**Philips 32" x 9 Super Ultra Wide Monitor Review**
The Philips 32" x 9 Super Ultra Wide monitor is a beast of a device, with its sheer scale being the headline feature. The monitor boasts a massive 64-inch screen real estate, making it perfect for multitasking and immersive gaming experiences. But that's not all - this monitor also comes equipped with a recessed secret web cam, allowing users to record video or stream live without having to pull out their camera.
**The Secret Web Cam**
Located at the top of the monitor, the 2.1 megapixel camera can shoot Full HD video and is ideal for recording content directly from the monitor. The placement is spot-on, looking straight into the user's eyes for a more natural recording experience. However, the quality of the camera is a bit ropey, with noticeable noise in low-light conditions. Additionally, there are no options to adjust the exposure or brightness, which might be a drawback for some users.
**Design and Build**
The Philips 32" x 9 Super Ultra Wide monitor has a clean and futuristic design, with a brushed metal effect fascia and slim bezels that make it look almost like a piece of art. The stand is meaty and sturdy, clearly designed to support the weight of this massive device. However, there's one major issue - the stand doesn't fit properly on desks with smaller surfaces, which might be a problem for users who want to mount their monitor securely.
**Gaming Performance**
While the Philips 32" x 9 Super Ultra Wide monitor is primarily marketed as a multitasking device, it also delivers impressive gaming performance. The monitor features adaptive sync / DisplayPort technology, which provides variable refresh rates and reduces screen tearing in games. However, some users may experience screen tearing in certain titles like Battlefield 5 - but overall, the monitor handles most modern games with ease.
**Menu and Content Issues**
One of the biggest drawbacks of this monitor is its handling of menus and cutscenes, which are often displayed at 16:9 aspect ratio. This means that you'll get bigger black bars on either side of the screen, making it less immersive for gaming and video content. Additionally, the on-screen display can be controlled using buttons - but I personally prefer monitors with joysticks for a more intuitive experience.
**Port Options and Connectivity**
The Philips 32" x 9 Super Ultra Wide monitor has an impressive array of ports along its back, including HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C. The monitor also supports USB-A and USB-C docking stations, making it easy to connect your laptop or other devices. However, be aware that the ports don't continue to supply power when the monitor is turned off or in sleep mode - so make sure you have a reliable power source nearby.
**Competition**
The Philips 32" x 9 Super Ultra Wide monitor faces stiff competition from several other manufacturers, including Samsung, Dell, and LG. Samsung's CHD90s ooh C's XG 49 VQ box tricks offer similar specs at a lower price point, while Dell's Youth 49:19 DW+ offers faster refresh rates but is also pricier. Meanwhile, LG will soon be releasing its own super ultra-wide monitor, which could give Philips a run for its money.
**Conclusion**
In conclusion, the Philips 32" x 9 Super Ultra Wide monitor is an impressive device that delivers on its promise of massive screen real estate and immersive gaming experiences. While it has some drawbacks, including issues with stand placement and menu handling, overall I'm very impressed with this monitor's performance and features. If you're looking for a multitasking beast or want to experience the thrill of ultra-wide gaming - this might be the perfect device for you. Just make sure you have enough desk space and consider the competition before making a purchase decision.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys i'm tom the tech job and i remember when I got my first ultrawide monitor I was kind of blown away by how much extra space you get that sort of immersive wraparound gaming experience or when I'm editing in the timeline and Premiere Pro all this extra space so this 38 inch ultra white is already pretty huge but I want to take things to the next level inside this giant box is a 49 inch super white monitor it's the Philips brilliance for 99p 949 inch 32 by 9 super wide monitor is it gonna fit let's see what happens small hiccup we're trying this huge thing actually putting it on this massive stand the screw placement is misaligned you can see there it's not lined up which means he will not tighten up I'm just gonna have to be very careful with this leave it sort of hooked in but not screwed in I will report this back to Phillips and fingers crossed this is just an issue with my particular one here and not a widespread issue so if a normal 16 by 9 monitor gives you about that much space on here an ultra-wide goes to about here that adds about 30% extra screen space well just look at the size of this 32 by 9 super ultra wide and with a resolution of 50 120 by 1440 and this 49 inch screen size you're essentially getting to 27 inch quad HD monitors side by side and of course unlike a traditional dual monitor setup there's no big fat bezel in the middle that you have to you know put extra cables in and it looks ugly this is just one beautiful seamless experience and those among you who are thinking wait a minute on quick maths to 27 inch monitors doesn't equate to 49 inches that should be 52 well remember the screen is measured diagonally and because of this 32.9 aspect it's a little bit shallower than a 16 by 9 so that's why it's different you are still essentially getting to 27 inch quad HD monitors side-by-side so you could fill up the entire screen with one big premiere pro tab like this or maybe you could put it side-by-side with another one like that or even open up a whole bunch of other ones and have maybe five or six tabs side-by-side and just really take advantage of all that extra space so obviously the sheer scale of this thing is the headline feature but this monitor does have another trick up its sleeve in the form of a recessed secret web cam use press into the top pull it down it's a 2.1 megapixel camera it can shoot Full HD video which is why I'm recording this act right now and what the placement is ideal it's on top of the monitor it's looking straight into my eyes that's great the quality is a bit ropey if I'm honest it's noisy evening there's good light around me but at least you have the option and if you want worried about security you can always just push it back into the monitor to my eye the Philips is a smart looking monitor it's got a clean overall look that actually looks a bit futuristic and with slim bezels a brushed metal effect fascia and a seriously meaty stand that clearly means business it's a nice overall look so it's clearly a multitasking beast I didn't think I'd be actually switching from my 38 inch lg ultra wide which has been my go-to monitor for over a year but after using this for a few days I actually think I might mostly it's because I appreciate the productivity potential with that extra screen space and also that more immersive gaming experience I like the fairly gentle curve of the screen which wraps around you just a little bit so you don't feel too far away from the corners of the screen it has pretty good response times its color accurate and while the brightness was fairly average it can be increased when using the HDR 400 mode it's great to see HDR featured here but it is only the entry spec type now this isn't obviously a monitor primarily aimed at gamers given the steep price and with a refresh rate that tops out at 70 Hertz that said you get such a wide viewing game's you really feel involved and wrapped up in the action the Philips also benefits from adaptive sync / DisplayPort which is a variable refresh rate technology that similar to AMD freesync and is supported on both recent Nvidia and AMD graphics cards this means smoother motion and less latency in games so actually it works pretty well for gaming having said all that I did experience some pretty bad screen tearing in battlefield 5 however I got a very smooth experience with Apex legends metro Exodus and some others so it doesn't seem to be a big problem so a lot of games do now work well with ultra wide but it's gonna take a little bit longer for super ultra wide support to catch up menus and cutscenes are often displayed at sixteen by nine meaning that you get even bigger black bars either side of the screen it's got a great range of ports which are all located along the back plus you can plug in your laptop to the Philips using a USB 3.1 type-c cable if your laptop supports it it can also act as a docking station where you can plug in a keyboard and mouse set on a cable an external storage which is great news if your laptop is limited on ports and the built-in KVM switch means you can actually use two computers plugged in to monitor at the same time with one set of peripherals okay that downsides well the on-screen display is controlled using buttons I much prefer monitors that use a joystick find that much easier to use also bear in mind that the ports don't continue to supply power if the screen is off or in sleep mode so it won't continue to charge a connected laptop but it's not being able to mount it securely to the stand that's my biggest problem but what about competition I previously tested the Samsung CJ 89 43 and 49 inch monitors effectively are getting to full HD monitors side by side but it does have a faster 120 Hertz refresh rate and are considerably cheaper Dell have a direct rival to this Philips in the form of the Youth 49:19 DW plus LG will soon be entering the ring with the 49 WL 95 C which also has a similar spec and if it's a gaming focused super ultra wide you're after then Samsung's CHD 90s ooh C's XG 49 VQ box tricks and the new AC i-49 1 CR are your best options so overall then I'm a big fan of the Philips 32 by 9 super ultra wide it is huge and not everyone's gonna have a desk big enough but if you're using lots of programs or tabs side by side then that extra screen space does come in handy it is a bit disappointing the stand didn't fit properly but overall I am still very impressed with this thank you so much for watching guys
