evo Track Evening in association with Sky Insurance - Porsche 911 SC

The Second Evo Track Evening of 2015: A Look Back at an Unforgettable Event

This was the second Evo track evening of 2015, held in partnership with our friends from Sky Insurance, the performance C Insurance Specialists. What an event it was! Cars present included Evo's own fast Fleet Audi S1, Nissan GTR, Porsche GT3, Renault Manan Trophy, and a full range of hot hatches and much more. If you like the older stuff, why don't you join me for a lap in my very own Porsche 911 SC?

Last time Henry Catchpole did a tour of this circuit at Bedford in a 991 GT3, now we have a considerably older, considerably slower 911 but it's also my 911, my very own 3L SC. These cars are now 198 to good value; they're easy to underestimate due to their relatively low horsepower. But despite not having a huge amount of power, these cars are very lightweight. We've had this one on the scales at Evo around 1100 kilos, which is actually less than expected. It's also worth noting that steering feel was a key focus in our discussion with EVO.

The car I'm driving today is an older model Porsche 911 SC, and it's got about 215 horsepower. This may not seem like a lot of power compared to some of the other cars on the track, but this is no ordinary 911. It's also light, which makes all the difference when it comes to handling on the circuit. The steering feel in this car is excellent, and I think that's something we focus on with EVO.

One of the great benefits of having a lightweight car like this one is that the brakes are excellent. I've had this car on the track a few times before, and I can honestly say that I've never experienced any brake fade. This is due to the 915 gearbox, which was replaced in the mid-80s by a more accurate gear box. While it's got a very long throw, I find it to be okay and even enjoyable.

When you're driving a car like this one, you have to learn how to work with it. You can't just rely on the electronics or the engine; you have to feel every inch of the track. That's why I love the sound of the exhaust note as I accelerate through the corners. It's music to my ears! The transitions in this car are smooth, and when I shift gears, the "bark" is unmistakable.

As we drive around the circuit, I can feel the power coming out from under the bonnet. This 911 may not be the fastest car on the track, but it's certainly one of the most rewarding to drive. And that's what makes this event so special – it's all about the joy of driving these incredible cars.

The second Evo track evening of 2015 was just the beginning of an exciting weekend of motorsport action. With Sky insurance as our partner, we were able to bring together some of the fastest and most fascinating cars on the planet. And now, we're down to our final two track evenings of the year – one of which is taking place on July 10th.

If you want to experience the thrill of driving some of these incredible machines for yourself, be sure to check out the details below. We can't wait to see you on the track!
