iOS 13.2.3 Update: A Follow-up Review
The software has been out for approximately one week now, and as I usually like to do, I like to come back and provide additional information for you guys in terms of battery performance, bugs, and issues that I may come across after using the software.
My primary device is an iPhone 11 Pro, but I do use the iPhone 10 series of Macs around the house. After using the software, I have noticed a few things that are worth mentioning. One thing that was surprising to me is there's been some heating up issues on the iPhones 7 and 8. Various reports have surfaced about battery performance issues, including overheating. This is something that I will be keeping an eye on as it seems to be a recurring issue.
When it comes to audio sharing, AirDrop, and other features like browsing and opening and closing applications, 3D Touch or Haptic Touch, these things are working as intended. All the features seem to be functioning properly, with no lag or issues between applications. However, I have noticed that certain applications take time to load in the background for some reason. Sometimes they freeze, sometimes they don't – it's a bit of a scatter shot in terms of performance.
One thing I've noticed is that certain fixes pointed out by Apple seem to be working great, especially with the email application. Things are going pretty well there. In terms of battery life, I have to say that I'm not really complaining. I used this device around the house and didn't use it as my daily driver, but I have been testing the battery on several devices here by the way.
I've got a few devices lined up for a thorough battery test, including an iPhone 7, an iPhone 8, and other models. I'm going to be waiting for iOS 13.3 to be released to provide that information for you guys. However, if you're interested in seeing a battery comparison now, I'd be happy to do one.
Before we dive into the YouTube community poll, I just want to give you my thoughts on the software so far. One thing that stands out is the fact that Apple is making an effort to improve upon the software, as mentioned in their release notes. However, it seems like battery life continues to be a major issue, especially with certain models like the iPhone 7 and 8.
In terms of the performance of the device, everything seems to be working as intended. The apps are responding quickly, and there's no lag between applications. However, I do think that some of these fixes pointed out by Apple could use a bit more work. For example, certain applications take time to load in the background for some reason. It's not a major issue, but it's something that Apple should look into.
The YouTube community poll is very important stuff, and this is where you guys come in. We have approximately 5,900 votes, and I asked how iOS 13.2.3 is working for you. It looks like 56% of you guys are having a great experience with the software, while 17% are experiencing some bugs. 5% of you guys are not running iOS 13.2.3 at all, and 21% have mixed feelings about the update.
One thing that's clear from this poll is that battery life continues to be a major issue for many users. The iPhone 7 plus is draining horrible, according to many of you guys. Heating issues are also a problem, especially on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8. This is something that Apple needs to address quickly, as it's not acceptable for a device to overheat like this.
The trend continues from previous updates – Apple seems to be improving upon the software, but battery life takes a hit. I'm going to be testing the iPhone 7, iPhone 8, and other models with a thorough battery test to see if iOS 13.3 fixes some of these issues. You can head on over to the YouTube community poll to read and see what other users are experiencing.
Overall, the software does improve upon some of the previous issues, but there's still more work to be done. If you're not already on iOS 13.2.3, I would say hold off especially for iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 users. Hold off on the software and consider downgrading until iOS 13.3 is released. Fingers crossed that Apple fixes some of these battery issues with their next update.
