NAB 2017 - FeiyuTech iPhone Gimbals

Exploring iPhone Gimbals from fch: A Comprehensive Look

Hey guys, it's Max here from NAB, and I'm here with Tom from fch, and we're going to take a look at their offerings for iPhone gimbals. They have four different things here, a couple of which are going to be launching soon, so he's going to let us know what they have and the differences between them.

Let's start by taking a closer look at one of the newest ones, the Vimble. This is going to pretty much be our very consumer-based gimbal, with three axes still intact. You still get some of the same features, just not the same battery life, but you are able to charge your phone with this. So, when you connect it and then use the Pay You app, which allows you to zoom in and out, this is going to be $1,139, a great price point for the consumer market. Yeah, when you told me that I was just shocked by $139.

So, what's the battery life on that? The specs haven't been finalized yet, but Tom said anywhere from 4 to 5 hours, plenty for most people, but it really depends on the size of your phone. If you're using a 7 Plus, for example, you'll get less because the motors are working harder. But overall, this is a great starting point for anyone looking into gimbals.

The other version we have here is the SVG Live Well, which has an 8-hour battery life. It also has Bluetooth built-in, so you're able to connect to it through the app and so on. You'll also get a record start/stop button just like with these others, and it's got vertical video capabilities for Facebook live, Periscope, or any other live streaming you want to do.

It's easy to control, thanks to its internal 18650 battery charge, which makes it rechargeable lithium-ion. But what really sets this apart is that it's a lot easier to control than some of the other options out there. There isn't really a learning curve like with something like one handle ones, because it's designed to be more intuitive.

The SVG Plus and SVG Plus are actually available now in the Apple Store, and they're shipping on all online stores as well. They're part of this collection that has 3/4"20s on top to mount lights, microphones, or any other accessories you want to attach. These are prototypes and should be released in about 2 1/2 months, so keep an eye out for those.

But what's really cool here is that fch gimbals aren't just limited to iPhones. They can hold cell phones up to 1.4 pounds, making them perfect for smaller mirrorless or point-and-shoot cameras. And the thing about this one is that it has an 8-10 hour battery life, simply because it's larger and can accommodate more batteries.

This gimbal is tool-less, which means you're able to balance it quickly and easily when using larger cameras. You'll still get the same joystick controls for pan, but you also get a start/stop button, all in one convenient package. And the best part? They ship with GoPro adapters so you can attach any GoPro camera or other accessory.

But fch gimbals aren't just limited to these specific models. As we mentioned earlier, they're actually available for use with both iPhones and Android devices. This makes them perfect for anyone looking to capture smooth footage on the go.

So there you have it, guys, a comprehensive look at iPhone gimbals from fch. Whether you're a seasoned camera operator or just starting out, these options should give you something to consider when it comes to capturing great footage with your iPhone.
