Does 12 South's New Mac Candle Really Smell Like a Freshly Opened Apple Product?
Kind and captions, Language: English.
When it comes to the distinctive smell of new Apple products, there's no denying that it evokes a sense of nostalgia and fond memories for many. For our friends over at 12 South, their new Mac candle is a nod to this iconic scent. This 100% soy candle was recently launched on 9 to 5 Mac, and we're excited to share our thoughts on whether it really does smell like a freshly opened Apple product.
When you first take the new Mac candle out of its box, you can smell it immediately – even without removing the lid! 12 South calls this an "interpolation of the first aroma" that you'd experience when opening a new Mac product. This could include anything from iPhones to iPads or MacBook Pros, although we haven't seen those in a while. The fragrance is strong and will fill your room, so keep that in mind if you're purchasing this candle for novelty reasons only – you might not want to burn it, but you'll still be able to smell it without lighting it.
The scent itself doesn't exactly replicate the smell of a freshly opened Mac or iPhone. In fact, no one product smells like another – each has its own unique aroma that's unmistakable. However, our reviewer notes that the new Mac candle does capture some of those familiar notes, making it a nice nod to the past. It's worth noting that even if the scent doesn't perfectly replicate a freshly opened Apple product, it still manages to evoke a sense of familiarity and nostalgia.
As part of their testing process, our reviewer purchased a special lighter designed specifically for this candle – a coil lighter that charges over USB and is wind-resistant. This was a fun addition to our review, as we've never used one of these before (nor are we particularly experienced with them!). Despite being nervous about lighting it, the coil lighter proved to be reliable and effective.
One of the standout features of this candle is its strong, pleasant aroma. The reviewer describes it as "clean" – a description that feels apt given the scent's fresh, non-guilty vibe. While the new Mac candle doesn't smell exactly like a freshly opened Apple product (which, by definition, would be unique to each individual device), it does capture some of those signature notes in a way that feels genuine and authentic.
Burn time is another important consideration for any candle – and 12 South's new Mac candle delivers with 45-55 hours of burn time. That may not seem like a lot, but when you consider the price point (just $24!), it's actually quite reasonable. And if you're looking to purchase this candle solely for its novelty value, that's all the more appealing.
All in all, 12 South's new Mac candle is a unique and interesting product that will likely appeal to fans of Apple products – or anyone simply looking for a pleasant, nostalgic scent. Whether it exactly replicates the smell of a freshly opened Mac or iPhone is less important than its ability to evoke a sense of familiarity and enjoyment.
