Best Tablet Stand 2014 - Ergotech Universal VersaStand

The Versa Stand: A Universal Tablet Stand Review

If you rely on your tablet for optimal utilization of your desktop setup, this product is perfect for social interaction and provides additional screen real estate that complements productivity for office or home use. Arotech has just released their universal tablet stand, which is made to be flexible with mounting as designed by them. The bracket itself can be attached to complimenting monitor arms and is not limited to being a standalone product. This 2-piece stand will set you back $30, which is roughly in the ballpark of how much your tablet cases cost.

Investing in quality stands doesn't sound unreasonable, especially when compared to competing tablet stands. The Versa stand seems to stand out for many reasons. The base station is fully aluminum, like with all of Arotech's products. Everything feels solid from the three articulating joints to the swo feet and to the secure port. Although not made entirely portable, the stand falls all the way in, and included is a carry pouch for scratch-free transportation.

The mounting bracket itself is plastic with an aluminum secure mechanism and also has a built-in magnet. There is a large rubber pad in the center and two clamping edges that are also rubberized for secure hold of the device. The name Universal is indicative of the size this will support, as any tablet with a minimum of 6 inches and maximum of 8 inches in width is supported by the Versa stand. This covers a wide spectrum of devices, including Samsung offerings, Nexus line, and all Apple iPads.

To mount the tablet, you press the side button to release the extended bracket, adjust the size, and then tightly press both sides before squeezing the release mechanism on the stand under the magnetic backing of the bracket. You're basically good to go with very simple and intuitive setup. There's also a large cable out at the bottom of the bracket for routing your power cables, which is very thoughtful.

The flexibility of maneuver is quite versatile. We first have full 360° rotation plus any adjustment on the three articulating joints for reading mode, typing mode, and aligning it with your computer screen mode. The only thing I think is missing is the ability to lock the rotation as it's not very resistive. Other than that, our Nexus 7 was just a treat to work with in this orientation.

We can also adjust the width of the feet depending on how much space we have on our desk without sacrificing the stability of the entire system. Although I would love to see the tablet bracket get smaller perhaps in future iterations as one of the ends is definitely not low profile and is actually quite bulky. But overall, I'm happy to say this is one damn good value tablet stand.

If you constantly use your tablets for social interaction and media, you should consider getting one of these for your space.
