**OnePlus X Review: A Mixed Bag of Performance and Features**

The OnePlus X is a smartphone that promises to deliver a premium experience at an affordable price. However, in our review, we found that while it looks fantastic, its performance and features are a mixed bag.

**Frame Loss and Gaming Performance**

We started by testing the device's gaming performance. The OnePlus X scores a 38885 on the AnTuTu benchmark test, which can be considered a mediocre score compared to other devices in the market. While this is not necessarily bad, it does indicate that the device may not be as powerful as some of its competitors. We also noticed that the device tends to experience frame loss while playing games on the rear area near the logo, making it slightly uncomfortable to hold and operate.

**Design and Build Quality**

One of the standout features of the OnePlus X is its design and build quality. The phone's glass back and rubberized cover make it feel premium in the hand. However, we did notice that the device tends to heat up from the rear area near the logo, especially when running intensive applications or gaming. This can be mitigated by using the included cover, which prevents the heat from hitting your hand due to its seal nature.

**Camera Performance**

The camera on the OnePlus X is another area where it falls short. The 13-megapixel sensor along with three shooting modes - Beauty mode, ClearShot mode, and HDR mode - seem promising in theory. However, in practice, the camera performs poorly, especially in low light conditions. While the images taken by the camera are not terrible, they lack detail and consistency. Additionally, clicking the same subject twice will give you different results, but this is largely due to software processing issues rather than a problem with the sensor itself.

**Video Recording**

The OnePlus X also lacks 4K video recording capabilities, which is a significant drawback for any smartphone. The camera only allows for 1080p video recording, and even then, it's limited to 120fps slow-mo video, which looks terrible and dark. This will not be appreciated by anyone who's used slow-mo on devices like iPhones or Motorola phones.

**Network Capability**

The OnePlus X also seems to be taking a hit in terms of network capability. Networks are not as strong as they could be, with LTE bands 12 and 17 missing from the device. This means that if you travel extensively, you may find yourself without 4G connectivity in certain areas.

**Battery Life**

However, the battery life on the OnePlus X is good, and you can easily last through a full day without worrying about running out of power. You'll get around 4-5 hours of talk time on the device, which is decent for a smartphone.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, the OnePlus X is a fantastic-looking phone with only okay specifications on the inside. While it looks premium and has some impressive features like a glass back and rubberized cover, its performance and camera capabilities are major letdowns. The SD card issue is also a significant problem, as you can only use one SIM card if you're using an SD card. Overall, we would recommend looking elsewhere for devices that offer more bang for your buck, especially at this price point.

**The OnePlus X vs. Other Devices**

If you want to compare the OnePlus X to other devices in the market, it's worth noting that it lags behind some of its competitors in terms of performance and features. The Motorola G4 Plus, for example, offers a more powerful processor and better camera capabilities than the OnePlus X. Similarly, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Prime offers a faster processor and more impressive battery life.

**The Future of OnePlus**

OnePlus' motto is "Never Settle", but in our review, it seems like they've been settling for certain issues that are common among many smartphones. The lack of NFC and quick charging capabilities on the OnePlus X is becoming increasingly normative in the industry. Additionally, the camera performance and network capability issues suggest that the company may need to revisit their software development priorities.

**Final Verdict**

The OnePlus X is a phone that promises much but delivers only partially. While it looks premium and has some impressive features, its performance and camera capabilities are major letdowns. If you're looking for a smartphone that offers more bang for your buck, we would recommend looking elsewhere. However, if you value the look and feel of the OnePlus X, then it may still be worth considering.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is the OnePlus X the company's second phone in 2015 and their third phone overall from a design and premium look aspect the OnePlus X completely takes off in a different direction from the OnePlus 1 and the OnePlus 2 Hardware seems to be dated and there are some issues with the device so is the OnePlus X worth your 16,999 in India or the US 249 price tag that it has does it make a lot of sense to buy the OnePlus X or is last year's OnePlus One a better bet my name is bat nagpal for ranin and we're going to be reviewing the new OnePlus X the OnePlus X will be available in another variant which is the ceramic variant we're currently looking at the Onyx variant which is not only the cheaper one but makes more sense if any from a build quality and design aspect the OnePlus X is quite appreciable both on the front and the back of the device is Gorilla Glass 3 which is extremely solid and extremely scratch resistant the device is so slippery that you'll often find it slipping off things that you keep it on if your surface has even a slight angle you'll see the OnePlus X slipping away from it that being said the company does include a free back cover which is highly recommended if you don't want your device falling all over the place design- wise the OnePlus X also has rounded glass on both sides which feels excellent when you're using the device it curves over to the metal frame of the device which also has metal sides and pin stripes on these metal sides which not only make it look premium but give it additional grip when you're holding the phone the volume rocker and the power button have an opposite texture so they're easily identified while holding the OnePlus X on the opposite side a completely ribbed notification button allows you to switch from no notifications priority notifications or all notifications the cutout for the micro USB port along with with speaker holes are extremely precise and the device in overall mimics the design of the iPhone 4 or the 4S the device is extremely glossy and will attract a lot of fingerprints so be ready to find yourself wiping this phone often if fingerprints are an issue for you now as far as Hardware is concerned the device comes with a Snapdragon 801 which is the same as the Snapdragon 801 found in the OnePlus 1 the OnePlus X however has a slightly lower 2.3 GHz clock versus the 2.5 on the OnePlus 1 you get the same 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB storage with 128 G micro SD card expandability where the OnePlus One had either 16 or 64 GB inbuilt options without micro SD card expandability you get a 13 megapix face detect autofocus camera on the OnePlus X which in theory is a better camera however we found it to be otherwise you also only get 1080p video whereas the OnePlus one with the same chipset processor and camera sensor can shoot 4K video batter is also lower with 2525 milliamp hours versus the 3,100 found on the OnePlus 1 so for 1,000 rupees more with pure Hardware in perspective the OnePlus 1 seems to be a better option the OnePlus X also has a smaller 5in display which is an AMOLED display giving it 441 pixels per inch and a higher pixel density than the 5.5 in display of the OnePlus 1 now in theory the AMOLED display is supposed to give you punchier colors and deeper blacks which is the case with the OnePlus X however the white point of the display is completely off and while most companies like Samsung in HTC when they offer AMOLED displays allow you to change the color modes of the device from the settings panel this is not the case with the OnePlus and you'll need to find thirdparty applications and tweaks to sort of calibrate the white point of the display if a bluish tint is a problem for you the OnePlus X shifts with oxygen OS 2.1 with a quick update putting it to 2.1.2 it offers most of the same features that you found on the cage version but it does not offer a lot of customizations and tweaks that were offered on Cyanogen OS while on the OnePlus One the OS is quite responsive and you still get features like double tap to wake the screen a circle to start the camera from the lock screen or a v gesture to sort of start the flashlight from the lock screen as well between themes you have a dark theme and a light theme and that's about it if you want customizations you'll need to download third party applications the OS does Crash from time to time but it more or less feels like stock Android more than anything else one of the biggest disadvantages on the device is the lack of backlight on the touch capacitive buttons which sit below the display this becomes really problematic especially if you're using the phone at night it becomes really difficult to use the device the Notification Toggle which is the Hardware switch sits on the left of the OnePlus X and allows you to switch between priority notifications all notifications or no notifications so it's like a mute switch with an additional option the OnePlus X also supports 128 GB micro SD cards but due to a current software glitch the SD card does not show up in the main storage of the device while it will prep the SD card no matter if you insert a 2 GB SD card or 128 GB SD card it tends to not show up in the system store St and hence you can't move applications to it using a third party application allows you to store data onto the SD card that means the SD card is in the software somewhere but it does not show up on the device a quick software update from OnePlus should fix this and they should probably be already working on this there are some software features which can be appreciated like customization of the LED light for various sort of notifications along with the ability to switch between a dark theme and a light theme you also get things like button customizations and shelf which sits on the leftmost dashboard of the home screen these things can come in handy for those who use them and seem to be a great add-on on oxygen OS as seen on the OnePlus 2 now as far as performance is concerned the OnePlus X will perform really well in day-to-day operations if you're using your phone for General usage making calls sending texts using things like WhatsApp Facebook Instagram Etc the phone will not disappoint you at all the minute you jump into things like high-end gaming performance starts to take a big hit while gaming performance is up there and you'll appreciate it to some level for those who are extreme Gamers will'll find the lag unbearable the device does stutter and there is a bit of frame loss while playing games on the OnePlus X the device scores a 38885 on and22 which can be considered a mixed score while the OnePlus One is capable of scoring a lot more that being said a score of 38,000 is not all that bad the device also tends to heat up from the rear area near the logo making it slightly uncomfortable to hold and operate the device now this will not be the case if you are putting the phone in the included cover which is essentially rubberized and prevents the heat from hitting your hand due to the seal nature and the glass back the heat transfers from the device to the outside quite easily and you'll also feel it quite frequently on your hand if you're running intensive applications or gaming a lot the camera is another big let down on the OnePlus X where the 13 megapix sensor along with three shooting modes the beauty mode the clearshot mode and the HDR mode in theory are fantastic and in good and well-lit conditions perform really well in low light conditions is where the camera suffers majorly and while the three additional shooting modes provide some additional tweaks the overall result from the images is not completely consistent and while clicking the same subject twice will give you different results the main camera capture capability suffers a lot and this seems to be due to the way the images are processed on the software this could mostly be fixed by a quick software update from the company but the sensor seems to be too tiny and does not capture a lot of detail in the images another big letdown is the fact that 4K video is not allowed on the camera while the OnePlus One could shoot 4K video you also get an option of slow-mo video which further lets down the resolution from 1080p to 720p for 120 frames per second slowmo video looks terrible and really dark and will not be appreciated by anyone who's used slow-mo on things like an iPhone or M roller devices phone and network capability on the OnePlus X also seems to be taking a hit while networks are not that strong on the OnePlus x l networks are fully supported in countries like India but if you travel a lot LTE band 12 and 17 are missing from the OnePlus X and those in the US will not appreciate this this means that if you're in the US using AT&T's network you will not be able to use LTE while this does not affect anyone who lives in India it seems that by now a device coming with restricted LTE is a bit of an issue Network strength overall seems to be lower than comparable devices even the OnePlus One tends to get reception in areas where the OnePlus X suffers while audio quality on the receiving as well as the sending ends seem to be excellent when networks are great Network overall does not seem to be satisfying the battery life on the OnePlus X is good and you'll last through a full day without worrying about it too much if you're an extensive user you'll find yourself charging the device by 6PM if you start your day early that being said you get 4 to 5 hours of talk time on the OnePlus X the OnePlus X is a Fant fantastic looking phone with only okay specifications on the inside the price that it's available at it still surpasses many of the other devices in the market but there are certain major letdowns the camera is not the best performer the SD card seems to be an issue if you're using an SD card you can only use one sim card whereas the phone supports two SIM cards Network seems to be a major issue on the device as well if with some sort of magic OnePlus can fix these issues with the software update which seems highly unlikely the OnePlus X turns out to be a fantastic device while the SD card issue seems to be only temporary and a software update will fix it the camera will never be a great camera and the device will never be a great performer the OnePlus X is a pretty looking phone and it stops just about there if you want more bang and hardware for your buck you might want to look elsewhere especially towards the likes of Motorola xiaomi or even the first generation OnePlus One when it comes down to this price bracket while oneplus's motto is never settle it seems like in the past two devices all we have been doing is settling with things that are missing from the device or problems that seem to occur with their Hardware the OnePlus X also lacks NFC and quick charging capabilities which sort of is becoming a norm nowadays as far as the OnePlus X is concerned it looks good and it looks a lot more premium than it is but on the inside it is just an average guy if you have any more questions
