Ninja Gingerbread Cookie Kit - Whatcha Eating #120

Welcome to Another Whata Eating Today! I've got a holiday-themed cookie cake that I found just at the local Target around here, and I'm going to share it with you. It's a Ninjabread Cookie Kit, which is a take on the holiday classic gingerbread cookie or gingerbread man cookie, but with a ninja twist. The kit includes cookie cutters, and all you need to add to it is butter, honey, and water – pretty simple!

So, let's go into the kitchen and see how it's done! Start off by adding the cookie mix to a bowl and adding two tablespoons of room temperature butter to the mix. Just work it in with a fork, then you want to add 1 tbsp plus 1 teaspoon of water and stir that in. Finally, add 1/4 cup of honey and work that in as well. I found it to be a little bit dry, so I just end up using my hands to kind of knead everything together. If your mixture is too dry, just add a couple of drops more water and then again work it so it forms a dough.

Once your dough is formed, wrap it in some plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Then, roll it out between two pieces of plastic wrap till it's about 3/16 of an inch. Use your cookie cutters and cut out as many cookies as possible – saving the scraps and rerolling them to make more cookies. Carefully transfer the cutouts onto a silicone sheet or a lightly buttered cookie sheet, and bake in a 350° oven for 9 to 11 minutes until the edges are just about golden.

While the cookies are baking, you can make your icing by emptying the icing packet into a bowl and adding 2 tablespoons of water. There's remaining half teaspoon that I added gradually because I didn't want my icing to be too thin. When the icing is about this consistency, it's ready to be transferred into a Piping Bag. A simple way to fill your Piping Bag is just to use a glass F. Edge over and then fill it – when you're done, just pull up the edges and it'll keep the bag nice and clean. Using a pair of scissors, cut the very tip of your Piping Bag, and begin piping.

I drew my own designs for the ninjas, so I found that the easiest thing to do was just to trace the perimeter with some icing and then add the details in the middle afterwards. Here's a really simple way to make a snowflake – start by piping an X, then draw a line vertically right through the intersection of the two lines next. Create a series of V's connecting all of the lines, and you'll create a star shape in the middle. Finish with some small lines radiating outwards, and you've got yourself a snowflake!

If you're interested in making gingerbread cookies or a house for that matter, I'll put a link down below to a video I did last year of a traditional gingerbread recipe. I wasn't really so pleased with the type of The Ensemble that the ninjas had on here – they look to me more like angry salarymen or angry clowns or something, so I changed my design a little bit.

Okay, right here are the cookies and I think they turned out pretty well. Here's one that's in horse shape – this one's doing a sidekick, and it looks like a flying kick of some kind. It's better when you use the beads instead of making them clown ninjas, so let's give a taste to this guy because I think he's pretty cool. The sidekicks smell pretty good, but they're not very good – hard as a rock. They got a ginger flavor that you can taste, of course, a royal icing that's quite sweet but it tastes pretty processed. Yeah, not that good, but again I have to be reminded that this only included 2 tablespoons of butter and some honey and some water – so for that, I guess it's worth it.

It's really fun, and it's a great kind of snowy day afternoon project that doesn't require a lot of work. I hope you guys enjoyed that and maybe learned something – I'll see you in my next video. Happy Holidays take care bye!
