Creative Hacks to Label Your School Supplies ~ Back to School - HGTV Handmade

Title: Creative Ways to Label Your School Supplies

Hi everyone, I’m Karen Kavett, welcome back to HGTV Handmade. Today, we’re going to talk about school supplies and how to keep them organized without losing them. After spending time gathering and organizing all your nice supplies, the last thing you want is to lose them.

One of my favorite ways to label notebooks or binders is by using letter stickers in multiple colors. You can use one color to spell out the name of your class, and then layer the other two colors on top to make it look like a shadow. This adds an extra touch to your school supplies and makes them stand out. I also love mixing up the order of the colors for different words on your notebook. For example, you can use one color for the title of the notebook and another color for the subject or date.

Using holographic duct tape is another great way to add some fun to your notebooks. Simply cover the front with a piece of holographic duct tape and then outline that with thin strips of bright pink duct tape. Next, you can use a label maker to add more labels and decorations. I have a fun pink label tape that I think any kid or adult would love. All you need to do is type out your labels and cut a decorative design into the ends before pressing it down onto the book. You can also cover the spine of the book with pink tape for extra protection.

For a more permanent solution, you can use iron-on letters. These are quick and have a big impact, making them perfect for labeling school supply pouches. Simply arrange your design, which can be as simple as your initials or first name, and follow the directions that come with the letters to iron them on. Make sure to only iron onto a fabric like canvas or cotton, and not a cheap plastic material that might melt under the iron.

Once the letter has cooled down, peel off the backing and you'll have a cute label for your school supply pouch. For an extra touch, I added a patch to the other side of my pouch, and mine has a pin so it's removable, but you could always iron or sew on the patch as well. I think this is adorable, and no one will walk away with your personalized school supply pouch.

Another great way to label notebooks is by stamping out your message. I'm using a post-it note for my labels, but you can use any paper you have or even sticker paper if you have it on hand. Once you've made your label, just put it in place on the inside of your notebook and cover it with packing tape to protect it. Don't forget to outline your label with washi tape because why have all this washi tape if you're not gonna use it? This adds an extra touch to your store-bought notebooks.

For younger kids, taking a photo of them can be a great way to label their school supplies. Simply glue the photo in place on the inside of the notebook and also label it with their name. This ensures that the school will definitely know who to return the supply to if it gets lost.

Finally, I want to show you how to use holographic letter stickers to make a graphic bold binder cover. Start laying out the letter sticker to spell out the name of your class, but when you get to the end of the line, I think it looks cool if you just continue on to the next line with no breaks or spaces. A little tip: if you want a character that's not included, like an exclamation point, you can cut it out of a similar letter. This is bold and trendy, and I know some of you might be cringing from the typography crimes I committed here, but sometimes you gotta break the rules, and I really like it.
