homage no nomuch because eulogy thank you went togear VR at oc6 and he mentioned that hethought maybe a daydream pulled it off alittle bit better than gear VR I mean itdefinitely took somewhat form learn justthe ease of ease of inserting and yeahbut the controller and stuff was betterI think for a daydream to yeahI mean also on the problem on theAndroid side is that there's so manydifferent form factors for phones inscreen sizes and lenovo has that problemwith their Star Warsslash Marvell AR at set where you slotthe phone in it does the the combinerbecause you basically need to crop intothe slowest common denominator phonescreen which is knife own for them my myfavorite thing about thedream was that you could put thecontroller inside the inside the headsetstorage folded into the things he solike you always had it it was reallygoodback to pixel for the other feature isthe radar there call it motion sensethis is a thing we've heard about forliteral years like the patent was yearsago they bought a company that did thatthat came up with this technology rightyeah project project soli was theproject internally and where does it's ahemisphere the Richer creates ahemisphere of about what's the radiustwo feet in diameter okay not that bigbut enough that you can it can know whenyou're reaching for it and it can thendo predictive what you are you knowstart displaying stuff activates youknow things like the face on lock aheadof time before you grab the phone sothat extra you know half second secondof knowing your intention is topotentially grab it and use it that isuseful for making the kind of userexperience like an extension of yourintentions in mind yes and you can swipeabove it to go fast horsepowers go aheadand rewind your tracks when you'relistening to music mm-hmm I thephone faster yeah that's probably a goodthing I guess I don't know so only oneselfie camera now speaking of which onin terms of so they got rid of thewide-angle selfie camera the wide-angleit's 90 degree field of view and so it'sright in between the pixel three had 75and an 97 and so it's gonna be a littlewider one button to probably crop in asa default and kind of DoubleTap toexpand it one that makes I mean resolutegiven the resolution of those sensorsthat's probably entirely adequate yeahand of course they needed more space ontheir forehead for all the face unlockstuff just I didn't only functional differenceyes has a OLED screen yes highresolution blah blah blah blah batterylife but the only real functionalday-to-day for difference is the totaltelephoto lens which I think we allagree is more useful than ultra whiteand so that's what they're gettingpeople like I know but yeahthe second reason and the second reasonultra white as a standard lowest commondenominator across all their 11 phonesand presumably going forward is betterfor a our kit and world mapping right sothat's why I think that the the wideangle wasn't differentiated like that itneeds to be the common denominator whichis novel for photography purposes butuseful for a slam purposes so then whynot do an ultra wide in the telephotoand because the sensor nations not good95% guy will still yes okay not you listeners out thereyou're probably smart but most people Iknow do not adjust exposure tap to focusto finger down to slop down becauseauto-exposure wants things to be brightbut sometimes you don't need things tobe bright or somebody's want things webrother or often it chooses the wrongthing towards I choose the wrong thatyou use halide I do and I take the rawpictures that way yeah I was gonna sayyeah I find that that that maybe onefinger very so what Google has in pixelfor is a way to not only tap and slidethe exposure but to exposure settingsone for highlights and one for shadowsoh that's awesome so basic and this isthat's like a real-ass camera featureit's no it's better than because youdon't get that feature on yes right youhave to that's something you would do inLightroom and it's not confusing becausethat I love that people have learnedthis with Instagram and learned it withyou know the built-in auto adjustfeatures that you get on the camera appand editing feature or on on photos inGoogle Photos people understand theconcept of lowering highlights andincreasing shadows or adjusting those inposts as you're prepping their photosfor posting on social media to have thatin real time is wonderful and thereJeremy has put up pictures of the pixelpixel for and picks up for date so theyhave three cameras now - no no no theyhave two I just said they only had twoit looks like there's three no thosewise a square those are the lights ohthose are the these four cameras on thatone the pricing is of course undercutsthe iPhone side it's $800 and $900 forthe before and the XL starting at 64gigs and you pay $100 moreso the XL does go up to up to $1,000 ifyou want on George twenty eight gigs ofstorage 128 gigs yes that's plentyeyeballed is 250 Apple goes from 64 256because toprotect their data mm-hmmas a citing probably Cambridge analyticas an example of why that is the case sofor low level no data sharing there's athing that basically lets you do homeroutines to trigger certain behaviors solike if you want your nest thermostat toalways turn on at 7 o'clock in themorning so it's more when you wake upyou can set your home hub to connect tothat and not get any data back from nestit just sends a signal that says hey dothis at this time ok there's the normalDeveloper Program which is full sharingwhich will have limited distribution ofthose assets so like if I'm a nerd andwant to make my nest work with my weirdhome automation stuff I can but it isn'tnecessarily like something that I canthen make publicly available is myunderstanding of that and then the thirdand this is the way they expect most ofthis stuff to work is device accesswhere Google pre qualifies partners tojoin the program and they only are goingto qualify presumably trustworthy goodactors like I assume Samsung and Appleand who you know bad examples cuz thepartner kind of like Apple probably I'mgonna bethe program but the point is it'll be apartnership that they trust the othercompany to not and and they've reviewedtheir privacy policy in terms of serviceand all that stuff so that your datawon't go places it's not expected to gothat's a good thing they also had abunch of new stuff like the new they'removing all the nest stuff it's nowGoogle Nest instead of just nest I don'tknow that that matters but theyannounced new products like the new anew version of the Google home what itused to be the Google home Mini and nowit's I think the Google Nest mini it'sunclear does it still work with if thisthen that yes okay if this then thatthough is not great for home Hertzfeld he clammed for jobthere he was a low-level engineer andand he left this and then eventuallycame back to Apple so why didn't andcreate the quiet jobs not go there oncehe was fired because jobs - jobs forother people because jobs because he washe was did you not see why didn't theywant jobs film where his whole planexplicitly get back in the Apple finebut why not do this instead of nextthere is a huge omission in thisdocumentary because it does not talkabout what Steve Jobs talked thought ofthis oh reallyat all Jobs is barely mentioned theyhave more of John Sculley in them at all times max title onebit pixel art they could literally plugin a video rj11 cable and getand tap into the AT&T business intranetthat you would pay a subscription feefor it had a modem and a modem what PCImy a card I believe a expandabilitymobile but the problem was that it gotthey got scooped by the internet theydidn't see they were so mired in theirdreams and hopes for this PDA typedevice that they didn't see the Internetpassed them by by the time this thinkingabout the BlackBerry was available toand it had Wireless GSM or GPRS but youcould get emailed one of these greatthings I mean is in the trailer in theor to end the film as a like pan throughthe faces of all the people who workthere they are like the CEOs of all thebig core you know tech companies todaythis is the failure that spawned thisone 15 other companies and the footageis fantastic because they were smartenough they knew they had something andthey were so high minded about it thatthey had documentarians filmed them infilm right obviously not video and sothey've rescanned all that film and theyhad like the first day with everyone atthe office they had all their late nightya know crunch time it's all done infilm and it was all in service of makingthis image this device that wasconceptualized you know 20 years beforethe iPhone and it was the candy bar withthe icons how about them 480 by 320pixel LCD yeah Paul and bought all theirpens that makes sense yeah because thepalm the palm one would have come outaround the Titan same time this thingcame out so a bit later highlyrecommended I even though we'vediscussed that there's so much more indocumentary that it's not spoil it'sjust incredibly fun to watch if you'reinterested in technology Silicon Valleyand it's on iTunes it so check yousaid look naturalistic to meyeah are you like a like a home videolike this shot with natural light likenot composed all and I think that wasintentional but to me all the setlighting was so glaringly obvious thekey lights the back lights like all thatset light I could see almost off framethe big Airy lights with the silks rightthereyeah because all the actors they lit itintentionally from 120 but it's likethat's did they have to over saturate itbefore the high frame rate did so I meanthat I did not like that I I want theyhad to show super show that everythinghad to be super well lit before thesuper high lit like all in the framingtoo you know when you typically have amovie and you shoot and for instancewhen you have conversation you go overto the shoulder and you verse it and betwo cameras and then your ISOs it wasall ISOs actors would be Center spacesthere would be Center screen lookingalmost down the barrel right off theside of the camera and you would get acut the cuts would be I'm looking at youand then you're looking at me never overthe shoulder rarely rack focus with twopeople on screen because it was soshallow and for the 3d it was almostconfessional in that way
