Unboxing and First Look at the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro

Welcome to my unboxing and first look at the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro, a PCI capture card for computers that captures consoles, cameras, PC gameplay, and anything else you want. This is a very popular capture card for capturing uncompressed video from video cameras and video games, making it perfect for YouTube, Blu-ray production, and other professional applications.

The Intensity Pro is available in two models: the internal model and the Shuttle, which is an external USB or Thunderbolt model. On the front of the device, you'll see Blackmagic Design, HDMI, and analog HD SD editing card. The internal model, as shown on the back of the device, is hooked up to a camera and a Mac Pro. It's an internal PCI capture card that will not work with laptops.

People often ask about the quality of HDMI with the flexibility of analog, and how it goes beyond HDV video quality professional standards, such as 1080i 59.94, 1080i 50, 720p 59.94, and 60. Let's take a closer look at what we have here.

We've got some part numbers on the packaging, which I think is about it for now. On-air video mixing and package content are also included in this device. Now that I've opened the package, let's take a closer look at the contents. Inside, we have an S-Video to Component Adapter, which would be ideal for connecting S-Video connections from old game consoles like the PlayStation 2.

This adapter is used for higher quality signal output and should not be used if you're using it as a video game capture source. Instead, you should use digital signals with a card like this. The device comes with all connections hooked up to the breakout cable, but we won't be messing with that because this is specifically designed for HDMI capture.

Breaking open the static package now, I'll show you what's inside. On the front panel of the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro, we have a Breakout Cable Port and an HDMI In and Out. This device does have HDMI Pass-Through, which means you don't need to split your signal before passing it through the card. The card itself is PCI Express x16, fitting in desktops.

The Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro records uncompressed video up to 1080i 59.94 or 720p 60. The device also comes with a guidebook and software manual. It's worth noting that there may be an updated version available online, as Blackmagic Design updates their drivers pretty often and keep them up to date quite well.
