Beelink X45 & X55 Mini PC Unboxing & In-Depth Review
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys Chris here back with the GeminiLake mini pcs that have been released byBeelink recently so we have the X45 andthis is the X45 premium model which has6 gigabytes of RAM the Intel Celeron J4105 with a maximum turbo 2.5 gigahertzthen we have this model here which isthe Beelink x 55 now the X 55 slightlymore powerful it has 8 gigabytes of RAMversus the 6 on this model double datarate for speakers well 128 gigabyte SSDin both of these models and they bothcan take a 2.5 inch SSD or hard drivethat's set a 3 spec so this one has thePentium silver J5005 with a maximumturbo of 2.8 gigahertz so there's thedifference between them we have more RAM300 megahertz slightly faster processoron this one 50 megahertz faster clock onthe GPU but their performance was veryvery similar almost identical apart fromjust slightly slower at this model herebut price-wise this is the one here togo for and the model I will be focusingon so use of a menu here which coversthe basic operation of it after servicesome sort of thing here if you aresatisfied or depressed I think they havebeen dissatisfied with the purchase soyou can call the support or whateversystem PC activation instructions orcheck of it is actually activated andthere it is so you can see it is veryvery small just a tiny little unit andin the Box on the top here which islabeled accessories in fact the wholething just comes right out so here wehave this is the plug for your 2.5 inchSSD or mechanical hard drive if youwanted to put like a huge one and thereyou could up to 4 terabytes I think youcan get them now a bracket here so thisis for the VESA mount if you wanted tomount it on the back of a TV or amonitor just to get it out of the waycompletely and here we have someextension cables here so this actuallyno that's our HDMI so we're on an HDMIcable with it and then another onehere which is even shorter so depends onwhat one you want to use to connect thatto your TV so that's why they I thinkthey've done that and good qualitycables as well by the looks of it plugson the end of them and the Europeancharger you can see here for its thiswill be what will be powering it sothat's 12 volts 2 amps which is prettystandard for the Gemini Lake and thenwe've just got some screws here so someof these here will be for the hard driveto mount it inside which I'll show youin just a minute and here for the VESAmount bracket and so here we have the X45 premium model which is my one sowe've got plastic on the top the baylink logo there Intel inside there's avent on the side so this is passivelycooled so it should not have any thermalthrottling but we will have a tinylittle bit of fan noise I will coverthat in this video as well microSD cardslot there on the right along the frontwe have a 3.5 when I'm in a headphonejack with microphone support the powerbutton and 2 USB 3 ports on the leftsome more events and like the Intelnukes that I looked at we have a verysimilar layout so two HDMI 2.0 spec oneshere so this is important so it's 4k 60Hertz we're not limited to only 30 Hertzanymore so you can run two monitorsGigabit LAN port another two USB 3 portsthere a dcn for power of course even aKensington lock slot which is great tohave on there and this is the exit venthere so the hot air will be coming outof the back of this now this is just forthose that want to fit it in a TVcabinet and perhaps you already havelike a DVD player or your PlayStationXbox or whatever it's got limited spaceso the height of it you can see here isjust over four centimeters and then thewidth of it this is around about 12centimeters so it is tiny so the backhere we've got four solid rubber feetand this has in fact where the screwsare so it will remove these now and I'llshow you the internals so the back is alittle hard to pry off because we've gotalloy against alloy so the whole outsideis made out of metal and the bookquality is rather decent not quite atthe same level as the Intel a littlemini pcs that I looked at so we pullthis off herewe can see here's our space now for thehard drive here so this is where you'llscrew it into placeand then you need to apply a course thatcable they gave you in the box to thatand then onto the motherboard so theinternals do look a little messy don'tnee because they've got the batterybackup here for this is for the bias toretain the seedings on there right thereand it's just stuck on with somedouble-sided 3m tape by the looks of itright here is our wireless chipset theyhave put some glue over the plugs therenow this is common a lot ofmanufacturers do do this and the reasonwhy they do it is so they don'taccidentally come off in transit sopeople will have problems with theirwireless here is the plug there for thesetter that you need to plug into andright there as the EM sorry no not MDOT- I'm so used to saying that the emsetter SSD 128 gigabytes depends on theversion you buy of course now underneaththat slot is space for one of those halfmini PCIe cards here so what you coulduse in that if you want to do is you canprobably put in then a wireless card soif you weren't happy with the IntelWireless 3165 wireless AC you want tosomething a little bit faster you canput it in here but of course then you'regoing to have to somehow and get rid ofthat glue and then plug in thoseantennas okay so I started here in thebuyers just wanted to show you a fewthings so the bias is completelyunlocked to us this is great a lot ofChinese manufacturers do do this thatmeans we can tweak a lot of settings andalso some that could get you in a littlebit of trouble and end up actuallybreaking the system so I recommend notmessing about with us if you don't knowwhat the setting actually does so theRAM speedit's 2133 megahertz we've got sixgigabytes worth and according to thechipset configuration here it is runningin dual channel alright so I've come tothe typical Windows setup menu see hereour language options were got EnglishGerman Spanish French Italian Chineseand Russian Windows activated withoutany problems it's the version 1709 sothis is not the latest build you willneed to run Windows Update to get thatright up to date to the latest redstone5 or 6 or everything is out now so the CDrive here if you take a look fromWindows when you first boot up you'vegot around a hundred andgigabytes free of course you can expandupon that and you can see right herethat I have actually installed a 500gigabyte 2.5 inch drive in there that'sgonna have my Steam games and few otherthings on that for the purposes of thisreview so the micro SD card slot it fitsin really nice and flushbut it's only running at USB to speed soit's not a super high speed oneunfortunately which is a bit of a shamethere now the speeds of that C Drive wehave that SSD I do not know the brand ofit but the speeds are good here you cansee for a set of three not quite thefastest but overall very decent we looknow at the device manager got real tickfor the LAN port there which is you gooBert Ethernet and then wireless AC thisis the 3165 a super common chipset andit's not the fastest so maximum speedsan FTP file transferred tests are justover 300 megabits per second they're nowlooking at a couple of syntheticbenchmarks so this is Geekbench for thesingle core score is close to 1800 andalmost 5400 there so this is on par withother devices many PCs that I've testedwith this processor very similar scoresare in fact to the in 4100 now the othermodel I have which is the Gemini Lake X45 sorry 55 that model gets right here2000 and almost 6000 so it is a littlebit faster but as mentioned at the startthere this is probably the model I feelthat most people will go for which iswhy I'm focusing more on this one hereso one more synthetic benchmark and thisis the pass mark rating here which isquite good but when you have a look atthe CPU mark yesit's out relatively low in fact very lowfor the type of system as expected hereand also wanted to comment at the startof the video while towards the starthere the temperatures because I knowthis interests a lot of people now fannoises to comment on it that it is veryquiet when it's on the lower sitting itseems to have two seatings so once theCPU reaches about 75 degrees it kicksinto what I think is 100 percent and youcan hear it but it's really not thatbothersomealso if you have this in a TV cabinet orsomething like that or even away fromyou you don't even really hear it andit's really only when it gets over 75degrees will you actually hear itbecause the low setting you don't hearanything so it does reach 91 degreesokay it's getting hot but it's nottriggering any thermal throttling Ibelieve that be linked have that set toprobably a hundred degrees or 105 whenit will actually trigger that or maybe95 it was probably because t-junctionmax will be a hundred and five so that'swhen it will put itself into sleep butit doesn't trigger it so that is okaybut yes it is getting a little bit hotbut the actual little mini PC itself noteven really getting warm just a littlebit on the bottom of it so we're lookingat a maximum power draw once you'regaming and using both the GPU in the CPUat 13 watts now from the wall you addabout 2 watts more so you're looking atabout a maximum power consumption ofthis little mini PC of about 15 wattsthe whole package the whole thing sothat is really good looking at thegeneral performance so I'm doing I wouldcall medium to light multitasking rightnow at the moment so I've got steam openChrome over and a few things now you donotice that the performance in Chrome ispretty good you see the animation theresometimes a little stutter e there andthat's partly cuz I'm running so much atthe moment so I haven't quite completelyfooled up the RAM I'll just show you nowand it's getting there it's about 70%almost full there so if I move over tomy website that is very smooth here inchrome the scrolling no real problemsnow this is very image heavy this siteand I'll just load up a page here andyou'll see that everything pops inreally quick so for these kind of lighttasks these little mini pcs are ideal soalso that covers office docks Excelthings like that which I have open atthe moment so here's an Excelspreadsheet this is relatively largethis one here so searching a databaselike verse it's gonna be fine your editsI've also loaded in a very heavy docfile here so this is 5 megabytes andthere's a huge amount of pages I meanit's still actually loading them and atthe moment so very heavy test for thisbut you can still go along and edit youcan see it's a little choppy so but it'sgo and remove some text hereyou can see the kind of speed to expectthere that it's not going to be superfast but bear in mind that it is just amassive file that I have open here sothe more you push it you do start to seethe the PC struggle a little bit thisGemini Lake process so they do havetheir limits remember this is not asuper powerful CP this is not a core i5so things like editing video you can'treally do it I mean you can hit it 1080pbasic edits there that is going to beokay but anything super demanding youwill run into problems now it also justtest out a couple of video files herefor some reason the windows video playerdoesn't want to play the jellyfish filehere so this is a very high bitrate andit's a 10 bit 4k HEV C codec which itnatively plays the hardware but for somereason that doesn't want to open it soI've got to use VLC player for that andyou see at the beginning there are a fewlittle stutters okay in even glitchesthere at the start but once it getsgoing it's actually alright justremember that again this is a verydemanding file that I'm testing here soit's great to see that there's how wecan even actually run it because you trythis on old generation Intel chips theywon't even be able to play it that willabsolutely struggle that and be like aslideshow Kodi performance it's goactually quite good it's probably evenbetter than VLC for some of the files soright now I'm looking at an externaldrive here so I've got my micro sd cardin here and what I'll do is just checkout that same video where I showed youso 140 megabits per second 4k file seehow Kody handles it and look at thedifference 60 frames per second so Kodycomes highly recommended for videoplayback of HEV C files because it'sjust no stutters no problems in thebeginning and a solid 60 frames persecond there as you can see so no issuesI have had some questions on Twitterthat people asking me I did post that Ihad this that I'm being testing it a lotof people are asking about 4k so with HDour 4k is working but no HDR it singsbecause I'm not getting that sittingeven though my TV I'm using at themoment does support it normally righthere under display you would see HDRoptions that you can actually enablethat I get that on my desktop PC with myHD are I set up I've got at home buthere you can't but it's running 4k 60Hertz but for the HDMI ports without anyproblems there so no issues there Ithink someone asked me well their unitthey had they had some issues but I'mnot encountering any problems with thatwhatsoever so 4k streaming I'm justgonna check out one of my own videoshere so I don't run into any copyrightproblems and we'll see how that runs sojust change that sitting over now to 4kand will enable the steps see if it'sgonna be dropping any frames so you cansee it's not actually dropping anyframes or just one there so that'skeeping up that's running fine so whathappens when I put this into fullscreenand it just dropped one frame there soreally good 4k performance out of thistiny little mini PC now if you fancy doa game on the side in 720pon the lowest settings this is CounterStrike and we're getting a playableframerate most of the time and steppingdown a little bit so you can see it runsaround 30 just over 30 scraping and ifyou lower the resolution down so if yougo with something like 800 x 600 whichdoesn't look wonderful at all that willboost the framerate up about 10 framesper second making a lot smoother but Ijust wanted to show you at 720p becauseit's what I tested on the other systemsand here we have legal agents so this isrunning in 1080p on the lowest sittingand the frame rate I mean that's okayaround 30 frames per second but I haveseen a lot higher here so the gamingperformance out of this B link X 45isn't really that great the X 55slightly better performance but again alittle disappointing as well not as fastas their Intel counterparts that I havetested now I did test out the Linux thisis one of the latest builds off here ofLinux Mint no problems what soeverything's working Internet is workingand it's running quite well theperformance so far I'm just been testinga few things out as expected so this isgood Linux support is there just makesure you of course using a latest buildwith the latest kernels okay so whatI've done now you can see the frame rateis right up there as I have increasedthe power limit and I've also changedthe thermals here so now we're gettingabout 40 frames per second which isgreat and it looks like I just died yepbut the performance you can see hasincreased dramatically so the frame rateis up but it still took it's down toabout 25 frames per second however we'vegot a new high of about 50 much morefluid much more playable in all thegames you test out there so you just gotto go in to the BIOS and increase thepower limits and then also tweak whenit's going to thermal straddles so justpump up from I think it's set at 60 topassively start to throttle you want tochange that to about 75 okay guys sooverall we have a very decent mini PChere the performance for your typicaloffice and light tasks is excellent it'sgood no problems with that whatsoeveryou cannot edit 4k videos you can't playcall of duty you can't play the latesttriple-a titles I mean that's obvious tomost people but some people do get alittle bit confused there so where itruns into a few little minor cons is thefact that the USB ports are upside downthat's been picky there's no microphoneon this at all so if you want cortanasupport you need to then plug in one ofthose tiny little 3.5inch minimally - sorry mics on to thefront of it so it's gonna be stickingout and it's just a little additionalcost there it's not ideal but at leastthere is a solution for that now whereit is disappointing as out of the boxthe gaming performance is a little bitcrippled due to perhaps the power limitsbut more where they have set it topassively throttle so through the buyerso you can see now with counter-strikethen playing here you can get verydecent frame rates now 720p on lowsettings and that is because I haveincreased the power limits and alsochanged when it will throttle so now theCPU is going to get a little bit hotterup to about 93 degrees you hear the fana little more but it has really openedup the performance so that's the onlyreal thing with this little meanie PCapart from that great performance greatlittle unit and you don't really hearthat fan much at all with that withnormal tasks so when you start to gamethen you hear the fan pick up a littlebit more but overall great little miniPC so if you're interested in thejuvenile aches the may be seized I'vegot a review here of Intel's and alsothe Alpha wise one right up here pleasecheck those out and I do hope to catchyou back in the channel with moreup-and-coming videos bye for now\n"
