The Canon 5D Mark II: What We Know About Its Successor
The Canon 5D Mark II is a top-notch HD video shooting DSLR that was actually the first DSLR to shoot HD video from Canon. It's an amazing camera, but we are starting to wonder what Canon's going to do with the refresh. The 5D Mark II has become a very popular just video camera, with many people using it solely for shooting videos. There are even TV shows that use it to shoot video, making it a staple in the industry.
As we speculate about the next generation of the 5D series, we're starting to wonder what Canon will do with the refresh. Given the 5D Mark II's popularity as a video camera, we think it's likely that the next model will be more video-centered. One thing we could expect is a slightly larger LCD screen on the back, maybe even an articulating LCD screen like the one found on the 60D. This would be a great feature for filmmakers who need to adjust their angle without having to hold the camera.
Another feature that would be nice to see in the next generation of the 5D series is a dual memory card slot. Right now, the Mark II only has a single memory card slot, and it's a CF card. While it's still one of the best options for photographers, a dual memory card slot would allow users to film more than 4 GB per clip of HD video without having to stop filming and swap out cards. This feature alone could make the 5D Mark III a major upgrade for filmmakers.
For photographers, one of the biggest deals about the 5D Mark II was its less-than-perfect autofocus system. It's not exactly slow, but it could use some work. We were hoping that the next generation would have a better autofocus system, but we've since realized that this might not be the case. With the 50D and 7D already offering much faster autofocus systems, Canon may choose to focus on other features instead.
Despite the lack of an improved autofocus system, we expect the 5D Mark III to retain its beautiful body and weather-sealed construction. The camera's current design has been praised for its durability and reliability, making it a great choice for photographers who need to shoot in harsh environments. We also expect the camera to be paired with the 24-105mm F4 lens, which is already a popular kit lens for the 5D series.
In terms of performance, we're expecting an upgrade from the current Digic 4 processor that powers the 5D Mark II. While Canon hasn't confirmed this, rumors suggest that the next generation will feature a slightly faster processor and possibly two Digic 4 processors instead of one. This could result in a frames-per-second boost to around 4.5-4.8 FPS, making the camera even more suitable for fast-paced video production.
Finally, there's been some speculation about the sensor size of the next generation 5D series. Rumors have circulated that it might feature a high 20-30 megapixel sensor, although this is still purely speculative at this point. The current 21 megapixel sensor in the 5D Mark II has excellent low-light performance, but we'll be eager to see how Canon addresses noise and dynamic range with a larger sensor.
As for the release date of the 5D Mark III, it's anyone's guess. We're expecting prices of the current model to drop significantly as soon as the new camera is announced, making it an attractive option for filmmakers and photographers on a budget. Whether you're planning a shoot or just looking for a great all-around camera, the Canon 5D series has always been a top choice. With its latest iteration on the horizon, we can't wait to see what the future holds for this popular DSLR series.
Renting equipment is also an option for those who need it for an extended period of time or want to test out different gear before buying. The link to rent camera and video gear is available in the description section of the video, providing another convenient solution for filmmakers on a budget. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, the Canon 5D series has something to offer everyone.
With all this speculation behind us, we'll have to wait and see what Canon announces next. However, one thing is certain: the 5D Mark III will be an exciting development for photographers and filmmakers alike.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey what's up guys it's Marquez from the MKBHD Channel back with another HD video and today we're going to talk about the Canon 5D Mark II or 6D rumors basically this camera doesn't exist yet we're just going to talk about what we know about it so as you guys probably already know the Canon 5D Mark II is a top-notch HD video shooting DSLR it was actually the first DSLR to shoot HD video from Canon and uh it's an amazing camera but we are starting to wonder what Canon's going to do with the refresh it's interesting because the 5D Mark II has actually become a very popular just video camera a lot of people use it just to shoot videos there are TV shows that use it to shoot video so we're kind of thinking the refresh is going to be a more video centered refresh and I think some of the things we could expect is maybe something like a slightly larger LCD screen on the back maybe even an articulating LCD screen like we see on the 60D something cool to see on the Mark II would be a dual memory card slot right now it only has a single memory card slot and it's a CF card uh I think it'll still be another CF card but if there was a dual memory card slot and you could also film more than 4 GB per clip of HD video that would be really nice in the upgrade now for photographers one of the biggest deals about the 5D Mark II was a less than perfect autofocus system it's really uh it's very very much surpassed by the likes of maybe the 50d or the 7D that have a much faster autofocus system as you can see it's not exactly slow but it's still could use some work so we were thinking that the 5D Mark III might have a better autofocus system but then we realized that would kind of take away from reasons to buy their other dslrs so as much as we'd like to see better autofocus in the Mark iiii I don't think it's going to happen this time other things like the beautiful body of the 5D Mark I will be probably preserved in the Mark III it's a weather sealed body and all the L lenses are weather sealed so they're a very nice Mount uh a very nice pair I think it'll also be paired with the 24 to 105 F4 again great kit lens and uh I think it's definitely a great all around walk around lens it works really well with the 5D especially because it's full frame so the processor in the 5D Mark I is the digic 4 processor and you can shoot it up to 3.9 frames per second I think the 5D Mark III is going to have a slight bump in that I don't know if it's going to be a dig 5 processor or maybe two dig 4 processors but I think that there's going to be a frames per second boost maybe to about 4.5 4.8 frames per second it's not exactly slow right now but it could use a little bit of work I think the biggest possible upgrade that we could see to the Mark I is the sensor there's been some crazy rumors flying around of the I maybe having close to like a high 20 to low 30 megapixel sensor so we've we've seen a rumor of the 36 megapixel sensor in the Canon that that's pretty crazy I know it sounds like the noise performance would be bad but the 5D Mark II has excellent low light performance with a 21 megapixel sensor so I'm interested to see what Canon does but right now I'm going to put my estimate at a 32 megapix no I'm I'm going to say 28 I'm going to say a 28 megapixel sensor in the Mark III I have have no idea what the release date is going to be I'm going to leave that speculation up to you guys but I think that when it does come out we could we can expect to see prices of the Mark I drop a lot they they started off around $2,800 and right now you can pick up a 5D Mark I body for about1 $1800 on eBay uh and if you'd like to rent one for a couple of weeks for a much much better price you can check out the link in the description where you can buy all sorts of camera gear video gear uh maybe you have a shoot coming up you want to shoot crazy videos for a week you can rent to 5D so that's basically it guys thanks for watching this video and if you enjoyed it please give it a thumbs up uh there's a lot more videos to come and uh a lot more reviews also to come of products that I haven't even showed you guys yet uh and if you enjoyed also please uh subscribe if you haven't already thanks for watching and I'll talk to you guys later peacehey what's up guys it's Marquez from the MKBHD Channel back with another
