty narrow power band compared to you know I don't know anything that wraps up to like my car I drove up here with rose to eight we've got a bigger turbo and then you of course so it's definitely narrower but in the way it makes it feel like a really stout any engine just more like like an LS engine like yeah you drive between 3 & 6 grand brakes are good what was that about my sliding armrest that's funny have you done anything to the brakes nothing that the brakes actually I intended to get some stuff like rotors and some standard steel brake lines just for a little more responsiveness but as of now it feels right until I need them they're the do i discard uber use Ivana certified pre-owned and we look at 15,000 miles that is good and you - all right so you put some miles on and how is it treated well it's it was a little bit of a pain but I went to two gear racks supposedly there's no an issue with the gear action ease and it was no big deal when I brought to BMW and said my gear rack opinion I know and they were like here's your replacement and maybe including it coming later I save 6,200 bucks I'll have the car back the average-looking about something half it feels really tight it feels new I mean it's basically Brittany yeah a thousand miles is a really new car and you know you bought it went it was like it was baby too the previous owner was definitely not a Abid driver and I think that's why they covered a bit 15,000 cuz it's not it's not drawing that crowd that's like I'm for a start when someone's buying these brand new it's not drawing the crowd that's like I'm gonna buy an m2 or m3 or an incorrect actually it's definitely a different customer base that target it's like entry low it's like hey look you are an aspiring BMW customer you are you aspire to have an m4 of 4 Series that big GT coupe because these cars you could get almost everything they for sure he's got you without some of the gadgets the leather wasn't quite as fancy you couldn't get a heads-up display otherwise you got four seats you know I think these are really nice-looking compared to one series it wasn't a huge fan of they're kind of like pot-bellied pig thing like it he's just stuck with me I think these Devils it's a good traditional shape with long hood short deck a little bit of an aggressive look but it's not it's not two dragons when you look at them head-on you know you can see like all right now I understand why they flared the fenders on him too because it a little narrow but for a performance car I mean there's so much that these can do out of the box there's so much left on the table that you know just just a reflex like bear fancies up a ton and we seeing cars and omadd's driven cars that have 1,600 horsepower which hand is freezing this is very eager to turn mortars really flat but I'm not getting bounced around these POWs were really nice and burning federal RS ours hires on their from stock wheel this is a very I'm just really blown away with how the steering feels like kW is really I mean ever since I had them on my fridge 35 that was time to supply the minor minor with any other manufacturer they just feel like really well engineered yeah kW is one of the best aftermarket suspension companies I haven't heard bad things said about them from people I trust can't keep on yet so you know it's possible that to be fair to the last m235i I drove maybe my memory faded a bit and I also just got out of a 2012 CLS 63 AMG there at a real steering feel it had steering wait but no field so by comparison this coming through the front it's just more talking stay away lower you get nice and low in these seats definitely lets you know where you are in the maternity see it's a really good I'm actually I'm very picky about sound and any rattle I would seek it out and get rid of it just right your recording engineer Rex yeah so I'm very very OCD about sound and just overall tonality of Fancher transmission just really really quickly which is very good again CF CF is basically I might be and I think it's the best automatic that's not a knee kick you guys different cetera but this is like the best paddle shifting option have you had them versus the regular paddle set I wouldn't be able to remember and it's different different and they saw voice under the fingers in there Illinois partisan carbon battles I just can't remember out of those battles like because I remember that my main complain for that car was like well my main impressions were holy this is fast and the second one was I just think it's filled into the steering exhaust as well actually love the sound of came from vanguard-class on balls you can hear it a little bit it's not that loud the drive-bys are going to be loud it can definitely do that little furball as people for those that are interested but I'd prefer not to be annoyed when I Drive and I think like the brake pedal it's not getting soft yet it just has a little bit more travel than something Mars today from under braking force but it seems to bind pretty pretty fine you can just pad fluid and I think breakage this is a really strong today but the failed points are not really failed points I guess the weak links are usually just the fluid isn't you know ready for trackers yeah these aren't the stainless steel brake lines either oh yeah there's regular lines right yeah I mean I think you can go it was an engineering explained in a really good video about stainless lines versus rubber lines and everyone should go watch it because basically stainless lines used to be a lot more important than they are today because of rubber technology and the way they build rubber lines so is there a difference probably you know race team and run stainless lines because they want to be absolutely sure at every house but do any more beer there you should just do pads of fluid and then we're like your car you your car you like 7/10 it's real flat and if you go to eight and a half like there's like another level of wheat we write it like settles again these cars water performance market yes I was thoroughly impressed coming from a 3-series we've had a lot of our with the modifications I have that makes this totally worth this does not feel like 3400 pounds outside that right now I know that's what they weigh but this feels like a much lighter car it's just really eager to play and change direction we are we're going the speed limit screeching field for people and some people complain like well it doesn't have a true image and you know the M blocks they were stronger blocks like m4 had a twin-turbo not a single better rotating assembly but I think the aftermarket is proven that the rotating assembly in this is snout and you know the m4 engines are a closed deck and these aren't but it's not like a Subaru thing at least not that I've heard where people are smashing things apart if you were in regular sport night before plus I don't have traction off that's why you're still attraction I do would you like two more minutes yeah there's only different it does a little harder for me five and six yeah you're you're in the Comfort Sport mode oh I thought because I looked down I thought Sport Plus led to job there's one more notch out the minute you're used to kind of expose you I am a not like we needed yeah we're speed but you do feel a little more now I do feel the the improvement is pulling from five to six because it was definitely it was basically trying turning the power not back down at five and all right you know it's real fast but it lacked a little bit of drama there's no way a building to you know freak like building to crescendo it kind of went learn and then they just sort of get it sort of swayed into it and gently oh and now the exhaust is in the Pantanal you'd now you this person is no less by but we're gonna pull off to not pop a tire on all of these old sharp rocks all right well we know we can end it here we don't have to go back to base to necessarily on speed the cameras very impressive thank you thank you for your fun you know I love the m2 a lot but it's real expensive it's up there and the fact that you can get a lot of the experience you know for a lot less money is really cool because at the end of it I don't know for me it's what experience what I'm looking for and how much money do I have and how much actually experience going to actually get from it right yeah you put it put a couple smart parts on maybe you don't you know you can be really smart about where you spend your money and get some cornering you get I'm the tackle feedbacks great cornering speeds awesome and the power is more than anybody needs it's not like it's not an event which some people seek but not everything can be an event and if if every day is your birthday your birthday doesn't matter anymore you know it's not a bear it's the cars fast it sticks really well it feels great and thank you for
