Windows 10 How to get ONLY Security updates every month set metered connection

Welcome to the Windows and Computer Channel, where we'll talk about updates here, specifically Windows updates. I've mentioned this trick before, but I'd like to revisit it for some of our viewers who may have missed it.

When we get near a new feature update, and you know we also get each month some bug fixing updates that are optional. A lot of people are always thinking, "My PC goes fine, my PC works fine, I don't really want to have those." Keep in mind that every version of Windows is 18 months, so that means that depending on the version of Windows you're at, at some point you will have to move on. But you can wait till the last minute if you wish to do so.

There's a way to do so with metered connections. What that does is keep the security updates coming in, so metered connection won't prevent security updates and anything that is a mandatory update basically. But it will prevent any updates that are bug fixing updates. It will prevent feature updates, so new versions of Windows if you don't want to move on right now from actually getting to your computer.

The reason why that works is that a metered connection kind of simulates the fact that you have a very limited internet bandwidth every month and that data cap to make sure that it you don't go over it. They will actually have the metered connection set so that the minimum amount of updates actually go through not to take too much internet, um, data every month.

So how do you do that? You simply go to your connection, there's an icon in the bottom of your screen on the bottom right which shows you which types of connection you have. So it's either Wi-Fi or maybe you're connected with a Ethernet cable. You can click here and go into Network and Internet settings. You can also go to the Settings app directly and go into your Network and Internet here. You will see your connection, it will show up here, it will tell you which connection you have and the data that you use and so on.

You want to go into Properties, and here you'll have metered connection set this at on. And all you will have is security updates every month only security updates every month. You won't have anything else show up because they are not mandatory. But remember that every 18 months a version needs to be upgraded to a new version, so you will have eventually to move on if you want to continue getting security updates.

But as long as you're in a supported version, you are able to just get security updates when you do this. So just set it as a metered connection and all you'll get is security updates nothing else. If you enjoy our videos, please subscribe give us thumbs up, thank you for watching.
