Testing the Acer Spin 3 Laptop's Performance
So let's go ahead and test that out and usually when i swap from 4k to 5k we don't have as many drop frames because we don't have that initial load in and it's looking really good i'm sure you'll get a couple drop frames here and there at 4k and 5k with this but overall you'll never notice it unless you have that frame counter on so streaming from youtube will work out just fine on this i got one more video test that i always like to run and that's using plex so i'm going to move over there now so here we are in plex i'm going to go ahead and try this out 4k 60fps 60 megabits per second and i am connected to my five gigahertz network in the house this actually loaded up much faster than i thought it would and as you can see playback here is super smooth and to tell you the truth going into this i figured it would do 4k video playback quite well i've tested a lot of lower end chips on my channel and i've had good luck with these intels like the m4000 or the n4100 and this one is more powerful now.
It's time to move over to some pc gaming and since this is a lower end laptop and we'll be testing out some lower end games or some older games here we have bully scholarship edition still a fun game we're at 30 fps and you're not gonna have any trouble running this one next on the list left 4 dead 2 720p medium settings and by the end of this run i had an average of 81 fps i did see it dipped down below the 80s but it never dipped down below 60. i completely understand that this is an older game and that's the reason i wanted to test it on here this little laptop will not run gta 5 it's just not going to do it but there are a ton of great games that will run perfectly fine on a laptop like this csgo wasn't doing too great on this little thing and i really think it comes down to only having four gigs of ram i do have the xbox performance bar running up in the top left hand corner and ram utilization is sitting around 71 plus we're only in single channel if we added another stick in here it would help out with the gpu performance and there's a good chance we could get a significant jump in games like this by adding another stick of ram running these integrated gpus with dual channel ram does help out quite a bit.
Next up og skyrim and i'm actually impressed with the performance here we're at 720p low settings we're over 50 fps we're not quite at that 60 constantly with this little unit but in my opinion this game is playable like this really nice to see this game working this well full guys wasn't so great here i'm at the lowest of the low settings 720p and we're around 30 fps it does jump up every once in a while and you'll also see it drop under 30 but by the end of this i had an average of 31. and finally one of my favorite games to test on lower end hardware we have overwatch 720p low settings 50 resolution scaling and performance really isn't that bad again i think we're limited by that ram we only have four gigs in here running in single channel dual channel will definitely help out with this one but by the end i was at an average of 47 fps so it's definitely not a high-end laptop but the price reflects that coming in at 150 dollars i really do think that this is well worth the money if you're looking for a budget laptop and you know exactly what to expect when you're getting it this is great for school this is great for work low in gaming and it even handles emulation quite well.
And speaking of emulation i do have a full video coming up very soon so definitely stay tuned to the channel and if there's anything else you want to see running on this unit just let me know in the comments below i'm glad to see that we do have an option to add a little more ram to this and swap out the storage and for sixteen dollars you can add another four gigs here that's going to bump it up to eight gigs and you're also going to be running it in dual channel so it will help out with gpu performance but that's going to wrap it up for this video i really appreciate you watching this is a laptop that i can definitely recommend at that 150 price tag if you're looking for a budget laptop just know what to expect when you pick one of these up if you have any questions let me know in the comments below and like always thanks for watching you
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey what's going on guys the cta prime back here again today we're going to be taking a look at this 150 lenovo laptop that i recently picked up on an early black friday deal now these will be available on black friday and i'm glad that i was able to get my hands on one of these early so we could take a look at it and that way you could decide if it's worth picking up or not on black friday so yeah this is a 14 inch lenovo ideapad 3 it's powered by an intel pentium gold cpu we have four gigs of ram and 128 gigabytes of storage and this will be going for 149.99 on black friday so i've done about four days of testing with this and i can tell you right now if you're looking for a budget laptop this is definitely one to look at at 150 dollars it's really hard to pass up especially given the fact that we can upgrade the ssd and the ram in this lenovo ideapad 3. so i'm going to give you a quick rundown on the i o that's included with this as you can see we have a 3.5 millimeter audio jack a full-size micro sd card reader and that's all on the right side moving over to the left hand side we have our power in full size hdmi 2 usb 3.0 ports and a single usb 2.0 port got a decently sized track pad here and i'm actually a big fan of these lenovo track pads i've personally never had any issues in the past the keyboard and track pad are far from high end but you got to keep in mind this is going for 150 and at that price it works perfectly for a machine like this so let's go ahead and jump right into the specs for the cpu it has the pentium gold 6405u this is a dual core cpu with four threads at 2.4 gigahertz there's no turbo boost or burst on this unit the gpu is a 10th gen intel uhd up to 950 megahertz it comes pre-installed with four gigabytes of non-user replaceable lp ddr4 ram running at 2400 megahertz but there is another sodium slot inside of here so we can add more ram i would just recommend throwing another 4 gig stick in here bringing the total up to 8 gigs on this unit now this comes out of the box with 128 gigabytes of storage but it can be easily upgraded because it's an m.2 ssd you could throw a one terabyte drive in here no problem at all it's got a 14 inch display at 1366 by 768 802.11 ac wi-fi so you can pick up that 5 gigahertz network bluetooth 5.0 and it comes pre-installed with windows 10 and s mode it's really easy to get out of s mode and i would definitely recommend it and you can upgrade to windows 10 home for free it'll bring it right out to s mode so you can install any application you'd like as long as it's compatible with windows so whenever i get one of these lower cost laptops i always like to pull the bottom off just to see if it's upgradeable and most of the time it's not but to my surprise this laptop here is upgradable in the ram department and storage department it's got a 35 watt hour battery and lenovo is claiming you can get up to six hours of battery life out of this i would definitely keep the charger close because this is on the smaller side but i'm not complaining here for the price it's got a upgradable m.2 drive this is not nvme but there are mounting spots for the 42 millimeter which comes in it or an 80 millimeter so you do have choices here and there is a spot for a 2.5 inch drive but unfortunately there's no cable in here there's a spot to hook it up but you'd have to source that on ebay personally i would just stick with an m.2 drive in something like this the cpu is actively cooled with a fan so this thing can run at full boat all day long without overheating i have tested it and finally upgradable ram so we do have four gigs soldered to the board but we have a single dimm in here that can accept up to an eight gigabyte stick bringing the total of ram up to 12 but to keep the price down you can get a cheaper 4 gig 2400 megahertz stick and throw it right in here that'll bring you up to 8 gigs and i think that's plenty for a budget laptop like this so before we jump into some testing there are a few settings that i always change with these lower end lenovo laptops while we're booting up we're going to get into the bios by pressing f2 there's not many performance settings in here but on most of these newer lenovo laptops there's an option for system performance mode and it's usually set to intelligent cooling or battery saving and always go to extreme performance i've seen this on the last three lenovo laptops that i've tested so that's the first thing i change in the bios i always go to exit save those changes now this doesn't always help out on every single laptop that i've tested it on and sometimes it's a bit different sometimes it's just changing that fan curve sometimes it extends the turbo boost time sometimes it ups the tdp on the cpu to allow it to perform better but on this one here it is definitely helped out when i set that to extreme performance and the next thing i do is always change my power plan to high performance or ultimate performance if you want to enable ultimate performance just do a quick google search you have to do it from command prompt but it works with most windows 10 pcs and on these lower end laptops i have seen a jump in performance especially on the gpu side when enabling this so those are the only two things that i really change here for performance and i'm going to go ahead and connect this to my game capture so we can get a better look at the screen and get into a little bit of testing to see how this thing really performs alright so here we are i've installed a bunch of stuff and i gotta say this little thing is really snappy for 150 laptop first up let's just test out some web browsing we'll just head over to lenovo's website as you can see everything loads up quite fast we do have some image caching going on that takes a little longer than a higher end laptop would but overall i mean web browsing on this unit here feels very very smooth it's totally capable of web browsing if you want to do some skype meeting zoom this is going to work out just fine next on the list some 4k video playback from youtube we'll go ahead and full screen it make sure i'm at 4k got stats for nerds on and on the initial load in just like a lot of systems we will have some drop frames dropped a couple more but not bad at all for what we're working with here we're up to 18 drop frames here 4k 60fps but as soon as everything's buffered out it's going to be really really smooth now this particular video here actually has a 5k version so let's go ahead and test that out and usually when i swap from 4k to 5k we don't have as many drop frames because we don't have that initial load in and it's looking really good i'm sure you'll get a couple drop frames here and there at 4k and 5k with this but overall you'll never notice it unless you have that frame counter on so streaming from youtube will work out just fine on this i got one more video test that i always like to run and that's using plex so i'm going to move over there now so here we are in plex i'm going to go ahead and try this out 4k 60fps 60 megabits per second and i am connected to my five
