I bought a BROKEN BUGATTI VEYRON! My first million dollar hooptie

The Financial Burden of Luxury: My Experience with the Bugatti Veyron

Three years ago, I purchased the Bugatti Veyron, which was then the most expensive car I had ever bought. The price tag was a staggering $15,000, but despite its initial cost, I considered it a safe investment due to its potential for long-term appreciation in value. However, as I delved deeper into the world of high-end vehicles, I realized that owning a luxury car like the Veyron comes with significant financial burdens.

The depreciation costs associated with luxury cars can be crippling. For instance, if I had purchased a $700,000 Ferrari SF90 and put down $150,000, I would have lost all that money in depreciation. This is why I try to approach buying expensive cars with caution, as the potential for significant losses is always present.

Despite my efforts to avoid financial pitfalls, I was able to enjoy the Veyron for three years without losing any significant amount of money. However, trading it in recently presented a unique opportunity for me. The sales tax savings on this particular trade-in were substantial, with $150,000 in rebates due to the initial purchase price. Additionally, the situation with the Bugatti and Chicago Motorcars made things particularly interesting.

Chicago Motorcars' owner, specifically Perin, was willing to offer more than usual on a trade-in, as he had another car that needed urgent attention. The McLaren W was an aged unit in need of repair, which allowed him to sweeten the deal for me. However, when the P1 hypercar arrived with its own pressing issues – requiring a six-figure battery replacement – the situation became even more complex.

Perin was upfront about the Veyron's condition and the tens of thousands of dollars worth of work needed to bring it up to snuff. This honesty made sense for him, as he wanted to avoid taking on unnecessary expenses while still making a profit from the trade-in. The deal ultimately worked out in his favor, with me receiving more than usual for the trade-in.

This experience highlights the complexities involved when buying and selling luxury cars. The sales tax savings on this particular trade-in were significant, with $150,000 rebates due to the initial purchase price. Additionally, the unique situation with Chicago Motorcars allowed us to structure a deal that benefited both parties. While I walked away with an incredible new car, Perin was able to secure two good trades that he could retail and profit from.

The Emotional Connection: Saying Goodbye to the Veyron

Buying this car was a dream come true for me. As a child, I remember seeing the Bugatti Veyron featured in James Bond films, particularly in the scene where it gets sliced in half. The car's sleek design and performance capabilities captivated me, and I couldn't wait to get behind the wheel.

Completing the BMW Dream Team with the Z8

One of the most enjoyable aspects of owning the Veyron is completing the BMW dream team. In 2001, I purchased a complete lineup of BMW models – X5, Z3, and this Z8 – all in the same James Bond-inspired silver color. This was the pinnacle of BMW's production, with each car representing the epitome of performance, style, and engineering prowess.

The Z8 is the final piece of this puzzle, and I'm grateful to have kept it for as long as I did. Now, as I prepare to part ways with this incredible machine, I must admit that I'll miss it dearly. The first time I drive the Bugatti home will likely be met with a mix of emotions – excitement, pride, and perhaps a hint of anxiety.

The Future: A New World of Automotive Challenges

As I embark on this new chapter with my Bugatti Veyron, I'm acutely aware that owning such an exotic vehicle comes with unique challenges. From the constant need to maintain its performance and appearance to the inevitable costs associated with owning a car like this, I've taken a calculated risk.

The first check engine light will likely be a source of anxiety for me, as it signals the start of a new chapter in my life as a Bugatti owner. However, I'm determined to approach this journey with courage and humility, knowing that I'll need to navigate uncharted territories as I explore the world of luxury automotive ownership.

A Special Thank You

I'd like to extend my sincerest gratitude to Chicago Motorcars for making this experience possible. From their willingness to work with me on the trade-in deal to their upfront honesty about the Veyron's condition, it's been an absolute pleasure working with them. I'm confident that our paths will cross again in the future, and I look forward to seeing what exciting opportunities lie ahead.

In conclusion, buying a Bugatti Veyron is a dream come true for many car enthusiasts. However, as I've discovered through my own experiences, owning such an exotic vehicle comes with significant financial burdens and unique challenges. As I embark on this new chapter in my life as a Bugatti owner, I'm eager to face these challenges head-on, knowing that it's all worth it for the thrill of driving one of the world's most incredible machines.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthanks to build your store for sponsoring today's video but I really want to hear that uh w16 engine so let's uh plug in some of these bits and he it run I'm hoping this is the right plug I'm guessing that it is it's the only one that fits we'll see okay key on I have to hold this thing sort of up there we go start button have a hoopy Bugatti welcome to hooie garage the dumbest Automotive channel in all of YouTube and this is a broken 2008 Bugatti Veyron and I can't believe I'm saying this but it is my Bugatti Veyron I am Bugatti man and uh this is the reason why it is very very broken and why this car has been in service for over a year but everybody knows the Bugatti Veyron it was the car of the 2000s the fastest car in the world 253 mph at top speed it'll breathe more air in a minute than a human would Breathe In years and at top speed it goes through a full tank of fuel in 12 minutes everybody memorized those facts back when they came out in 20056 almost 20 years ago I never imagined I would own one of these they cost $1.5 million new and uh I never thought I could afford one I still probably can't afford one I'm the poorest Bugatti owner in the world by a lot I imagine a zero but uh this car even though it is in pieces is mine I still can't believe I'm saying this is my vti the heritage of these cars is unreal born in the 1920s and that group is sort of a tribute to it and they actually have a vintage Bugatti here along with a lot of other amazing cars here in Bugatti service but this one in an amazing spec Bugatti racing blue two-tone blue and black and it does have aftermarket wheels on it which is sort of a necessity if you actually want to use these things because the factor Wheels they had to be changed every 3,000 Mi or a couple of years the tires uh the wheels after three changes and they cost 50 $60,000 per set of tires so getting after markets is uh pretty much a necessity uh these hrees certainly show the massive carbon ceramic brakes on these and the huge huge calipers to get this thing to stop because it does have over 1,000 horsepower all of it sitting right here and you can't pop the hood on a Veyron you can see this is it it's all just exposed to the outside elements and if you want to pop the hood well the only thing you can do is take this panel off a massive amount of work and that's why the annual service on these cars is over $30,000 I'm in a whole new world of Automotive masochism that I never imagined myself being in but I will be buying a car eventually that's all surfaced up I'll talk about that in a little bit so you can see the big hips on this thing because it has massive holy crap massive rear tires there is the center exit exhaust but then there's uh two other pipes hidden on other side and the underbody arrow is just unreal as well all carbon fiber oh my God yeah one side is for the fuel filler the other side is to add or check oil so it does have fills on both sides but you can't fill up on either side I can't believe this thing's mine and then all this ducting it's all functional the air intakes on top all the cooling because this car does have 10 radiators w16 in with four turbos and that's how it gets almost 1,000 horsepower and gets to that 253 mph top speed now this one has had one other modification other than the wheels it has the modern vitess headlights the old ones come with it but they do look fantastic it does have a full ppf on it that does have some debris because uh it was on the Gold Rush rally last year and I guess it got broken on the first day because a rock got into the radiator so only made it one day but that's been fixed the big issue is right here waiting on parts no reverse so it's been a journey with this car initially they thought it was the transmission that had broken on it and uh they replac the transmission it still wouldn't go into gear and to remove the transmission well the whole car basically get split in half completely taken apart like literally chopped down the center over $100,000 but they did that and discovered uh that wasn't it it's actually the shifter the shifter was on back order and that's where we're at right now so you go inside this thing has had its interior redone it looks really nice though it was originally sort of a dark brown but now it's a Bugatti racing blue in here does look very very pretty uh but you can see it's U missing some stuff so for them to move it around they actually put the old shifter back in in um yeah so this this is the old shifter and it is not going into reverse which for reverse you have to go to neutral and then back and it's not detecting that drive you go this way and park you push the button right here uh but uh yeah that part isn't working now the problem is we have the new shifter right here I don't even know how much this cost but there's the Bugatti sticker and it needs to go on but in order for them to get it on they have to take this this handle off and it's it is totally absorbed in the stone uh like when they reupholstered it they glued it back on and there's a special tool that they're borrowing from another Bugatti store uh to get it off because it's not coming otherwise i''d be driving this thing home right now uh so that is the unfortunate issue and why it's all taken apart right now it kind of gives you a view deep into the world of the Veyron though you have vents here but also vents surrounding all the way and the amazing thing about this car the fastest car in the world 253 mph but it is a luxury Cruiser at the same time way over the top on the materials all the modern Comforts and yeah back there you have that amazing W6 engine this is this is totally crazy so starting procedure would be putting in the key and hitting the start button down here but there's no start button cuz it's it's on this it's on the center console with the climate control with the stereo with the clock and that's all disconnected cuz they're obviously going to replace the shifter a current mileage 11,024 I can turn the key all I want it won't start I can't change the modes to uh deploy the flaps and show you all of that it's it's very mad right now but I will start it in a little bit I just need to uh plug in that start button and then we can go but have to keep in mind we have no reverse now Bugatti is owned by Audi Volkswagen so the connectors definitely look like Audi Volkswagen on this thing but they've done a great job of hiding all of it under some very very high quality stuff there's nothing here that looks generic that belongs to another car I think literally everything is bespoken has its own uh Bugatti sticker on it I don't think there's much if any shared Parts maybe some spark plugs and ignition coils something like that but uh yeah not much yeah the glove box oh that's so so pretty oh there's the uh clock adjustment right there but since the clock's unplugged it probably doesn't do anything little flaps all around like I said this is very much a luxury high-speed Cruiser as much as it is a total top speed Legend but I really want to hear that uh w16 engine so let's uh plug in some of these bits and hear it run but before we get things running thanks to build your store for sponsoring today's video starting an online business has never been easier with no seems to be going in gear listen to that noise okay it's blowing full blast on the climate control but I I I can't turn it off it's not plugged in all right let me uh drive my Bugatti for the first time here here we go we're cruising that's awesome but I I can't go any further than this because I'll get in a situation where I need reverse and it won't go in reverse so that's it that's that's my first drive in my Bugatti Veyron how awesome is that okay let's see will this rest comfortably okay now I got to push it back a car that I just paid more money than my house for there we go oh these Veyrons weigh 4,000 lb oh oh and I always Skip Leg Day so this isn't good for me all right let's hit the Elmo too or that nice Bentley so to buy this thing I did have to sell a couple of my cars so I'm going to tell you about one of them I'm selling back at hoovie's garage in Kansas and hopefully in a week or so I can come pick this beauty up oh bye honey okay all right back in Witchita and I'm still riding high from that hoopti Bugatti experience and I can't believe still can't can't believe the car is mine and the only reason it is is because you all watch my videos and have been following for years to the point where I have all these hoopties behind me this incredible garage and now a Bugatti Veyron so thank you thank you so much and if you're new to HUB garage please hit the Subscribe button because there's going to be a lot of fun Veyron content coming up but to buy the Veyron I did have to make some sacrifices and one of them was trading this in towards it my 2002 BM wz8 which shouldn't be a surprise to anybody because I talked about selling it a couple of months ago where I came to the conclusion that I just wasn't going to drive and enjoy this car as much considering other cars in the fleet if I want a convertible which this one has the hard top on it now I drive the SLR McLaren it's an amazing experience if I want a manual transmission car I drive my converted Ferrari 599 for the ultimate gated Enzo V12 powered uh manual transmission experience so this car sat a lot and now that I moved into the new garage it continues to sit but it does give me pause because I did put the hard top on it because it's being shipped out soon in a few days and with the hard top on I've never seen it uh with the Alpena Wheels this hard top hasn't been on in 3 years and it's well it is probably the prettiest car that I have in the entire hoopti fleet but it's not just a gorgeous car to look at it has that BMW mowed engine under the hood naturally aspirated around 400 horsepower a six-speed manual transmission from The Glory Days of BM BMW that feels like butter all in an aluminum chassis that feels light and Nimble but also it is a very comfortable Grand Touring Car at the same time it is really the perfect car in the styling of Henrik Fisker doing that retro throwback with the BMW 507 it's just a home run and that's why I've dragged my feet a little bit on selling it but now there's a very good reason to do so with the Bugatti so I'll go more into the financials of the Veyron in a future video because the maintenance and the price of it it's just absolutely staggering but 3 years ago this was the most expensive car that I ever purchased it cost $15,000 and it seemed like a pretty safe car to buy and own for a long period of time even though it's expensive and it wouldn't depreciate if I bought like a $700,000 Ferrari sf90 and put $150,000 down then I would have lost all that money in depreciation so even though I love losing money on the hoopties the Jeep cars and doing goofy stuff with them when I buy something nice I try not to be a complete because I would be bankrupt in very short order so in three years I was able to enjoy drive this car own it and really not lose any money but the reason for trading it in just in general the sales tax savings that $150,000 I get back because I had to pay sales tax when I bought it but also the situation with the Bugatti made things kind of unique and I have to give a shout out to Chicago Motorcars perin the owner specifically for being upfront with all of this but he had a McLaren W I believe that he was selling and from what I understand it was an aged unit that he wanted to move along so when somebody wanted to trade in a Veyron towards it uh he was happy to over allow offer more on the trade than he normally would to get the deal done but then he got stuck on both ends unfortunately because the P1 famous hyper car needed a battery a six-figure repair there so he had to do that and then the Veyron showed up needing a lot of work as you saw at the Bugatti dealer in Chicago tens of thousands of dollars worth of work so he was deep in the car and once again he was very upfront with me about this and the best scenario for him was to get some good tradein and pay up for the trades and then make his money back that way and not show a loss selling it outright so this and one other car are going to him and the over allowance on those trades structured the deal well for him and saved me a lot in taxes trading these two cars in the other one especially so this Z8 and the other car Sav me a lot in sales tax but also a lot in capital gains tax because these cars are worth a little bit more in one case a lot more than what I paid for it so it all made sense everybody was happy although if we do Ed bullion math with what I had in the cars that I was trading in it will be the cheapest Bugatti sale in a very very long time so everybody should be happy I get a hoopti Bugatti that will be fixed on someone else's dime a massive Bill there and I'll be able to drive it home and Chicago mot cars will be able to get two very good trades that they can retail and uh make some money but saying goodbye to this thing is not going to be easy guess I'll take it on one last Drive buying this car really was a dream come true ever since seeing it when I was a kid in the James Bond film where it gets sliced in half even though didn't have much driving I thought it was the prettiest car ever uh but the prices just seem so high on them new and people were buying z3s and said these weren't a big sale success and not many were sold about 7,000 which for a large production vehicle that's not very good but obviously history has judged these cars differently and now they sell for well over the original MSRP if they're a unique color and very low mileage this one has pretty low mileage at 38,000 Mi but it is the James Bond silver the most popular color but the most fun part of owning this Z8 for sure is completing the BMW dream team with it the complete BMW lineup in 2001 when I think BMW peaked 357 X5 Z3 and this all in the same color and I own them all for a brief period of time and this is the last one this is the only one I kept of that entire bunch and now it's going so one last romp wow just it's spectacular I'm I'm probably going to regret this I won't be regretting it when I drive the Bugatti home but uh I will probably the first time that check engine light comes on and nobody here wants to fix it anyway I'm in a whole new world now and thank you again so much for watching and making this possible it is the highest level of Automotive masochism I think what I just bought the Bugatti Veyron and a whole new world for me being the world's poorest Bugatti owner thank you again so much for watchingthanks to build your store for sponsoring today's video but I really want to hear that uh w16 engine so let's uh plug in some of these bits and he it the situation with the Bugatti made things kind of unique and I have to give a shout out to Chicago Motorcars perin the owner specifically for being upfront with all of this but he had a McLaren W I believe that he was selling and from what I understand it was an aged unit that he wanted to move along so when somebody wanted to trade in a Veyron towards it uh he was happy to over allow offer more on the trade than he normally would to get the deal done but then he got stuck on both ends unfortunately because the P1 famous hyper car needed a battery a six-figure repair there so he had to do that and then the Veyron showed up needing a lot of work as you saw at the Bugatti dealer in Chicago tens of thousands of dollars worth of work so he was deep in the car and once again he was very upfront with me about this and the best scenario for him was to get some good tradein and pay up for the trades and then make his money back that way and not show a loss selling it outright so this and one other car are going to him and the over allowance on those trades structured the deal well for him and saved me a lot in taxes trading these two cars in the other one especially so this Z8 and the other car Sav me a lot in sales tax but also a lot in capital gains tax because these cars are worth a little bit more in one case a lot more than what I paid for it so it all made sense everybody was happy although if we do Ed bullion math with what I had in the cars that I was trading in it will be the cheapest Bugatti sale in a very very long time so everybody should be happy I get a hoopti Bugatti that will be fixed on someone else's dime a massive Bill there and I'll be able to drive it home and Chicago mot cars will be able to get two very good trades that they can retail and uh make some money but saying goodbye to this thing is not going to be easy guess I'll take it on one last Drive buying this car really was a dream come true ever since seeing it when I was a kid in the James Bond film where it gets sliced in half even though didn't have much driving I thought it was the prettiest car ever uh but the prices just seem so high on them new and people were buying z3s and said these weren't a big sale success and not many were sold about 7,000 which for a large production vehicle that's not very good but obviously history has judged these cars differently and now they sell for well over the original MSRP if they're a unique color and very low mileage this one has pretty low mileage at 38,000 Mi but it is the James Bond silver the most popular color but the most fun part of owning this Z8 for sure is completing the BMW dream team with it the complete BMW lineup in 2001 when I think BMW peaked 357 X5 Z3 and this all in the same color and I own them all for a brief period of time and this is the last one this is the only one I kept of that entire bunch and now it's going so one last romp wow just it's spectacular I'm I'm probably going to regret this I won't be regretting it when I drive the Bugatti home but uh I will probably the first time that check engine light comes on and nobody here wants to fix it anyway I'm in a whole new world now and thank you again so much for watching and making this possible it is the highest level of Automotive masochism I think what I just bought the Bugatti Veyron and a whole new world for me being the world's poorest Bugatti owner thank you again so much for watching\n"
