The Importance of Proper Exhaust System Maintenance

Maintaining your exhaust system is crucial for the longevity and performance of your vehicle. A well-maintained exhaust system can improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and prevent costly repairs down the road. However, many drivers neglect to check their exhaust systems regularly, which can lead to serious problems.

One common issue that can arise is a clogged catalytic converter. The catalytic converter is responsible for converting toxic fumes into harmless gases. Over time, it can become clogged with debris and lose its effectiveness. This can cause your vehicle's emissions system to fail, resulting in costly repairs. Fortunately, there are products available that can help clean the catalytic converter and restore its efficiency.

One such product is a catalytic converter cleaner. These cleaners are designed to break down and remove deposits and debris from the catalytic converter, restoring its ability to convert fumes efficiently. However, it's essential to use these products with caution and follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Overusing or misusing these products can cause more harm than good.

Some manufacturers claim that their catalytic converters are self-cleaning systems, which means they don't need any maintenance beyond regular oil changes. While this may be true for some vehicles, it's not always the case. Even if your vehicle has a self-cleaning system, there may still be instances where you need to take additional steps to maintain its efficiency.

For example, if your vehicle fails an emissions test due to a clogged catalytic converter, it may be necessary to clean or replace it. In some cases, removing the catalytic converter and soaking it in a cleaning solution can help restore its efficiency. However, this process can be time-consuming and requires specialized knowledge and equipment.

It's also worth noting that some drivers may attempt to use DIY methods to clean their catalytic converters, such as using dish soap or pressure washers. While these methods may provide temporary relief, they are not recommended for long-term maintenance. Using the wrong products or techniques can cause more harm than good, potentially damaging your vehicle's engine and other components.

In contrast, manual transmissions have proven to be a reliable choice for many drivers. Because they offer more control over the transmission's operation, they tend to be less prone to wear and tear. When properly maintained, a standard transmission can last for hundreds of thousands of miles without needing replacement.

One notable example is neighbor Homer H2, who has driven his 1971 Chrysler Newport with an original engine and two transmissions since the 1950s. His vehicle has undergone extensive maintenance and repairs over the years, but it continues to run strong. In fact, this classic car was built for durability and reliability, with a robust engine and transmission designed to withstand heavy use.

In recent years, automatic transmissions have become increasingly popular, particularly in pickup trucks. While they offer convenience and ease of use, they can also be prone to wear and tear, especially when used for heavy-duty applications. One notable example is the 2016-2018 Tacoma, which has been plagued by transmission issues due to a combination of factors.

In these situations, it's essential to consider the benefits and drawbacks of each transmission type before making a decision. While automatic transmissions offer convenience and ease of use, manual transmissions provide more control and reliability. If you're in the market for a new or used pickup truck, it may be worth considering a standard transmission as your best option.

Airport Taxis: A Blast from the Past

In the mid-20th century, airport taxis were a common sight at major airports across the country. These giant vehicles could accommodate up to 10 people and were often modified for transportation purposes. The most iconic example is the Stageway Coach-built Airport Taxi, which was produced in Arkansas during the 1950s and 1970s.

These airport taxis were typically 20-24 feet long and featured a sleek, streamlined design. They were built to accommodate large groups of people and were often used for transportation to and from airports. In fact, many drivers would use these vehicles to travel with friends or colleagues, making it a convenient and affordable option.

Today, these vintage airport taxis can be seen at classic car shows and museums, where they are restored to their former glory. Some owners even take these vehicles on road trips, using them as a unique mode of transportation. For example, one owner drove his 1971 Chrysler Newport Airport Taxi from Tennessee to Lincoln, Nebraska, with a group of friends.

While these airport taxis may seem like relics of the past, they offer a glimpse into a bygone era when transportation was more laid-back and affordable. They also showcase the ingenuity and resourcefulness of their creators, who built vehicles that were designed for function and comfort rather than purely for style or luxury.

In conclusion, maintaining your exhaust system is essential for the longevity and performance of your vehicle. While catalytic converter cleaners can be helpful in restoring efficiency, they should be used with caution and according to manufacturer instructions. Manual transmissions have proven to be a reliable choice for many drivers, offering more control and reliability than automatic transmissions. Finally, airport taxis may seem like relics of the past, but they offer a unique glimpse into a bygone era when transportation was more laid-back and affordable.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enrev up your engines dad too pwd says scotty love your videos i like to see unbiased opinion with integrity but i have one thing your click bait video titles i know they had fun but i think you go too far all right well yes i do it you know i do it i do it because people basically often don't want to learn something they think i i i don't want to learn anything so if you put a sensational title in there god i get attracted and then they watch it and they learn something that's actually good for them that saves the money that keeps them from buying a junker car and buying a good one instead i'll continue to do it because i found that the more i use that the more people watch my videos so i can help more people out so i'm forcing you to learn things that are good for you and you admit they're funny so you get a laugh and you get knowledge at the same time you know it's rarity that you can do that i mean if you really look at the overall picture let's take comedians in the united states some of the best information you get is actually from comedians because since they're comedians they can criticize all kinds of stuff and they say well this is comedy we're allowed to make fun of anything right well half of the fun is just ironic fun that you see something the politicians are doing you can't help but laugh at it because you can see what hypocrisy is going on but if you're a comedian you can talk about it and everybody laughs and says haha and then they think you know he's really right there so that's why i do it i'm forcing all you people to learn things that are good for you and adding a little bit of humor in it so you know i think it's a good thing for people to learn things and have a little laugh a stuff that in the long run will actually save them money it's not like i'm saying hey you can get these glasses with x-ray vision see-through stuff that isn't true at all although that might be a good clickbait title too and then i could teach people about how they can use thermal imaging devices that's a good idea for a video i think i'll do that one next jackie clinton says scotty i love the channel got a question unleashing a camaro challenger mustang i want to get a camaro ss in a few months just wondering what your thoughts are in these cars okay you're talking about leasing right hey you don't own it and if you're talking about leasing a new one i know you can at least use ones but if you release a new one you know you're not responsible for any kind of repairs or anything it's under warranty get whatever you want in that case me i get the challenger because they're fast oh they're screaming cars to drive around and and what the heck if they break that's their problem not yours i wouldn't buy any of them tell you the truth the new ones they're all high-tech plastic stuff that is going to break faster i wouldn't buy any of the new muscle cars they're way way expensive and i can see they'll fall apart as they age because of all the technology and all the plastic and all the computer access but you're leasing so get whatever you want you know it's your choice i just think challenger because it'd be fun i love driving around when i work on them but i'd never buy one and i'm too cheap to lease one i just drive when i'm done working on them and have a little fun then on to the next one freedom is paramount so sky i'm hunt for used vehicle i want to know which automaker has the best interior i'm looking at honda or toyota cord civic camry and what do you think about it i want the best interior quality well me i want the best engine and transmission quality that's what i really think about i care about it's going to drive down the road you know and i'm sitting on the inside watching the traffic i don't pay that much attention to the interior but if you do on honda and toyota i would have to say that the toyota lexus interior quality seems to be the highest of them all i'll give you a perfect example my wife's 2002 lexus es 300 that i paid three grand for ages ago it's leather seats and they're still in pretty good shape now some of them faded a little but online i just looked at companies and found here's the color code for the interior and i got the leather dye that matched it perfectly and re-dyed the faded parts and then polished it up and they look really good and they're not all ripped apart so i would have to say that the toyota lexus has the best interior quality but if you're talking about long life and you're talking about buying a used because you said 12k is your ceiling your best deal is to get ones that have normal seats cloth seats because the cloth seats hold up better than leather seats if you're in really hot or really cold climates they will last a lot longer and you'll have less problems than you will if you have a lot of leather because leather is what you know it's dead animal skin right and it's dead eventually it's going to crack even if you take care of it so you're better off with a cloth interior if you want the longest life that you can possibly get momo says scotty i got a 2010 toyota corolla the tires went flat but there wasn't a hole or an issue when the valves found what could have caused it you say it's your back left tire that went completely flat they couldn't find anything they said the valve wasn't damaged well one you might have enemies that let the air out anybody can do that there's no locks on those things you know actually you can buy locks to stick on it but of course of course then you're really tempting fake because if somebody decide they're going to let your air out as a joke and they want to let the air out now if they can't get it off maybe they'll poke a hole with a knife so you don't want to encourage people to go a little bit further now what probably happened if they said the valve stem isn't leaking often it's the valve stem where the rubber goes in if it's old grab the valve stem and wiggle it and if you wiggle it you hear that means it's starting to go and replace the valve stem the whole assembly the valve assembly itself because it could be that it often is wiggle it with your finger then you know it's bad have it replaced the only other thing i see it all the time is if the bead of the tire on the outside and the inside where the ridge snaps into the rim if it wasn't done correctly it will leak on the seam so what you want to do is take the tire off put like 40 psi in it then get some dishwashing liquid water and put it around the rim and let it sit and if you think it foams up either on the top and when you flip it over on the bottom you're gonna have to tire taken apart the rim cleaned inside then lubricated with tire lubrication and then put back together again and rebalanced it's got to be one of those or somebody doesn't like you lorenkov meth says hey our cadillac converter cleaner safety is ready to keep exhaust systems clean well normally you don't need to do anything they clean they're self-cleaning systems that's why they have these precious metals that don't get deteriorated as they're working once in a while let's say you got an old car kind of a clunker and it fails your emissions test for the year and it says catalog converter inefficient it's worthwhile thing to try to do to clean it but it's not something you want to be doing all the time because no one knows what the ramifications are of adding some kind of cleaner into your fuel system over and over and over again most are made to use once or twice and then that's it if they don't fix it then there's generally a serious physical problem like if your cattle converter really is clogged up inside it will build up a residue on all the little pieces that are burning the hydrocarbons and then it's just too far gone and you gotta buy another catalytic converter now i know some guys will go far enough and it can be done that they will take the cattle mirror off they'll soak it in a bucket a dishwashing liquid which actually helps clean them then they'll get a pressure washer and the pressure washer the inside to break the pieces off and sometimes that will work it's a lot of work you know there's no arguing that but people want to save money we'll try all kinds of things i wouldn't overuse any kind of cleaner they're not made to be used all the time and normally you don't need to do anything at all gasoline burns pretty clean if you've got good gasoline it's quality and if your car is in good shape you normally don't have to do anything at all to it jmh dinger says scotty i'm looking to buy a new or used tacoma no more than a few years old how would you describe the quality of manual versus automatic i've heard the recent automatics 2016 to 18 head problems true look at some minor problems nothing outrageous but if you want a truck that's going to last forever get yourself a standard transmission one everything is so much simpler there's less things to break you can control it and let's face it you're buying what a pickup truck it's nice to have a standard in a pickup truck because if you're pulling heavy weight you can keep it in the gear longer you're not going to be wearing the transmission out the biggest thing that wears out automatic transmissions in any vehicles and of course trucks is if you have an automatic transmission and you're pulling heavy loads it strains them they wear out faster that's always the first thing that wears out neighbor here in tennessee has a homer h2 and he's got 360 i believe thousand miles on it still got the original engine but he's on the second transmission because the transmission wore out that's always the first thing that wears out in a vehicle truck that pulls anything so get a standard then what the heck you won't have to worry about any kind of problems because they don't have any problems check out what people used to use to go to the airport this is a classic it's a 1971 chrysler newport airport cars they could hold up to 10 people this was before the day of uber before the day of even the shuttle buses big out chrysler 400 cubic kits engine with a two-barrel carburetor this particular guy was getting it going warming it up before he takes his road trip to lincoln nebraska to the motors museum of american speed the guy's actually driving it there these are 20 foot long vehicles you could fit up to 10 people in them for going to the airport it's people used to use from the mid 1950s and late 1970s people actually wrote in these things yes it seems like you know that's a fred flintstone idea but no i've ridden in these things that's how old i am this particular chrysler airport is 24 feet long now they were all modified they weren't built that way at the factory stageway coaches in arkansas built all these things and some of them were built pretty cheaply they made them as fast as they could so if you're thinking about getting one of these movie prop airport taxis check out for rust jack them up you see it's all rusted don't buy it but that's what people used to ride in these giant airport taxis if you could get 10 of your friends to pony up to go to the airport you jump in one of those things and away you go just like in the movies so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that bell\n"
