Cleaning Shoes

**Protecting and Cleaning Your Sneakers**

When it comes to protecting and cleaning your sneakers, there are several steps you can take to keep them looking their best. One thing you want to consider is using baking soda to absorb odors. If it's summer, for example, your shoes may start to smell due to the heat and humidity. Simply sprinkle some baking soda into your shoe and let it sit overnight before shaking it out. The baking soda will help neutralize any unpleasant odors, leaving your shoe smelling fresh and clean.

If you're looking for a more natural alternative to traditional shoe cleaners, there's a product called Odor Out that uses 100% zeolite crystals to absorb and eliminate odors. Simply sprinkle the crystals into your shoe, leave it overnight, and shake it out before wearing. This natural and gentle method is perfect for those who prefer to avoid harsh chemicals.

**Cleaning Canvas Sneakers**

Canvas sneakers can be a bit more delicate than other types of shoes, but they're still easy to clean with the right techniques. One way to start is by having some water and automatic dishwasher detergent on hand. You'll also want to have a little brush or toothbrush to help get into tight spaces. Dip your brush into the water, then add a small amount of dishwasher detergent and work it into the soiled areas of the shoe. Be sure to focus on areas like the toe and heel, where dirt and grime tend to accumulate.

Let the mixture sit for 15-30 minutes, or even up to an hour if you're short on time. After that, you can wash out the soap with warm water or toss the shoes in the washing machine with a few towels to provide some abrasion. Arrange the shoes so that the tongues are facing upwards and let them air dry outside of direct sunlight.

**Tips for Cleaning Canvas Sneakers**

One tip for cleaning canvas sneakers is to use a little trick to prevent brown rings from forming on the leather: use spray starch or sizing after you've dried your shoes. This will help protect the leather from staining and make it easier to clean in the future.

If you're looking for an alternative way to clean canvas sneakers, you can also try washing them in the washing machine. Just be sure to use a gentle cycle and plenty of towels to provide some abrasion. One thing to note is that if you wash your shoes too frequently, they may become over-soaked and lose their shape.

**Using Bleach on White Shoes**

When it comes to cleaning white shoes, bleach can be a powerful tool. But be careful: bleach can be very harsh on surfaces, so make sure to take precautions when using it. One way to use bleach safely is by spraying it directly onto the stain or area you want to clean, then rinsing it off with plenty of water.

One thing to note is that bleach can leave behind white footprints if not properly rinsed. To avoid this, be sure to soak the shoes in a bucket of water before and after cleaning them. You can also try using a whitening agent like OxiClean instead of bleach for a gentler cleaning method.

**Dyeing Scuffed Shoes**

If you have scuffed up shoes, don't worry – there's an easy way to fix them without having to pay a shoemaker. One trick is to use a permanent marker to dye over the scuff, then apply your favorite shoe polish on top. This will not only cover up the scuff but also give your shoes a fresh new look.

Another tip for protecting and cleaning your sneakers is to stretch out the toe box using a plastic bag. Simply fill a small plastic bag with water, zip it shut, and put it in the freezer for 24-48 hours. Then, take the bag out and use it as a homemade shoe stretcher. This will help loosen up tight areas like the toes, making your shoes feel more comfortable from day one.

**Quick Shine**

Finally, if you want to add a quick shine to your sneakers without using any harsh chemicals, try using a little petroleum jelly or furniture polish. Simply apply the product to the leather, rub it in with a soft cloth, and buff out any excess with a clean rag. This will give your shoes a nice sheen and protect the leather from further damage.

By following these tips and techniques, you can keep your sneakers looking their best for months to come. Whether you're using baking soda, Odor Out, or bleach, there are plenty of natural and gentle methods available for protecting and cleaning your footwear.

dishwasher detergent we're going to squirt it on and work it into the soiled areas on the shoe and a lot of times that's around the toe and back around the heel so make sure you get it both places
