**Asteroids Review: A Retro Arcade Experience**
If you're looking for a retro arcade experience that's both nostalgic and challenging, Asteroids is an excellent choice. This classic game was originally released in 1979 and has since become a staple of the gaming industry. In our review, we'll explore the features and gameplay of Asteroids, as well as its compatibility with different controllers.
Asteroids is an arcade-style shooter that requires players to navigate a spaceship through a field of asteroids while avoiding enemy fire. The game's objective is simple: destroy all the asteroids before they destroy you. However, the game's simplicity belies its complexity and challenge level. With its responsive controls and addictive gameplay, Asteroids has become a classic among retro gamers.
One of the standout features of Asteroids is its graphics and sound design. The game's 3D graphics and cabinet simulation make it feel like an authentic arcade experience. Additionally, the game's audio effects, including the rumble feature, add to the overall immersion and excitement of the game.
For those who want a more authentic retro gaming experience, we recommend using the original 2600 controller. However, if you're looking for a more modern take on Asteroids, there are alternative controllers available that can provide a similar experience.
**The Dreamcast's NesterDC SE: A Retro Gaming Console**
The Dreamcast's NesterDC SE is a retro gaming console that's designed to bring classic games from the 8-bit era to the modern era. In our review, we'll explore the features and capabilities of this unique console, as well as its compatibility with different controllers.

The console comes preloaded with over 100 games, including classic titles like Swordquest. This feature makes it an excellent option for retro gamers who want to play their favorite childhood games without having to dig out their old consoles.
NesterDC SE also offers a range of settings that allow players to customize their gaming experience. These include options for scan lines, vector display, and audio effects, among others. The console's user-friendly interface makes it easy to navigate and find the features you want.
For those who are new to retro gaming, NesterDC SE is an excellent option. Its compatibility with modern controllers and its range of settings make it an accessible console for gamers of all skill levels. Whether you're a retro gaming enthusiast or just looking for a unique gaming experience, NesterDC SE is definitely worth checking out.
**The PC Mode: An Uncharted Territory**
One of the most interesting aspects of the Dreamcast's NesterDC SE is its PC mode. While we didn't get to try it out in our review, we were told that the console can emulate a range of operating systems and even boot up into Windows 98.
This feature raises many questions about the potential uses of NesterDC SE. Can it be used as a retro gaming console? Can it be repurposed for modern gaming? The possibilities are endless, and we're excited to see how this console is used in the future.
For now, we'll leave that question unanswered and focus on the many features and capabilities of NesterDC SE that make it an excellent option for retro gamers. Whether you're looking for a nostalgic gaming experience or just something new to try, this console has something to offer.
In conclusion, Grammarly is an excellent tool for writers who want to refine their writing skills and eliminate errors. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- It's retro time!?Maybe, sort of.I've been waiting forthis for a long time.Like this unassuming looking package, you can probably actually tell what it isby the tape on the top. It's from a small companyyou might've heardof called Atari. They had a console called the VCSwhich is currently calledthe Atari 2600 and that is,I'm led to believe, what this is modeled after. So I don't have a whole lot of nostalgiafor Atari personally 'cause Ididn't really grow up with itbut I am really interestedin seeing what this isbecause it's more thanjust a game console. So let's get this open.Oh, here we go.I might be able to finagle this side.- I taped over the top.- Yeah, yeah, you didn't tapeover the bottom did you, Jono?- Well, you're not supposedto open things from the bottom.- Well I'm opening it from the bottom. It's what you get.- You mean like the back door?- Backdoor, best way to get in.We're in through the back doorand it is actually the bottom,I guess they didn't expectme to open it from this end.So let's get this out of here.Oh, look at that.So what size shirt did they send us?XL.- I'm XL.Thank you!- let's show them the shirt First.(laughing)Atari VCS.Quite a nice little logo there. It kind of reminds meof the Atari boot screenwith the like multicolored rainbow effectthat they had going onthere and it actually sayson the back here thatit was backed in 2008.So I was a year off, it was 2000,- 2018.- It was backed in 2018.I was 10 years off.(laughing)Since Andy is XL and I am, well, unfortunately not quite XL.Here you go.- Thank you, Atari!- I don't know if we can keep that or not.Moving on.We have other things that we might be ableto keep like this, this here sticker. They're actually prettyhigh quality stickers. So that's the ancillary stuff.Let's get this out of the outer wrappingand take a look at the box.Ooh, sexy.Actually that is quite fetching.I actually really do likethe like subtle dark walnutthat they got here, that's what they callit here, black walnut.Video computer system, gaming plus PC streaming.Okay.800, I don't know what that means.Does it mean that ithas Atari 800 support? Can I play 800 games?- Could you?- Could I?- Should you?- Should I?- Should you!?- I mean the Atari 800 wasactually not a bad machineif I remember correctly,it's like the 5200 except it's a computer. One thing that mightbe throwing a couple of you offif you haven't been keeping up,is this gaming plus PC plus streaming bit.As it turns out, this is actually straight upan AMD Ryzen based machine. It's actually a Ryzen embedded processorand the graphics are Vega 3 I think. So it's not super powerfulbut it's more than enough to play.- Can I scalp it?- These kinds of games. Can you scalp it?I don't know.I mean, it'll probablybe scalped a little bitbut I'm not sure how bigthe market is for it.So we'll have to see.- But memories.- Memories, can you put a price on memory?I mean, I lose mine all the time.So yeah, it's got the new andretro games and apps built in,a 100 plus Atari classics.Okay.Discover Atari classicswith a modern controller.Yep.Okay, featuring LED effects in rumble.I dunno what the LED effects are all aboutbut we'll find out andcustomize, unique PC mode, upgradable ram and storage.Every console should have this.I mean, maybe not actuallybut you know, this is good. This is basically a console on a PC.You remember the SuborZ+ that we looked aton LTT a little while ago? That was basically the same kind of idea,is to have like a special game OS filledwith games and then like astraight up PC OS like Windowsor Linux or in this case,it also supports Chrome OS.Yeah, this could be avery useful little machinefor somebody who wants to, you know, play games and have asmall little computerto occupy a very littlespace in their home.Let's get it out of the box.Two chambers, this feels likeit might be the main unit.Oh yeah, almost certainly.Let's work our way upin terms of size here. That is adorable.I like the matte. The mirror kind of works alongside itbut I know that this isgonna pick up fingerprints. This button here is theconnect slash pairing button,I'm sure, these two seem tobe menu and back and oh yeah, here's another button on the front here.So you've got two buttons like thatand then you've got your directions.Never been a fan of thisparticular layout for controls, but it is classic. So they've got that going for them.It feels, it feels pretty solid actually. It's not like creaky or anything like thatand two nice rubber strips on the bottomso you can plant it downand really get going. There's no suction cupsand there's no placeto put suction cups though. So if you're into that, then you're out of luck unfortunately.Nice lengthy micro USB cable.I'm more interested in this box though.Okay, yeah.So there's a little quick start in here. That button is in factfor pairing and for powerbut these two buttons here, you can toggle between VCS and Xbox mode. That basically means that you can togglebetween like their proprietarylike controller mode,to being able to be used in the PC mode,so in Windows 10 or whatever. And here's their, not an Xbox controller.(laughing)- Hmm.Okay.So Atari is much lighter than Microsoft. There's no knurling onthe back or anything. It's just soft plastic. It's actually pretty solid again,it's not creaky or anything. This D-pad is at very least passable. This D-pad is not good.If you don't like how theSega Genesis controller feelswith it's like disc shaped D-pad,this is a million times worsebecause there's no like actual D-tense.Yeah, Like I don't feellike I'm pressing anythingin particular after this first press. So if i were to do like a Dragon Punchin Street Fighter thatmight or might not fire,I have no idea becausethere's no feedback.I'm just like rubbing myfinger across the D-pad.So that's a thing, but I guess we'll have tosee how it feels in game.Triggers feel okay butthey're a little spongy.Yeah, these are a little bit spongyon the way down too I guess. It's soft, let's put it that way. They're not bad though and thenthere's these bumpers, whichI mean, they're just bumpers.Presumably this has a built-inbattery and yes it does. It's at 75% charged rightnow if the three dots areto be believed. That's Atari's controller. It's basically this but it's different.I would say for the worse, but I mean, they tried.Yeah, just another micro B cable, and finally the main event, the Atari VCS itself. There it is.These nice little tabs to pull it out. That's cute. It's got an external power supply. What are these differenttypes of bags here? This one is resealable. This one is just openand this one is sealed.- It gives you threetypes of unboxing experiences.- Yeah, you get three timesthe unboxing experience.Anyway, this guy hereis just the other endto this power adapter andwe've got an HDMI cable.Anything else in here?Snack for later. All right. So all of this stuff is boring. This is the real meatof the experience here.Stop, thank you foryour Atari VCS purchase. If you have questions or problemswith your purchase please do not return itto the retail store.Great.We didn't get it from a retail store. So I don't knowwhere we return it if wehad any problems with it.So thank you. We're stuck with it.(laughing)This is mine now.I'll just make it sothat the taking up space in the warehouseand then at some pointthey'll beg me to take them. That is real wood.I'm touching real wood right now.- How much does this thing cost?- 399.It's more than most mini consolesbut when you considerit's like a Ryzen computerthat's upgradable, like it's not too bad.You got your two USB portsupfront, these are 3.0 type A.Around the back we've got two USB ports.HDMI, ethernet, Gigabit,AC power and power, power.Okay, so should we get set up then?I mean, I could likedo this kind of thing.Verify the account, Jono.- I did!- Hi, Short.- Hi, Linus.(laughing)- How to install Companion APP, yep.Okay, so I have theVCS Companion APP here.I may actually have to connect itto the same WiFi networkbut it's taking a minuteto find the VCS.Okay, you know what?I think I don't careenough about that feature.- I wanna play some games.- Yeah, let's play some games. Thanks Grammarly forsponsoring today's videoand hopefully you don't hatethat we forgot to segue this.Grammarly is a digital writingassistant that helps youwith grammar and spelling arcade games.Let's go with Asteroids.Up is thrust, directions are directions. The A button is shoot.B is that teleport thingthat almost always kills you. It's got some pretty heftyrumble actually, like it's hefty. So that's Asteroids. It's neat how the box is in3D and the cabinet is in 3D,ah, the back of the boxisn't modeled, come on.I'm gonna switch to the other controllerfor the authentic 2600 experience. To be clear, I've neveractually played a real 2600.So I'm gonna suck at this.Sprint Master.Oh cool.Oh, that's neat. It's got the owner's manual. There was an NES emulatorfor Dreamcast called NesterDC SEthat let you do this as well. This is super sweet.I love it.Oh, okay, you can turn on scan lines.Oh, you can do realisticvector display, bright, bold, standard, okay, cool.So they're actually givingyou a lot of options here.Audio, yeah.Flicker authentic, yeah, you can,I think what that means iseither they're actually filteringit or they're removing the Sprite Limitwhich I mean, I guesstechnically this didn't,the 2600 hardware was weird.Right, These are all thesettings that you would setwith jumpers, like switcheson the original 2600,it's kind of hilarious.Oh, this isn't what Ithought it was gonna be.Oh yeah, I crashed immediatelyand I crashed again.I am not good at this game.I'm not good with this controller.Yeah, he lapped me like twice. And oftentimes this is what happenedwhen you play a 2600 game, the game just runs and you do a gameand then it kicks you back out. There's the back of the box.So I guess they have the back of the boxfor some games but not all of them.Yars' Revenge, that's a classic.I've never played it butthis is far more minimalto the joystick than Sprint Raceor whatever it was called was.Like I've seen this game played beforebut I've never played it myself.Let's try something withlike dial support here.Oh yeah and I immediately missed.Oh hey, this even has rumble in it.Okay, This rotary encoderis really good, I love it.There is the slight issueof there being a little bitof stiction when you turn it,making finer adjustmentsis a little bit difficultbut making flicks is super satisfying. What else is there to say? This is a pretty neat little console.Oh, we don't, we didn't trythe operating system PC modebut they didn't have a PC mode.So I don't know what we can do with that.Yeah, like obviously there's more to this.Let us know if you wanna seea full in-depth review in LTT,like, I mean there's the PCmode, there's the upgradability, there's so many different thingsthat can be done with this.I mean, I know there havebeen reviews of it alreadybut maybe we can findsome other angle to kindof really push it or dosomething weird with it.I don't know. All I know is that it's areally neat little mini PCfor 400 bucks you're gettinga 100 games for free.Well, a 100 games built in.Now they're not the most complex games, they're certainly not the gamesthat I have the most nostalgia forbut they are still likeclassic games and somethat I wasn't even expecting to see there, like the Swordquest gameswhich you should actually read up on.Those are ridiculously interesting. So yeah, like, let us know if you wantto see more about this, otherwise for now, thanks for watching.Make sure you get subscribedto see more ShortCircuits in the future.- Oh my, don't do this!\n"
