iOS 13.3.1 Battery Test & More - iOS 13.3.1 Follow-Up

The Battery Test: A Comprehensive Review

As part of our ongoing testing and review process, we conducted an extensive battery test on various devices, including the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 10, 10 R, 10 S, iPhone 11, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. We applied identical settings to each device, with a screen brightness of around 75% and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled, to ensure fair comparisons.

The results were surprising, with some devices performing significantly better than others. The iPhone SE emerged as the top performer, lasting an impressive 7 hours and 15 minutes on a single charge. This is remarkable, considering its age and relatively small battery capacity. In contrast, the iPhone 6s Plus struggled to reach 6 hours and 35 minutes, while the iPhone 7 plus barely made it to 7 hours and 45 minutes.

The iPhone 10 R and 10 S fared much better, with battery life exceeding 9 hours for both devices. The iPhone 11 Pro Max took the top spot, lasting an astonishing 13 hours and 15 minutes on a single charge. These results suggest that Apple's newer devices are designed to be more power-efficient, with advanced technologies such as improved display hardware and optimized software.

On the other hand, some devices struggled to meet expectations. The iPhone 7, for instance, had a relatively short battery life of 5 hours and 10 minutes. The iPhone 6s also underperformed, lasting only 6 hours and 35 minutes on a single charge.

It's worth noting that these results were obtained using a controlled testing environment, with identical settings applied to each device. This ensures that the differences in battery life can be attributed to individual device characteristics rather than external factors such as usage patterns or environmental conditions.

The Battery Health of Older Devices

In addition to the comprehensive battery test, we also explored the battery health of older devices. As part of our ongoing testing and review process, we examine the battery health of these devices over time. This is particularly important for users who plan to keep their devices for an extended period or upgrade them when new models are released.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, which were tested alongside newer devices, had varying levels of battery health. The iPhone 6s had a relatively healthy battery life, lasting around 7 hours and 40 minutes on our testing rig. However, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus struggled to meet expectations, with battery life ranging from 5 hours to 6 hours and 35 minutes.

The iPhone SE, which was also tested as part of this exercise, had an impressive battery health score, lasting around 7 hours and 15 minutes on our testing rig. This suggests that the iPhone SE's battery is well-suited for everyday use, making it a great option for users who want a reliable device without breaking the bank.

The Impact of iOS 13.3.1

In recent days, we've had the opportunity to test iOS 13.3.1 on various devices. This update brought several bug fixes and improvements, including the resolution of an issue where notifications sometimes failed to be delivered. Unfortunately, this problem persists in the final release, with some users reporting that their device will display a notification but fail to light it up or make any sound.

We also tested iOS 13.3.1 on multiple devices, which revealed some surprising results. The battery life of these devices varied significantly, depending on factors such as screen brightness, Bluetooth usage, and Wi-Fi connectivity. However, one consistent trend emerged: the iPhone SE consistently outperformed its contemporaries in terms of battery life.

iOS 13.3.1 Fixing Notable Bugs

In addition to the issue with notifications, iOS 13.3.1 also fixed several other notable bugs. One such bug affected audio playback, where some users reported that their music would not play properly due to a hardware issue. This problem has now been resolved in the final release.

Another bug related to Wi-Fi connectivity, which caused some users to experience intermittent connection issues with their wireless network. Apple has also addressed this issue in iOS 13.3.1.

In conclusion, our testing and review process for iOS 13.3.1 has provided valuable insights into the performance and reliability of this update. While it has fixed several notable bugs, some issues persist, including the notification delivery problem that continues to affect some users. Nevertheless, these findings suggest that Apple is committed to delivering a stable and reliable software experience for its customers.
