The Thrill of Radials: A Street Racing Experience Like No Other

For the past, I was probably running at full throttle for very long at all. Okay, so the launch is better, but now the back end is a little greasy. Well, no, I wouldn't even say that the thing that sketched me out on that pass is I have my front end loose and usually I don't. Whenever I'm on power, it's coming up and I'm thinking it's riding a wheelie because I have this thing smacked closed pinned tight. So, if I know if it has any movement upwards in the front, I'm on a wheelie right. The whole time I was like oh shoot, it's coming up a wheelie. You know what I mean? So I'm in and out of the throttle and it was a mess but I got out of the 60 foot, I went down so now I'm gonna make a front end adjustment and hopefully next round a lot better.

Moving on to the second round, we're moving on to the Radials track right okay. Not bad, what am I doing? Racing's racing right. I'm pretty sure they both spun pretty bad but uh, the Z was able to collect it and get back in all right two rounds down for the Z. Yeah, you know it. It knocked the tire right away, but it recovered it and fairly decent. And I drove it, luckily got the win. But my competitor, he had a tough run so next round, I'm gonna loosen the front end a little bit where I know it's gonna set back on the tire and uh, I think it's gonna be a really good race between whoever is racing you know it's gonna be my car should go down really good.

Oh yeah, how many cars are left? Three. Oh there's three this we're in the final. Oh you got to buy yes oh no are you serious? Yeah, you got to put this one down in the book I know I know you're now a fan of radials. You like prep tracks now what's going on. I'm telling everybody, I don't do it. I got a fever that's why. What a lucky duck that's a street race and no prep. Oh car never been on a prep track he never used radios before and now he just pulled the buy for the finals so he's gonna make a pass here in the semifinals under power try to get a tune up for the fast guys but he's on the finals about who he is man it's been a hell of a freaking last couple days. I'll tell you that, uh did a few changes. Okay, because the last pass before that I tried to leave super super soft and it still hit the tire and I knocked it off so I'm like, "You know what? Besides the tried and true, you know so I'm gonna try to go back to it and see if I can't pull it off with a slick.

All right, you know that's right. How much weight did you put on? Oh boy, a couple hundred pounds at least 270 pounds. Damn good luck we're gonna see if see if we can get down thanks man yeah all right. No, you went second. I did a little bit. You went to the finals yep never racing on a prep track and never racing on the radio. Yeah, how was that last pass? What happened there it was slow I think. Uh I had a few little issues with the car. You know it. It dropped like 10 mile an hour. 20 almost 20 mile an hour oh wow it was crazy but um does it hurt issues I noticed this I don't know I don't even I don't know if this there's like a crack or something going on but it was like bubbling or something.

But anyway, so what's going on. But but I don't know what it was you know maybe the slickness gave me a little too much wheel speed or whatnot but I was down about uh about two tenths and about 20 miles an hour on that run so uh ain't much I could say you know I just live and learn and try to dial in better next time. Is this your last prep track race for a while? Really yeah just going back to the streets oh yeah all right all right well hopefully we see you on the streets again soon oh that's a that's a definite all right man we'll see you soon buddy thank you congrats you're great you made the finals congratulations way better than I thought I was gonna do it right. 240z um 427 single 118 clyde fab 9 on tom b85 nothing special you know well the 118 is kind of special i mean that's not a normally i'm used to hearing like pro mighty one that's a little big yeah never can't have enough you know what i mean well that's just fair never can't have enough what kind of power are you making with the car right now i was here like probably somewhere around like 18 1900. okay you know if you've done a test hit on the job so i came yesterday i did a couple tests i'm not used to the radial you know that's just not me the first test hit was on a slick it did good moved around a little bit like i'm used to and a to b right right everyone's like hey you need to put a radio on it because you're gonna gain a couple tents i put a radio on the car and the dead hooks the tire and i stand up in a power wheelie pedal it go back up and slam down it was a it was a mess have you have you ever had the car hooked like that before never really i mean never never an instant power hook like that you know you're not used to anything prepped pretty much no with this car no i'm i'm i'm as virgin as you get that's that's my that's where i'm comfortable right if it's moving i'm comfortable this dead stuck is it it's crazy what class are you doing today so this is going to be all steel all glass okay the whole car has got factory panels on it all the way around the only reason i changed my doors is because i did have legs and windows in it these have factory roll-ups so i just threw another set of doors on but other than that everything is factory um that's it factory floor pans all the way through the car uh nothing crazy really you know what is the game plan today is it just to go around playing the game plan is to take this home okay first time out okay but that's the game plan i like i like how i don't come to lose so i'm gonna give everything i got and see if we can't bring the w home all right welcome to a track there are a few more rules here on an hour and really hard had a little bit of tire shake up on the bigger end and then uh i just i just kept it floored and it kind of just drove through it nice and smooth this next pass i have a few ideas on what to do to make the car go faster obviously and make it hook so we're going to take it round by round we get one more test hit to dial this thing in so we'll see how it goes 300 less pounds right now how did that feel compared to yesterday it felt awesome you know once once i uh pedaled and left the tire bite and then rolled back in it it felt great so um i like it a lot everything reacts faster you might be a track guy at the end of this don't say that he's like don't do that oh man all right we didn't know you were going to get a third test hit today i didn't know either right and to be honest i had a grudge race set up anyway so they said we can grudge if we had something set up so i was like well duh i'm going to go to good you know get a little extra data and stuff uh but i'm gonna take i'm gonna take advantage of it and try one last time on these damn radials and see if i can't get down so you try if if the radials don't work on this hit you're gonna switch the slicks for elimination tomorrow i'm going right back to slicks yep because i know i could run a decent time consistently with this with the slit it might not be the fastest but i will be consistent so i'm gonna guess the yellow z is gonna switch back to slicks now that's the third time in the row he's had to pedal it it went aft like it stuck after he pedaled it but he's pretty sick and tired of pedaling we're gonna check in and make sure that's what he's doing but i'm pretty sure that's what he's doing all right so you had to pedal it again hey it's it's stuck it's stuck right power pulled out of this car on the hit it's ridiculous so at this point man i don't know what to do like like i'm fighting with myself you know one half of me wants to keep it on and try it again and the other half says get that you know and go for what you know and it's just i don't know i really don't the only thing i know how to do is if i ever have this problem i throw some weight in the car
