I READ 5 - mass market paperback romances

**A Romance Reader's Experiment: Exploring Mass-Market Romances**

I recently embarked on an experiment to read five mass-market romances, each with a unique cover and description that piqued my interest. I had no particular expectations or goals for this reading challenge, aside from stepping outside of my comfort zone and exploring the world of romance novels.

**The Challenges of Descriptive Writing**

One aspect that struck me while reading these romances was the way authors attempted to describe romantic scenes without using explicit language. While some books relied on euphemisms, others opted for more creative descriptions. For example, I noticed that many authors used phrases like "hot and moist" or "ripe with flavor" to convey a sense of desire, which seemed more uncomfortable than simply using the actual words. This phenomenon made me wonder why authors felt the need to use indirect language in the first place.

**A Quiet Comfort in Romance**

One book that stood out to me was "Night Moves" by Nora Roberts. Set in the 1990s, this novella exuded a quiet comfort that I found endearing. The story revolved around Scylla and Detective Boyd, who form a romantic connection as they try to unravel a mystery together. Without too much fanfare or melodrama, Nora Roberts skillfully wove a narrative that explored the complexities of Scylla's emotional walls and how Detective Boyd helped her break through them.

**The Formulaic Nature of Romance Novels**

While I appreciated the quiet, introspective nature of "Night Moves," I couldn't help but notice the formulaic structure of many romance novels. Many of these books follow a similar pattern: introducing the protagonist, establishing their emotional state, and then gradually revealing the romantic tension between them. The mystery plot often serves as a catalyst for the romance to unfold. While this formula worked well in "Night Moves," I did find that some other books in the series followed a more predictable arc.

**Romance and Personal Growth**

As I delved deeper into my reading challenge, I stumbled upon quotes from various authors that resonated with me. For instance, one author noted that romances can be valuable precisely because they explore personal growth, relationships, and women's empowerment. This perspective made me realize just how much romance novels have been misunderstood or marginalized in the past.

**Breaking Down Barriers**

I also found it interesting to reflect on my own relationship with romance novels. As a reader who often avoids explicit content, I've sometimes felt ashamed of enjoying "romance books." However, as I delved into these mass-market romances, I began to see that romance is not just about sex; it's about connection, personal growth, and the complexities of human relationships.

**Recommendations and Reflections**

If you're a fellow reader who has been hesitant to pick up romance novels due to societal pressures or preconceptions, I encourage you to give mass-market romances a try. You might be surprised by the variety and depth of stories available. Some authors have inspired me with their writing, such as Nora Roberts, whose quiet comfort and formulaic structure made "Night Moves" an enjoyable read.

As I reflect on this experiment, I realize that reading outside my comfort zone has allowed me to appreciate romance novels in a new light. While I still enjoy some forms of explicit content, I'm now more open to exploring the world of romance. I'd love to hear from you, dear readers: have you ever been hesitant to pick up romance novels? Do you have any favorite authors or book recommendations to share?

**Conclusion**

My experiment in reading mass-market romances has been a delightful surprise. By stepping outside my comfort zone and embracing these stories, I've gained a deeper appreciation for the complexity and value of romance novels. As I look to the future, I'm excited to continue exploring this genre and discovering new authors who inspire me with their writing.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello welcome back to my channel in this video I'm going to be reading five mass-market grocery store and WOM romances I had the idea to make this video over a year ago and have just been putting it off because no matter how much I'd like romance something like this definitely is not that enticing to me so I wanted to talk about that and talked a little bit about kind of romance and how far we've come as a society just briefly bear with me I feel like I have loved for romance ever since I was in middle school I started reading like paranormal romances because I was looking for more in the same vein as Twilight and from there I found a whole world of romance and all kinds of stuff via Kindle unlimited and even in some of the trade sized romances that you see today like Christina Lawrence the honeymooners and things like that but I still feel like whenever I enter a grocery store or a Target or Barnes and Noble I kind of hesitate to go to the romance section and pick up things like this is it because I think these are inherently worse I don't know I really don't know I mean I have to say they are definitely less appealing I guess to look at but I want to get over that and I feel like we as a society it should probably get over that right so that's sort of the goal of this video I went into a target I didn't buy these online and I decided that I would pick up mass-market paperbacks in a variety of genres and see if our mothers and our grandmothers door for people for people for mothers I don't know people before our time if they knew what the they were talking about when they picked up stuff like this so that's sort of the point of this video I mean there's not like a real a real point I just thought this would be kind of fun so we're gonna read these we're gonna see if these are any good and I'm definitely going to keep in mind as I read them if they are as good or better than the types of romances that I'd normally gravitate towards and hopefully at the end of this I can firmly say that you should start picking up books that have shirtless men on the cover so anyway without further ado let's talk about the five books and that I intend to read for this video the first one I have is one that I picked out that because this looked like something that my mom would pick up whenever I was young don't tell me your mom was too cool to read romance I don't give a my mom definitely was into you kind of like the Harlequin type romances and this one really looked like something I feel like I would have seen her read it is the Greek claim sit shock air by Lynn Graham I'd never have read a Harlequin romance before and I just feel like this could be fun it's only about 200 pages I'm wondering how much of a punch this can pack in those 200 pages so this should be interesting I also have all-american cowboy by Dylan crush this is a book that my sister picked out for me kind of as a gag gift slash joke whenever we did I sister picks my TBR video and I figured this is the perfect time to read it this is something that I feel like I do see especially in Texas women picking up like country cowboy romances these are like surprisingly popular especially on Goodreads I see a lot of people picking these up this has like over a four star rating so maybe this is gonna be the winner may be this is gonna be kick-ass I don't know I also have a paranormal to switch things up and this one I like because it's not taking itself too seriously it's called how to seduce a vampire without really trying by Caroline sparks got the hot shirtless dude on the cover and I don't know hopefully this will be kind of entertaining and or not super serious the next one is a classic in the romance genre in terms of authors I feel like definitely seen your grandma read some Nora Roberts and this is keep you close which is a bind up of night shift and might move I haven't really read the back of this but I'm only gonna pick one of these to read because it's two books and one and I don't want to read both and then lastly again this seems like something that someone's mom would do picking up a book that's going to be adapted for Netflix this is a cult classic historical romance and I know it's not in the mass-market size but I know it was originally published as a mass-market romance and it is the Dukan I buy usually a Quinn historical romance so we've got the whole variety pack you know of mass markets basically we've got it all working up find out if these are good really excited about this because the only real mass markets that I've read have been historical and I want to see if the other stuff is kick-ass too let's get reading okay so I am 50% into the Duke and I by Julia Quinn and this is the one that is going to be adapted for Netflix and that's kind of half the reason I picked this up I also just feel like that's such a mom thing to do right to like pick up a book that is gonna be adapted for TV especially when it is like a Regency romance so this is set in eighteen hundred's England which I'm pretty sure I told you guys at the beginning of this video but it is about Simon and Daphne Simon let me get his intro at the very beginning of this book in the prologue we basically get the idea that he has had a really a rough life growing up his father wanted nothing to do with him because he has a stutter and it definitely traumatized him it was really heartbreaking to read actually it definitely pulled the most emotional reaction out of me from this entire book was the prologue so he has kind of made a vow to himself that even though he's going to take over the title from his father now that his father has passed away he does not intend to marry and carry on the family line probably because of his past trauma that's kind of problematic because he's falling for Daphne and Daphne is falling for him Daphne as a part of a really big family very Jane Austen asked definitely got some Pride and Prejudice feels especially with the way that Daphne and as I met interact in the beginning of this novel you get sort of bad enemies two lovers by it that sort of banter he doesn't want to fall for her if she doesn't really want to fall for him either because he is like sworn off women so I'm liking it it's really good the only thing is that I'm kind of hesitant because I've heard that the ending of this book is kind of problematic I think this was written in like 2001 20 years ago so it's kind of it's difficult because I think I know what happens in this book and it's definitely not an excuse thing and it makes me sad that an author even 20 years ago would think that it's an acceptable thing to include you know I'm being very cryptic I will probably let you guys know how I feel about that thing that I think is gonna happen once I get to the end of this book I did watch Murphy and Napier's video on this book and why this is like her least favorite book that she read this entire year like I'm really enjoying the other content I think the writing is a little bit cheesy at times especially the way that Simon used Daphne Greene that just rims her brown eyes and I don't know I'm just stuff like that it's kind of over the top with the descriptions but it's a fun read I like the banter I think it's well written and even if this one lets me down at the end I think I would want to carry on with the series so I'm not gonna try to like get too far ahead of myself I'm enjoying it so far the the part where I'm at right now was like the the main conflict in the book because it Simon and Daphne have been caught in a compromising situation and she is trying to convince him to marry her she wants to marry him anyway but this is like the perfect excuse almost Simon is being very resistant I'm assuming he is going to relinquish all control and marry her but I don't know where things are gonna go from there but I'm interested to see because I've been doing this it's good so I finished the Duke and I and I can understand my Murphy and a lot of other readers especially in modern readers are not so pleased with the ending of this book I didn't want to get to spoilers but I just feel like it's necessary for this and I don't think that assault is a spoiler I'm just gonna be real with you guys Daphne our main character sexually assaults her husband because he says he does not want children he does not ever spill the seed inside of her because he doesn't know on children and Daphne is very naive she doesn't really understand the mechanics of having children and like what it takes to get pregnant so once she figures out that he's basically been lying to her about like conception she decides that she's going to forcibly take his seat and I don't know if it was premeditated or what but we definitely are there when it happens and if it was uncomfortable I mean it's a rape scene essentially I feel like I'd hear a lot of people you know talk about that and obviously it was not the author's intention for it to be a rape scene and so I was wondering if readers were kind of reading something into this that wasn't there but it certainly is unfortunately a sexual assault in our hero he sort of reflects after the fact and we do see him very unhappy what has occurred they end up like kind of separating for a little bit because of this and after some sort of like self-reflection and stuff he basically says that I shouldn't have been so pigheaded I definitely just wasn't listening to her and I was just trying to spite my father and so she was definitely in the right to do this basically it's kind of how he justifies it to himself and I was just like it's not okay regardless of if your thoughts and feelings have changed after the fact like now you do want children in the moment it was wrong her author could have done a lot to make there be doubt same conflict him not wanting children in a way that isn't problematic this was like the cheapest and easiest in a way way to do this she definitely could have separated them for a time Daphne does some self-reflection and realizes that she can't control other people and that just because she wants something her husband doesn't want like she she doesn't get to decide and then he could separately on his own decide that you know spite is not something that I want to have in my life and I don't want to live my life for my father anymore like I'm gonna have children and then they could come together and then be like well let's have kids now but that's not really what happened there's not a whole lot of development on the part of the character separately they kind of have to come together and talk things out which communication is important but development is a very personal thing as someone who's been in a relationship for 10 years I understand that yes you can grow and mature together but when it comes to your own self-identity and awareness that's something you have to develop on your own so it's really frustrating that the author chose to make it really cheap like have an assault and then they spend time apart don't do any self-reflection come back together fight some more and then eventually you say it let's have kids and just read this kind of lazy writing to me and I could be wrong but I think this might be Julia Quinn's debut novel well this is kind of a fail for me I don't know what I'd write this I it's sad because I really did like it besides the glaring not okay and Aang I think I'm gonna give it two stars it sounds pretty harsh I want to continue on with the series I'm hoping that she doesn't do that in the other books no no I don't even know if I can't in good conscience let me know what you guys would do in the comments down below like I would love to know your perspective and if the author didn't intend to condone this sort of action and I know that she probably didn't you know there's just there wasn't the same kind of just course that there is now so I'd be curious to see if like she's put out any statements since writing this I don't know I don't know where I'm going with this but like let me know if you were me do you read more from Julia Quinn I'm excited to still watch the Netflix adaptation and I'm hoping that they handle this issue in a much more tactful way and they've already made changes and it is a shondaland production so I'm assuming it's gonna be a lot more out of wit the times even though again that's a Regency romances so this might not have been the best last-minute pick but like that's just life sometimes so I'm going to carry on and read something else all right kids we're starting the Greek claims a shock air by Glynn Graham I don't know what this book is about so let me read you the brief paragraph that we have after learning of tycoon eros nerve raucous betrayal personal chef twini Mardis walks out of his life determined to never look back or reveal the child she's carrying a year later she's shocked when eros arrives to legitimize his heir swept away to his lavish Mediterranean villa when he is overwhelmed by the fire still burning between them but can she accept her new role as his convenient wife lose yourself in this dramatic secret baby story you know what that is what I intend to do did I pick this because it is 200 pages and I really want to just watch spinning out tonight yes I did so let's power through this let's let's let's do it okay so I'm on page 68 and I have much to think about this book is interesting essentially this guy knocks up this lady and guy is married at the time and so she freaks out and leaves him she falls pregnant with his son and doesn't tell him yo you knocked me up and then he finds out later and decides that he's going to try to find a way to like be with her and his son so sort of the premise of the book I will say doesn't fall into kind of problematic areas because our hero eros is a little bit and he didn't like actually consummate his marriage with his last wife it was just like a marriage of convenience kind of situation and or like he married her because her father asked him to weird if I guess that's good and I think since then he hasn't slept with anyone I think and he just really wants to get to know his kid which I mean fault him for that is this good it's not great but I will say the author's ability to make it a fairly convincing and interesting story in a 200 page book I really didn't think that I would be impressed by Harlequin romance but so far like it's pretty solid I think if I were to rate it right now I'd probably give it three stars it's nothing amazing but I do want them to get together and get married and like live happily ever after so I guess this story is serving its purpose ultimately this was pretty disappointing the first like 50 to 100 pages were pretty good but I really feel like this book could have been cut in half and still have had the same impact the last hundred pages were just them fighting over and over and over again like the couple and then the grandfather came into play as well because he was trying to like blackmail it was just kind of needless and nonsensical and I don't really want to go into the details because I don't feel like it's worth it but how do I feel about this as a whole I you know I respect Harlequin presents I feel like I've been a different book maybe it's like a slightly different premise it would have maybe been a better read because I really do like the idea of having a 200-page romance novel I feel like this is the predecessor for all of those likes muddy novels on Kindle unlimited it's definitely not as explicit as those but it definitely kind of a thought that same purpose it's like a short fun romance I think in the back of this book it says like we've got romance for you whenever you need it or something like that like that's a little tagline and you can find these literally anywhere so I can definitely see why people start out with these and why people like these so much they're pretty like no fuss and easy if these are characters I think that anyone's really gonna fall in love with and I don't think really any of the Harlequin presents romances are gonna be ones that you read time and time again but I think it's a fun escapist time I think it was fun to try something new and different that I literally would never have picked up had it not been for this video so even though this wasn't the best book I'm not I'm sad about having read it like I said my mom this is the kind of romance that she reads so I could kind of understand the appeal nails yeah and I mean look at this TV cover like the faces we love that done with this one I'm gonna go watch spinning out I think the next book let's pick a next book it's gonna be all American cowboy by Dylan crush time for me to crush this cowboy wrote me and said I've had all my shelves for too long so okay so I'm 67 pages into all American cowboy bad Dylan Krish and it's actually kind of cute it's about this girl named Charlie in Holiday Texas and she runs one of the oldest standing honky tonks in Texas the owner of the honky-tonk has died and she would love to take / but the guy I think his name is Sully the owner who died his grandson is technically the heir to the honky Tonk so he's coming down the city-slicker from New York to take over the honky Tonk and he wants to sell the joint and Charlie doesn't want that to happen so it's I'm assuming their romance it's gonna be you know kind of fun it's definitely not enemies two lovers which I kind of assumed that it would be given the synopsis on the back but it's actually just like these two people that are really attracted to each other and I'm sure it's going to be our city slicker a back to figuring out that he really likes the country and that he really likes Charlie so I'm excited about it definitely what I needed after the past couple of romances i've read because not only am i reading romances for this video I also have this other video coming I don't even really want to talk about the details of it but I'm reading 27 books romances specifically for it and all of them have been really bad so far I've read five at the 27th so anyway it's nice to just have something like fun and sweet and pretty well written so far so I am enjoying this I also have the audio book of it or audible escape which is super awesome I probably won't finish it tonight but like it's fine anyway I don't want cares no one cares when I finish these books but I have a FaceTime date later so I would be able to finish this book I will update you guys a little bit later on because I want to give you guys a better feel I'm like how I like the characters what's happening but so far so good all right y'all I am 283 pages into all-american cowboy by Dylan crush yes I'm gonna say it like that every time cuz I just think it's fun I am enjoying this I don't know why it took me a second to get that out but I'm seeing some issues with it but that's not really hindering my enjoyment I think it's gonna end up being a three star read for me the only issue that I'm really having the only reason this isn't gonna be like a four or five star is that I don't think the characters are super well developed or fleshed out and I also feel like the pacing and the plotting of this book is a little bit strange we get Bex coming into town and meeting Charlie they kind of hit it off immediately and then they sort of fight and argue a little bit so there's sort of an enemy's two lovers for like a quarter of the book after that they kind of immediately start banging and then I'm like where that where's the rest of this book gonna go we still have over 100 pages they're already together and I'm not saying that I want my characters to only be together at the very end of the book but I just it seems a little bit strange to get them together so early on the relationship seems very low stakes to me it doesn't seem like the conflicts that they're setting up is gonna be something that is particularly thanks I had nowhere else to go with that but that's fine I mean I knew this was gonna be kind of like a good time sweet I mean it's a cowboy romance I think it would have benefited a little bit more for them to have like more do some more attention and a little bit more enemies to lovers I guess I like the details that are included actually like in the book you don't know if you guys can see this but there's like a little pig right here and there's like it kind of runs across the page because the honky Tonk has like a mascot name to babyback that's special I don't know I just the details are very cute and campy and I think if you're looking before kind of like a small-town cowboy romance it's just really cute I'm gonna finish it and try to withhold my judgement until then but I'm liking it so far it's not a perfect read I didn't expect this to be the perfect read but it's fun again I feel like I shouldn't be embarrassed to pick this up you know what I mean like it's fun if I go to a target and I want to cowboy romance I'm gonna pick this up I don't really know where I'm going with this if you like the whole point of this video was like you know me trying to prove that romance is like good and I know we all know that romance is good I think we just only like look past the covers you know that being said I think this is actually kind of cute cover I'm gonna continue reading I don't think I said it but we're on a tornado watch here so I got out of work early it's a Friday it's like noon I'm gonna read this and then start in on how does to do the vampire Without Really Trying all right Cowboys we've reached the end of this country road I have finished all American cowboy by Dylan crash I think I am going to stick with a three star rating for this book I thought it was cute I think that our hero took too long to kind of realize who the villain was in his life so that was a little bit frustrating but it wasn't egregious like he definitely learned the error of his ways and now he's gonna be taking care of this honky tonks Oh yeehaw we're done with that now we can talk about the fever dream that is how to seduce vampire without really trying by Carolyn sparks I am like only 30 pages into this and it has already been a trip so our hero Zoltan a vampire who lives in Transylvania of course he is trying to find out who murdered his father like hundreds of years ago because he has been alive for all of human history at apparently Zoltan decides to go and find these people because he has the arrow that his father was killed with and he's like whoever made this arrow obviously killed my dad he comes across these female warriors and Fiona is looking for a mate apparently the Warriors have been depleted their only female warriors they need to have some more I guess she basically shoots this guy down she's sue she'd salt I'm down I don't even know if she shoots him I think she might just beat him up he wakes up there her trying to feel on his crotch and he's like what are you doing and she said I can explain and she says I plan to take your seed and that's where the chapter ended that's the third chapter of this book second chapter so interesting the lore and the setup has been very weird Zoltan he can speak to animals conveniently which you know helped him find these warriors because this dog helped him because he could hear his thoughts and there's where bears and all matter of supernatural folk afoot it's interesting also ignore the hair beginning was a little confusing I think I know where this book is going now they were gonna trying to get to know each other and maybe I'll give her or your baby I don't know this is so ridiculous apparently this is the 15th book in this series it seems like it is very it's meaning to be humorous it's not taking itself too seriously which I mean I think you can kind of tell from the title but the author's note kind of says something like literally thank you for reading all 14 of these books like I can't believe I'm still getting published so how oldest son is in and out today I'm all over the place I'm gonna keep reading this and once I get about halfway I'll tell you guys more about how I feel but I have no idea what what's happening this man fully keeps a mummy in his Transylvanian castle and it's the mummy of his dead mother mummy okay that's bad joke I guess I can update you guys now cuz I'm like halfway if done it's really silly but also kind of trying to be serious I don't even know how to describe this he is trying to woo this Amazonian warrior princess it's like bringing her things and trying to convince her that he's worthy of being her mate rather than just a seed donor that's kind of what the story is okay sorry for like the very close angle but if I get farther back you're just going to see a stripe of light on my face okay so I finished how does it do some vampire Without Really Trying I don't think I've learned as much from this as I had hoped I really wanted to learn helpful tips on how to seduce a man prior and sadly that was just not I was not in here this book carried on exactly as I thought it would he basically just tries to move this chick and there's some sort of like conflict when there is this like evil warrior dude who is like after not vampires but anyway they kind of like I think one of the characters gets captured and it didn't really matter i scammed a lot i'm not gonna lie to you I skimmed whatever I mean I liked the touches that brought it in you know there was a Hello Kitty watch that he brought his his mate other than that though I just wasn't really about impressed with this and I looked up reviews and was wondering if like maybe it's just my seasonal depression affecting my view of this book but a lot of people said that they thought that this was one of Carolyn Sparks weaker books in this series so I guess the other ones are good I don't know this was a 3-star for me it was not objectively bad it was kind of fun to read and also I kind of skimmed because I was getting kind of bored you know this video is not going how I planned but that just happened sometimes I guess we're gonna move on to the classic the queen of romance especially a grocery store or mom Rome you know we have Nora Roberts and this is the keep you close bind up a night shift in Night Moves and do these are romantic suspense novels so we're gonna read night shift and I'll read you've a little blurb on the back it said her voice is like whiskey smooth and potent but it's her contradictions that fascinate detective Boyd Fletcher the vulnerability beneath her tough-as-nails facade late night radio announcer sila O'Rourke is being threatened by a sinister caller and it's Boyd's job to protect her no matter what but the sultry deejay gets under his skin and the undeniable chemistry that sizzles between them makes the detective uneasy I'm into that I'm hoping it's a convincing romantic suspense novel I don't normally a pickup romantic suspense I usually read like a dark romance if I want that where I just read a thriller but wondering what this is gonna be like I did find an audiobook of this thank god this video has been held to fill but not gonna lie to you guys I'm just like can I have a good romance can I please have a good Romeo's and I know there's good mom moms out there there definitely are dark lover jr. word comes in the mass-market paperbacks and I know they're readily available don't it's not like there's not good stuff out there I just happened to pick all of the stuff it isn't to my liking so that's on me but it took this video I just want you to know I would usually be more like fun and enthusiastic but I've just been mostly bored I'm gonna start in on this and I'll let you guys know kind of how I'm feeling it's about 100 pages then okay I'm a seventy pages into a night shift by Nora Roberts and I'm actually really enjoying this once I first read this in topsis and it kind of got a couple pages into the book it caught me in such a 90s headspace which is interesting because I think this bind up was published in like 2005 but I looked and apparently nightshift was originally published in 1992 I won a rita award for romantic suspense apparently some people liked it and thought it was good and so this was originally written in the 90s and has such a 90s feel to it like I said we've got our radio DJ who's got this smooth sexy voice someone is calling in to her station during like the song request portion of her show and is basically threatening to kill her and calling her like a and things like that so it's interesting and she teams up with this detective and they're trying to figure out you know who this person is and trying to attract if there's anyone in SOLAS life that is you know trying to harm her so like I said it's so it's like an intangible thing I can't really describe what feel so 90's about this probably the fact that it is that radio DJ thing I like the banter between our heroine and our detective Boyd I believe his name is yeah Boyd Fletcher everything that I needed I didn't know that I needed this but I'm really really enjoying it it kind of makes me want to go and read Nora Roberts like 90s back list of romantic suspense I think that's primarily one or Robert's rights which I didn't know for some reason like you see something like this and you don't think suspense you definitely think like oh it's just gonna be nights and rodanthe type old-lady romance I don't know but that's definitely know what this is so I didn't think I would need to update you guys but this woman's mouth has been described as hot and moist and ripe with flavor don't love that that's the one thing that I've noticed in most of these romances is that the like sexy seems try to be descriptive without using words like dick to me it's like why even use euphemism because it's even more uncomfortable than just using like the actual words that people use okay so I just finished a night shift by Norm Probert I think I'm gonna give this three stars I actually really enjoyed it gave me all the 90s nostalgia there was just so much of that I didn't expect it was like kind of quiet and comforting even though this was like a romantic suspense novel we do find out who is trying to kill our main character Scylla and obviously she enters into a romantic relationship with detective Boyd there wasn't a whole lot of plot going on here most of the story kind of happens between our two main characters there isn't a ton of whodunit and let's solve this mystery especially near kind of the middle and end of the book it seems like we get this kind of exposition get our two main characters falling for each other and then we get this really quick wrap-up at the end and to be honest for a 200 in like 45 page book I wasn't really upset about that formula it worked really well but I do think Nora Roberts did a convincing job at kind of getting you to understand why Scylla is sort of closed off to love and romance why detective point is the right one to like break her down and like you know break through her so to say walls that sounds a little bit actual nature and break through her emotional barriers if you will this was really cute glad I read this I kind of think I might end up reading Night Moves at some point too I just kind of like the quietness of Nora Roberts writing I listened to a novella from her for my Christmas romance reading vlog but I didn't love but I appreciated and this one I appreciated even more every we do think if I look at like a list of best Nora Roberts books and pick one from that I'll be even more impressed so I'm glad I read this especially since she is one of the most prolific romance authors out there and she's still kicking itself is really nice to pick this up I'm glad that I did but that kind of concludes this video I have read five mass-market romances and I don't know that this experiment went exactly as I had planned I didn't really set out to achieve any super big goals I guess my point in making this video was that we should step outside of our comfort zone a little bit and that romance is really an important staple and it has been in a lot of women's lives for with a long time and then as we progressed more as a society if we should be more accepting and more excited about romance and not have to justify it with well this one has a pretty Illustrated cover and I can pick that one up Ori this doesn't have sexually explicit scenes so I'm some he'll know I'm like I'm not that kind of romance reader you know I don't read the sexy stuff I think obviously everybody has their own comfort levels and I'm not trying to like belittle that I just I think I want people to be more open about their love for romance and to end this video appropriately I guess I don't have any real like hearty takeaways from this for myself but it was a fun experiment and I'm glad that I got to give some of these books a try but I have a couple of quotes for you guys when I was putting together the notes for this video I did some research on kind of why romance and why chiclet has been kind of maligned for so long and like looks down upon and I just I liked these quotes alive books don't have to be difficult to be valuable romances are not just about sex they're about personal growth in relationships and it is about seeing women at the center of the story and knowing that they're not there to lose and die but to triumph and win so I love romance and I hope that this inspired you to go and pick up some mass-market romances of your own let me know down in the comments below if you guys have read any mass-market mom romances give me some recommendations because I would love to read more and also tell me about your history with romance have you been hesitant to pick up romance books because you kind of feel ashamed of it I'd love to know I love you guys so much and until next timehello welcome back to my channel in this video I'm going to be reading five mass-market grocery store and WOM romances I had the idea to make this video over a year ago and have just been putting it off because no matter how much I'd like romance something like this definitely is not that enticing to me so I wanted to talk about that and talked a little bit about kind of romance and how far we've come as a society just briefly bear with me I feel like I have loved for romance ever since I was in middle school I started reading like paranormal romances because I was looking for more in the same vein as Twilight and from there I found a whole world of romance and all kinds of stuff via Kindle unlimited and even in some of the trade sized romances that you see today like Christina Lawrence the honeymooners and things like that but I still feel like whenever I enter a grocery store or a Target or Barnes and Noble I kind of hesitate to go to the romance section and pick up things like this is it because I think these are inherently worse I don't know I really don't know I mean I have to say they are definitely less appealing I guess to look at but I want to get over that and I feel like we as a society it should probably get over that right so that's sort of the goal of this video I went into a target I didn't buy these online and I decided that I would pick up mass-market paperbacks in a variety of genres and see if our mothers and our grandmothers door for people for people for mothers I don't know people before our time if they knew what the they were talking about when they picked up stuff like this so that's sort of the point of this video I mean there's not like a real a real point I just thought this would be kind of fun so we're gonna read these we're gonna see if these are any good and I'm definitely going to keep in mind as I read them if they are as good or better than the types of romances that I'd normally gravitate towards and hopefully at the end of this I can firmly say that you should start picking up books that have shirtless men on the cover so anyway without further ado let's talk about the five books and that I intend to read for this video the first one I have is one that I picked out that because this looked like something that my mom would pick up whenever I was young don't tell me your mom was too cool to read romance I don't give a my mom definitely was into you kind of like the Harlequin type romances and this one really looked like something I feel like I would have seen her read it is the Greek claim sit shock air by Lynn Graham I'd never have read a Harlequin romance before and I just feel like this could be fun it's only about 200 pages I'm wondering how much of a punch this can pack in those 200 pages so this should be interesting I also have all-american cowboy by Dylan crush this is a book that my sister picked out for me kind of as a gag gift slash joke whenever we did I sister picks my TBR video and I figured this is the perfect time to read it this is something that I feel like I do see especially in Texas women picking up like country cowboy romances these are like surprisingly popular especially on Goodreads I see a lot of people picking these up this has like over a four star rating so maybe this is gonna be the winner may be this is gonna be kick-ass I don't know I also have a paranormal to switch things up and this one I like because it's not taking itself too seriously it's called how to seduce a vampire without really trying by Caroline sparks got the hot shirtless dude on the cover and I don't know hopefully this will be kind of entertaining and or not super serious the next one is a classic in the romance genre in terms of authors I feel like definitely seen your grandma read some Nora Roberts and this is keep you close which is a bind up of night shift and might move I haven't really read the back of this but I'm only gonna pick one of these to read because it's two books and one and I don't want to read both and then lastly again this seems like something that someone's mom would do picking up a book that's going to be adapted for Netflix this is a cult classic historical romance and I know it's not in the mass-market size but I know it was originally published as a mass-market romance and it is the Dukan I buy usually a Quinn historical romance so we've got the whole variety pack you know of mass markets basically we've got it all working up find out if these are good really excited about this because the only real mass markets that I've read have been historical and I want to see if the other stuff is kick-ass too let's get reading okay so I am 50% into the Duke and I by Julia Quinn and this is the one that is going to be adapted for Netflix and that's kind of half the reason I picked this up I also just feel like that's such a mom thing to do right to like pick up a book that is gonna be adapted for TV especially when it is like a Regency romance so this is set in eighteen hundred's England which I'm pretty sure I told you guys at the beginning of this video but it is about Simon and Daphne Simon let me get his intro at the very beginning of this book in the prologue we basically get the idea that he has had a really a rough life growing up his father wanted nothing to do with him because he has a stutter and it definitely traumatized him it was really heartbreaking to read actually it definitely pulled the most emotional reaction out of me from this entire book was the prologue so he has kind of made a vow to himself that even though he's going to take over the title from his father now that his father has passed away he does not intend to marry and carry on the family line probably because of his past trauma that's kind of problematic because he's falling for Daphne and Daphne is falling for him Daphne as a part of a really big family very Jane Austen asked definitely got some Pride and Prejudice feels especially with the way that Daphne and as I met interact in the beginning of this novel you get sort of bad enemies two lovers by it that sort of banter he doesn't want to fall for her if she doesn't really want to fall for him either because he is like sworn off women so I'm liking it it's really good the only thing is that I'm kind of hesitant because I've heard that the ending of this book is kind of problematic I think this was written in like 2001 20 years ago so it's kind of it's difficult because I think I know what happens in this book and it's definitely not an excuse thing and it makes me sad that an author even 20 years ago would think that it's an acceptable thing to include you know I'm being very cryptic I will probably let you guys know how I feel about that thing that I think is gonna happen once I get to the end of this book I did watch Murphy and Napier's video on this book and why this is like her least favorite book that she read this entire year like I'm really enjoying the other content I think the writing is a little bit cheesy at times especially the way that Simon used Daphne Greene that just rims her brown eyes and I don't know I'm just stuff like that it's kind of over the top with the descriptions but it's a fun read I like the banter I think it's well written and even if this one lets me down at the end I think I would want to carry on with the series so I'm not gonna try to like get too far ahead of myself I'm enjoying it so far the the part where I'm at right now was like the the main conflict in the book because it Simon and Daphne have been caught in a compromising situation and she is trying to convince him to marry her she wants to marry him anyway but this is like the perfect excuse almost Simon is being very resistant I'm assuming he is going to relinquish all control and marry her but I don't know where things are gonna go from there but I'm interested to see because I've been doing this it's good so I finished the Duke and I and I can understand my Murphy and a lot of other readers especially in modern readers are not so pleased with the ending of this book I didn't want to get to spoilers but I just feel like it's necessary for this and I don't think that assault is a spoiler I'm just gonna be real with you guys Daphne our main character sexually assaults her husband because he says he does not want children he does not ever spill the seed inside of her because he doesn't know on children and Daphne is very naive she doesn't really understand the mechanics of having children and like what it takes to get pregnant so once she figures out that he's basically been lying to her about like conception she decides that she's going to forcibly take his seat and I don't know if it was premeditated or what but we definitely are there when it happens and if it was uncomfortable I mean it's a rape scene essentially I feel like I'd hear a lot of people you know talk about that and obviously it was not the author's intention for it to be a rape scene and so I was wondering if readers were kind of reading something into this that wasn't there but it certainly is unfortunately a sexual assault in our hero he sort of reflects after the fact and we do see him very unhappy what has occurred they end up like kind of separating for a little bit because of this and after some sort of like self-reflection and stuff he basically says that I shouldn't have been so pigheaded I definitely just wasn't listening to her and I was just trying to spite my father and so she was definitely in the right to do this basically it's kind of how he justifies it to himself and I was just like it's not okay regardless of if your thoughts and feelings have changed after the fact like now you do want children in the moment it was wrong her author could have done a lot to make there be doubt same conflict him not wanting children in a way that isn't problematic this was like the cheapest and easiest in a way way to do this she definitely could have separated them for a time Daphne does some self-reflection and realizes that she can't control other people and that just because she wants something her husband doesn't want like she she doesn't get to decide and then he could separately on his own decide that you know spite is not something that I want to have in my life and I don't want to live my life for my father anymore like I'm gonna have children and then they could come together and then be like well let's have kids now but that's not really what happened there's not a whole lot of development on the part of the character separately they kind of have to come together and talk things out which communication is important but development is a very personal thing as someone who's been in a relationship for 10 years I understand that yes you can grow and mature together but when it comes to your own self-identity and awareness that's something you have to develop on your own so it's really frustrating that the author chose to make it really cheap like have an assault and then they spend time apart don't do any self-reflection come back together fight some more and then eventually you say it let's have kids and just read this kind of lazy writing to me and I could be wrong but I think this might be Julia Quinn's debut novel well this is kind of a fail for me I don't know what I'd write this I it's sad because I really did like it besides the glaring not okay and Aang I think I'm gonna give it two stars it sounds pretty harsh I want to continue on with the series I'm hoping that she doesn't do that in the other books no no I don't even know if I can't in good conscience let me know what you guys would do in the comments down below like I would love to know your perspective and if the author didn't intend to condone this sort of action and I know that she probably didn't you know there's just there wasn't the same kind of just course that there is now so I'd be curious to see if like she's put out any statements since writing this I don't know I don't know where I'm going with this but like let me know if you were me do you read more from Julia Quinn I'm excited to still watch the Netflix adaptation and I'm hoping that they handle this issue in a much more tactful way and they've already made changes and it is a shondaland production so I'm assuming it's gonna be a lot more out of wit the times even though again that's a Regency romances so this might not have been the best last-minute pick but like that's just life sometimes so I'm going to carry on and read something else all right kids we're starting the Greek claims a shock air by Glynn Graham I don't know what this book is about so let me read you the brief paragraph that we have after learning of tycoon eros nerve raucous betrayal personal chef twini Mardis walks out of his life determined to never look back or reveal the child she's carrying a year later she's shocked when eros arrives to legitimize his heir swept away to his lavish Mediterranean villa when he is overwhelmed by the fire still burning between them but can she accept her new role as his convenient wife lose yourself in this dramatic secret baby story you know what that is what I intend to do did I pick this because it is 200 pages and I really want to just watch spinning out tonight yes I did so let's power through this let's let's let's do it okay so I'm on page 68 and I have much to think about this book is interesting essentially this guy knocks up this lady and guy is married at the time and so she freaks out and leaves him she falls pregnant with his son and doesn't tell him yo you knocked me up and then he finds out later and decides that he's going to try to find a way to like be with her and his son so sort of the premise of the book I will say doesn't fall into kind of problematic areas because our hero eros is a little bit and he didn't like actually consummate his marriage with his last wife it was just like a marriage of convenience kind of situation and or like he married her because her father asked him to weird if I guess that's good and I think since then he hasn't slept with anyone I think and he just really wants to get to know his kid which I mean fault him for that is this good it's not great but I will say the author's ability to make it a fairly convincing and interesting story in a 200 page book I really didn't think that I would be impressed by Harlequin romance but so far like it's pretty solid I think if I were to rate it right now I'd probably give it three stars it's nothing amazing but I do want them to get together and get married and like live happily ever after so I guess this story is serving its purpose ultimately this was pretty disappointing the first like 50 to 100 pages were pretty good but I really feel like this book could have been cut in half and still have had the same impact the last hundred pages were just them fighting over and over and over again like the couple and then the grandfather came into play as well because he was trying to like blackmail it was just kind of needless and nonsensical and I don't really want to go into the details because I don't feel like it's worth it but how do I feel about this as a whole I you know I respect Harlequin presents I feel like I've been a different book maybe it's like a slightly different premise it would have maybe been a better read because I really do like the idea of having a 200-page romance novel I feel like this is the predecessor for all of those likes muddy novels on Kindle unlimited it's definitely not as explicit as those but it definitely kind of a thought that same purpose it's like a short fun romance I think in the back of this book it says like we've got romance for you whenever you need it or something like that like that's a little tagline and you can find these literally anywhere so I can definitely see why people start out with these and why people like these so much they're pretty like no fuss and easy if these are characters I think that anyone's really gonna fall in love with and I don't think really any of the Harlequin presents romances are gonna be ones that you read time and time again but I think it's a fun escapist time I think it was fun to try something new and different that I literally would never have picked up had it not been for this video so even though this wasn't the best book I'm not I'm sad about having read it like I said my mom this is the kind of romance that she reads so I could kind of understand the appeal nails yeah and I mean look at this TV cover like the faces we love that done with this one I'm gonna go watch spinning out I think the next book let's pick a next book it's gonna be all American cowboy by Dylan crush time for me to crush this cowboy wrote me and said I've had all my shelves for too long so okay so I'm 67 pages into all American cowboy bad Dylan Krish and it's actually kind of cute it's about this girl named Charlie in Holiday Texas and she runs one of the oldest standing honky tonks in Texas the owner of the honky-tonk has died and she would love to take / but the guy I think his name is Sully the owner who died his grandson is technically the heir to the honky Tonk so he's coming down the city-slicker from New York to take over the honky Tonk and he wants to sell the joint and Charlie doesn't want that to happen so it's I'm assuming their romance it's gonna be you know kind of fun it's definitely not enemies two lovers which I kind of assumed that it would be given the synopsis on the back but it's actually just like these two people that are really attracted to each other and I'm sure it's going to be our city slicker a back to figuring out that he really likes the country and that he really likes Charlie so I'm excited about it definitely what I needed after the past couple of romances i've read because not only am i reading romances for this video I also have this other video coming I don't even really want to talk about the details of it but I'm reading 27 books romances specifically for it and all of them have been really bad so far I've read five at the 27th so anyway it's nice to just have something like fun and sweet and pretty well written so far so I am enjoying this I also have the audio book of it or audible escape which is super awesome I probably won't finish it tonight but like it's fine anyway I don't want cares no one cares when I finish these books but I have a FaceTime date later so I would be able to finish this book I will update you guys a little bit later on because I want to give you guys a better feel I'm like how I like the characters what's happening but so far so good all right y'all I am 283 pages into all-american cowboy by Dylan crush yes I'm gonna say it like that every time cuz I just think it's fun I am enjoying this I don't know why it took me a second to get that out but I'm seeing some issues with it but that's not really hindering my enjoyment I think it's gonna end up being a three star read for me the only issue that I'm really having the only reason this isn't gonna be like a four or five star is that I don't think the characters are super well developed or fleshed out and I also feel like the pacing and the plotting of this book is a little bit strange we get Bex coming into town and meeting Charlie they kind of hit it off immediately and then they sort of fight and argue a little bit so there's sort of an enemy's two lovers for like a quarter of the book after that they kind of immediately start banging and then I'm like where that where's the rest of this book gonna go we still have over 100 pages they're already together and I'm not saying that I want my characters to only be together at the very end of the book but I just it seems a little bit strange to get them together so early on the relationship seems very low stakes to me it doesn't seem like the conflicts that they're setting up is gonna be something that is particularly thanks I had nowhere else to go with that but that's fine I mean I knew this was gonna be kind of like a good time sweet I mean it's a cowboy romance I think it would have benefited a little bit more for them to have like more do some more attention and a little bit more enemies to lovers I guess I like the details that are included actually like in the book you don't know if you guys can see this but there's like a little pig right here and there's like it kind of runs across the page because the honky Tonk has like a mascot name to babyback that's special I don't know I just the details are very cute and campy and I think if you're looking before kind of like a small-town cowboy romance it's just really cute I'm gonna finish it and try to withhold my judgement until then but I'm liking it so far it's not a perfect read I didn't expect this to be the perfect read but it's fun again I feel like I shouldn't be embarrassed to pick this up you know what I mean like it's fun if I go to a target and I want to cowboy romance I'm gonna pick this up I don't really know where I'm going with this if you like the whole point of this video was like you know me trying to prove that romance is like good and I know we all know that romance is good I think we just only like look past the covers you know that being said I think this is actually kind of cute cover I'm gonna continue reading I don't think I said it but we're on a tornado watch here so I got out of work early it's a Friday it's like noon I'm gonna read this and then start in on how does to do the vampire Without Really Trying all right Cowboys we've reached the end of this country road I have finished all American cowboy by Dylan crash I think I am going to stick with a three star rating for this book I thought it was cute I think that our hero took too long to kind of realize who the villain was in his life so that was a little bit frustrating but it wasn't egregious like he definitely learned the error of his ways and now he's gonna be taking care of this honky tonks Oh yeehaw we're done with that now we can talk about the fever dream that is how to seduce vampire without really trying by Carolyn sparks I am like only 30 pages into this and it has already been a trip so our hero Zoltan a vampire who lives in Transylvania of course he is trying to find out who murdered his father like hundreds of years ago because he has been alive for all of human history at apparently Zoltan decides to go and find these people because he has the arrow that his father was killed with and he's like whoever made this arrow obviously killed my dad he comes across these female warriors and Fiona is looking for a mate apparently the Warriors have been depleted their only female warriors they need to have some more I guess she basically shoots this guy down she's sue she'd salt I'm down I don't even know if she shoots him I think she might just beat him up he wakes up there her trying to feel on his crotch and he's like what are you doing and she said I can explain and she says I plan to take your seed and that's where the chapter ended that's the third chapter of this book second chapter so interesting the lore and the setup has been very weird Zoltan he can speak to animals conveniently which you know helped him find these warriors because this dog helped him because he could hear his thoughts and there's where bears and all matter of supernatural folk afoot it's interesting also ignore the hair beginning was a little confusing I think I know where this book is going now they were gonna trying to get to know each other and maybe I'll give her or your baby I don't know this is so ridiculous apparently this is the 15th book in this series it seems like it is very it's meaning to be humorous it's not taking itself too seriously which I mean I think you can kind of tell from the title but the author's note kind of says something like literally thank you for reading all 14 of these books like I can't believe I'm still getting published so how oldest son is in and out today I'm all over the place I'm gonna keep reading this and once I get about halfway I'll tell you guys more about how I feel but I have no idea what what's happening this man fully keeps a mummy in his Transylvanian castle and it's the mummy of his dead mother mummy okay that's bad joke I guess I can update you guys now cuz I'm like halfway if done it's really silly but also kind of trying to be serious I don't even know how to describe this he is trying to woo this Amazonian warrior princess it's like bringing her things and trying to convince her that he's worthy of being her mate rather than just a seed donor that's kind of what the story is okay sorry for like the very close angle but if I get farther back you're just going to see a stripe of light on my face okay so I finished how does it do some vampire Without Really Trying I don't think I've learned as much from this as I had hoped I really wanted to learn helpful tips on how to seduce a man prior and sadly that was just not I was not in here this book carried on exactly as I thought it would he basically just tries to move this chick and there's some sort of like conflict when there is this like evil warrior dude who is like after not vampires but anyway they kind of like I think one of the characters gets captured and it didn't really matter i scammed a lot i'm not gonna lie to you I skimmed whatever I mean I liked the touches that brought it in you know there was a Hello Kitty watch that he brought his his mate other than that though I just wasn't really about impressed with this and I looked up reviews and was wondering if like maybe it's just my seasonal depression affecting my view of this book but a lot of people said that they thought that this was one of Carolyn Sparks weaker books in this series so I guess the other ones are good I don't know this was a 3-star for me it was not objectively bad it was kind of fun to read and also I kind of skimmed because I was getting kind of bored you know this video is not going how I planned but that just happened sometimes I guess we're gonna move on to the classic the queen of romance especially a grocery store or mom Rome you know we have Nora Roberts and this is the keep you close bind up a night shift in Night Moves and do these are romantic suspense novels so we're gonna read night shift and I'll read you've a little blurb on the back it said her voice is like whiskey smooth and potent but it's her contradictions that fascinate detective Boyd Fletcher the vulnerability beneath her tough-as-nails facade late night radio announcer sila O'Rourke is being threatened by a sinister caller and it's Boyd's job to protect her no matter what but the sultry deejay gets under his skin and the undeniable chemistry that sizzles between them makes the detective uneasy I'm into that I'm hoping it's a convincing romantic suspense novel I don't normally a pickup romantic suspense I usually read like a dark romance if I want that where I just read a thriller but wondering what this is gonna be like I did find an audiobook of this thank god this video has been held to fill but not gonna lie to you guys I'm just like can I have a good romance can I please have a good Romeo's and I know there's good mom moms out there there definitely are dark lover jr. word comes in the mass-market paperbacks and I know they're readily available don't it's not like there's not good stuff out there I just happened to pick all of the stuff it isn't to my liking so that's on me but it took this video I just want you to know I would usually be more like fun and enthusiastic but I've just been mostly bored I'm gonna start in on this and I'll let you guys know kind of how I'm feeling it's about 100 pages then okay I'm a seventy pages into a night shift by Nora Roberts and I'm actually really enjoying this once I first read this in topsis and it kind of got a couple pages into the book it caught me in such a 90s headspace which is interesting because I think this bind up was published in like 2005 but I looked and apparently nightshift was originally published in 1992 I won a rita award for romantic suspense apparently some people liked it and thought it was good and so this was originally written in the 90s and has such a 90s feel to it like I said we've got our radio DJ who's got this smooth sexy voice someone is calling in to her station during like the song request portion of her show and is basically threatening to kill her and calling her like a and things like that so it's interesting and she teams up with this detective and they're trying to figure out you know who this person is and trying to attract if there's anyone in SOLAS life that is you know trying to harm her so like I said it's so it's like an intangible thing I can't really describe what feel so 90's about this probably the fact that it is that radio DJ thing I like the banter between our heroine and our detective Boyd I believe his name is yeah Boyd Fletcher everything that I needed I didn't know that I needed this but I'm really really enjoying it it kind of makes me want to go and read Nora Roberts like 90s back list of romantic suspense I think that's primarily one or Robert's rights which I didn't know for some reason like you see something like this and you don't think suspense you definitely think like oh it's just gonna be nights and rodanthe type old-lady romance I don't know but that's definitely know what this is so I didn't think I would need to update you guys but this woman's mouth has been described as hot and moist and ripe with flavor don't love that that's the one thing that I've noticed in most of these romances is that the like sexy seems try to be descriptive without using words like dick to me it's like why even use euphemism because it's even more uncomfortable than just using like the actual words that people use okay so I just finished a night shift by Norm Probert I think I'm gonna give this three stars I actually really enjoyed it gave me all the 90s nostalgia there was just so much of that I didn't expect it was like kind of quiet and comforting even though this was like a romantic suspense novel we do find out who is trying to kill our main character Scylla and obviously she enters into a romantic relationship with detective Boyd there wasn't a whole lot of plot going on here most of the story kind of happens between our two main characters there isn't a ton of whodunit and let's solve this mystery especially near kind of the middle and end of the book it seems like we get this kind of exposition get our two main characters falling for each other and then we get this really quick wrap-up at the end and to be honest for a 200 in like 45 page book I wasn't really upset about that formula it worked really well but I do think Nora Roberts did a convincing job at kind of getting you to understand why Scylla is sort of closed off to love and romance why detective point is the right one to like break her down and like you know break through her so to say walls that sounds a little bit actual nature and break through her emotional barriers if you will this was really cute glad I read this I kind of think I might end up reading Night Moves at some point too I just kind of like the quietness of Nora Roberts writing I listened to a novella from her for my Christmas romance reading vlog but I didn't love but I appreciated and this one I appreciated even more every we do think if I look at like a list of best Nora Roberts books and pick one from that I'll be even more impressed so I'm glad I read this especially since she is one of the most prolific romance authors out there and she's still kicking itself is really nice to pick this up I'm glad that I did but that kind of concludes this video I have read five mass-market romances and I don't know that this experiment went exactly as I had planned I didn't really set out to achieve any super big goals I guess my point in making this video was that we should step outside of our comfort zone a little bit and that romance is really an important staple and it has been in a lot of women's lives for with a long time and then as we progressed more as a society if we should be more accepting and more excited about romance and not have to justify it with well this one has a pretty Illustrated cover and I can pick that one up Ori this doesn't have sexually explicit scenes so I'm some he'll know I'm like I'm not that kind of romance reader you know I don't read the sexy stuff I think obviously everybody has their own comfort levels and I'm not trying to like belittle that I just I think I want people to be more open about their love for romance and to end this video appropriately I guess I don't have any real like hearty takeaways from this for myself but it was a fun experiment and I'm glad that I got to give some of these books a try but I have a couple of quotes for you guys when I was putting together the notes for this video I did some research on kind of why romance and why chiclet has been kind of maligned for so long and like looks down upon and I just I liked these quotes alive books don't have to be difficult to be valuable romances are not just about sex they're about personal growth in relationships and it is about seeing women at the center of the story and knowing that they're not there to lose and die but to triumph and win so I love romance and I hope that this inspired you to go and pick up some mass-market romances of your own let me know down in the comments below if you guys have read any mass-market mom romances give me some recommendations because I would love to read more and also tell me about your history with romance have you been hesitant to pick up romance books because you kind of feel ashamed of it I'd love to know I love you guys so much and until next time\n"
