10 Genius Nail Polish Hacks to Try This Weekend - HGTV Handmade

Ten Ways You Can Use Your Clear Nail Polish: A Handy Hack Guide

Hey y'all, I'm Joe with HGTV handmade and happy hack day this year we're changing it up and we're trying a few new things and one of the ways we wanted to do that was bring you some different videos on things you can do with things you already have around the house. First, what I'm gonna start with is ten ways you can use your clear nail polish instead of just using it on your fingertips.

One solution I found for my three-year-old tear who runs around like a hot mess show is that her shoelaces' little plastic tabs fall off after every step. To fix this, I brush in with clear nail polish, rolling my fingers between it and letting it dry, and there's good as new she's cleared for takeoff. Another solution is to make cute garden markers by painting words on small stones or sticks, but once the first rain comes, all my words wash away. So, I realized that putting a top coat of clear nail polish on them would keep them looking great all summer long.

For me, having a screw loose was a constant problem when I wear my glasses on top of my head over time it loosens the screws. A solution to this is to put a dab of clear nail polish on top of each screw to prevent it from happening again. Another cool hack is to brush it on the threads of a screw to hold it in place for furniture and walls.

If you have shaving cream that always leaves brush strings in the bottom of your subway tile shower, one way to stop this from happening is to brush the bottoms of metal pans with a coat of clear nail polish before setting them right side up. I also wanted to share with you an awesome April Fool's joke - let it dry upside down.

For those who enjoy making their own DIY home cleaners and eco-friendly cleaning supplies, one problem that came up was when my labels started falling off my bottle because they weren't sealed properly. But, if you brush a coat of clear polish across the label, it will stop the words from smearing and bonus it'll keep your label stuck on the bottle.

Lastly, I have super expensive taste in jewelry and buy my rings at big box stores, which sometimes turn my fingers green. If this happens to you too, you can prevent that ugly green finger by brushing the insides of your costume jewelry with a thin layer of clear nail polish.

If you found out about any other hacks that helped you, please let me know in the comments below and share them with everyone else. One thing that might be less known is how clear nail polish can help prevent buttons from coming loose after they've broken. Instead of resewing the button, you can brush a coat of polish across the threads to stop them from unraveling.

I also wanted to share with you one of my favorite hacks - using clear nail polish to waterproof a match. I didn't really know if it would work at first, but after trying it out, I was amazed by how well it worked and now I'm hooked on using this trick for all my matches too.
