Racing in Halloween Costumes

The Drift King: A Night Out with RC Cars and Costumes

As I stepped out of my car and onto the MR2's back lot, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia. My parents had brought over a collection of RC cars that I hadn't run in years, and it was time to break them out and see what they could do. The first car up was a drift king, aptly named DK, which went straight up as soon as the throttle was applied. "Oh damn, easy dude, oh good that was pretty sick," I exclaimed, feeling a rush of adrenaline.

As I worked on getting the car ready to take out for a spin, I couldn't help but notice the various modifications that had been made to it over the years. The grill and bumper were off, which explained why they were acting as a makeshift ramp for my hatchback. I had to use some force to get them back in place, as I had lost all the screws and was having trouble getting everything aligned properly. "I just lost all the screws," I admitted, "and also something was rubbing against this boot, so I wasn't sure what was causing it to almost rip through."

After a few minutes of tinkering, I finally figured out the issue - a small tab that was digging into the boot and causing the problem. I quickly cut it off and replaced the bumper, feeling relieved that the car was starting to come together. "Tonight we're going to take the car out to Mexico again and get some races in," I said to myself, feeling a sense of anticipation.

As I prepared for the night's racing, I couldn't help but think about the variety of cars that would be competing. There wouldn't be any high-powered street cars like the ones I was used to, but rather more down-to-earth models that would provide a fun and challenging course for me to navigate. "We're not going to put on the slicks," I decided, "because they get used up too fast." Instead, we'd stick with the skinny tires, which would provide better grip and handling.

As I looked around at the various cars and people gathered in the area, I couldn't help but notice the costume contest. There was Charlie in a Spider-Man onesie, Olie the ostrich, and even another Subaru that had been decorated to look like it had blood splatters all over it. "Sick," one of the onlookers said, nodding in approval.

As we made our way back to the starting line, I couldn't help but feel a sense of camaraderie with my friends. We were all there for the same reason - to have fun and enjoy some good racing. And as we took off down the track, I felt a rush of excitement and adrenaline. "This is what it's all about," I said to myself, grinning from ear to ear.

But as we approached the final corner, disaster struck. One of our competitors, an STI, came careening out of nowhere and nearly rear-ended us. Luckily, my car held up well, but it was a harrowing experience nonetheless. "That was close," I said, shaking my head in amazement.

Despite the close call, we managed to finish off the night with a few more decent races under our belt. As we pulled back into the starting line, I felt a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. It had been a fun night out, despite some mishaps along the way. And as I looked over at Olie, who was still going strong in his ostrich onesie, I couldn't help but laugh.

"That was right," I said to myself, grinning from ear to ear. "We may not have won any races, but we definitely had fun."
