Testing Out the iMac and Vlogging Camera
I've started transferring some footage from my camera to edit on this new solid state drive, which I'll test out directly for performance. Normally, I do editing off of external drives, but today I'm going to edit directly off the SSD just to see how it handles it. The 1080p webcam I'm using is a new one, and I actually made most of my first YouTube videos on this exact same camera, which was attached to my MacBook laptop.
Testing Out the Webcam
I've started testing out this new webcam by purposely putting myself in front of the light source, making myself backlit. Normally, in other webcams, this would cause issues with adjusting the lighting that's behind me, resulting in a dark and not-so-great video quality. However, this webcam seemed to handle it quite well. I'm excited to do some FaceTime calls on here and maybe even call my sister. Let's see what she's doing.
FaceTime Call with Jenna
I've called Jenna, who was not aware that I was using a new device. She asked if I could reveal the type of device I was on, and after some hesitation, she decided to take a peek. The device did look good, but she wasn't entirely sure what it was. We chatted for a bit about my camera and audio quality, which sounded great according to her.
Specs of the iMac
I've also realized that I didn't mention the specs of this new iMac in my previous video. This machine is powered by a 3.6 gigahertz, 10-core Intel Core i9 processor, with 64 gigs of RAM and an AMD Radeon Pro 5700XT graphics card. It's a pretty solid iMac, and things are going quite well.
Streaming Setup
I plan on moving this iMac to my streaming station, where I've been streaming on my iMac Pro so far. The new 27-inch iMac starts at $1,799, which is a good value considering all the features it offers in an all-in-one device. There are three different models available: the 3.1 gigahertz 6-core processor model starting at $1,799, the 3.3 gigahertz 6-core model with TurboBoost to 4.8 gigahertz and 512 gigs of storage for $2,099, and the top-of-the-line 3.8 gigahertz 8-core processor model with TurboBoost and 512 gigs of storage starting at $2,299.
Nano Texture Glass Option
One additional feature available on this iMac is nano texture glass, which adds an extra $500 to the price tag. I think nano texture glass would be a nice touch, but it's definitely worth considering for those who want the latest and greatest features.
Completed Edit
I've just completed my edit, and I'm excited to share it with you guys in my next video. If you haven't subscribed to my YouTube channel yet, please do so as soon as possible. And if you enjoyed this video, be sure to hit that like button and leave any questions about the iMac in the comments below. I'll try to answer them in my next video.
Streaming Set Up on iMac
I'll also be doing a streaming setup on this new iMac, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, thanks for watching, and I'll see you guys in my next video.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en(electronic music)- Hey guys, it's Justine, and today I'm gonna be showing youthe brand new iMac thatApple just announced. This is a brand new 5K 27inch Retina Display model. And it also has somethingvery, very special.Much like the new Pro Displaysthat you guys have seen, you now have the optionto configure this modelwith a nano texture display. And what this does is itgives you that matte finish, but not just any matte finish.I have been editing on the Pro Display XDRfor quite a while. And the difference betweenediting on that nano textureand the regular Retinaon my previous iMac Pro,it is honestly like night and day.Anyway, this is the new 27 inch iMac.It's 65% faster with 6,8, and 10-core processors. There's two differentconfigurations for graphics,55% faster GPU.You can also configureit up to 128 gigs of ram.I love that they're now includingsolid state drives acrossall models, and you can also configure itup to eight terabytes. And this is a really hugeupgrade, especially for the iMac,because I feel like a lotof people are using thisfor so many different things, whether it's video editing, editing photos, evenjust doing Zoom calls. No matter what you're doing, having a solid state driveis so much more efficientand much faster. And again, we're talkingabout the regular iMac,not the iMac Pro.The iMac Pro is obviously geared way moretowards professionals, but a lot of the thingsthat that iMac Pro hasis now trickling downinto the iMac at a much lower price.I feel like the times now haveshifted so significantly toeveryone working from home, and an iMac I feel likeis a really great family type computer. We had iMacs growing up all throughwhen I lived with my parents. And it was really greatbecause that sort of was thecenterpiece to kind of like our household. And even back then, which I don't wanna,it was quite a while ago at this point, and even back then, like having this computer,we would watch shows on it.I would do homework, my sisterswould do their homework,my dad would be reading the news,my mom would be using it for her work.So I feel like now even more than ever, because everybody is home, having this one sort of centraldevice that really can doeverything is incredible.I think now the problem isnow that everybody's home, everybody's gonna wanna have an iMac.(electronic music)Even for me, even thoughI just got this one,I still use my iMac Pro a lot.Granted I do have one of theMac Pros and I know I'm kind ofin sort of a unique situationwhere my job basicallyrevolves around reviewing technologyand editing and production. This is kind of an unlikely situation, but the fact that I do have aMac Pro and I do sometimes endup gravitating towards my iMac Probecause it really is all in one.It has the webcam built in,it has incredible speakers.I don't have to do anything,I just push a button.Everything that I wantto use with the Mac Pro,it's all external. So if I want to add a webcam,I have to add a microphone,I have to add speakers. So you don't get that sortof just out of the box, ready to go.And with the new iMac,they did finally upgrade the webcam.I mean, this is seriously crazybecause it's something thateven now, people didn't usethe webcams as much as they do now. There has been a shortage of webcams.I bought a Logitech webcam, maybe like four months ago,two and a half months later, it canceled. They said that they didn'thave any and they couldn't sendit to me, I was like, that's crazy. The things that we took forgranted before, like a webcam. So having this new upgraded webcam,I think is very important. They also have an upgraded microphone. It's studio quality. It's a three mic array. It also has the Hey Siri integration, which I surprisingly do usemore than you would think.I know a lot of people, myself included, have come veryaccustomed to being able totalk to your devices, especially with the HomePodand Alexa and Google. All of these things has justmade it so simple to starttalking to your devices. The speakers and the webcamare now working in conjunctionwith the T2 Security Chip.So with the webcam,it's automatically adjustingfor exposure, focus. It has enhanced tone mapping. It's working with face detection. So that's to help improvea lot of the Zoom calls, the Webex calls, the Teamsmeetings, the Facetimes, whatever it is that you're doingto get through your day forwork or fun or whatever it is.So the webcam has been updated. And even in my little bitof time in testing this, you can definitely tellthat it does adjustvery quickly for exposure. So it definitely does help out if you arein lower light situations. And there's one thing that Ihave noticed quite a lot abouta lot of these conferencecalls that I've been on.Some people just still cannot figure outfinding the good light is very important.Put yourself towards a window,or just put a little lighton you, it goes a long way.So the nano texturedglass that is on this iMacis very similar to the Pro Display XDRs.And that's an extra thousand dollarswhen you upgrade the Pro displayand for the iMac is an extra $500.But honestly, if you areconsidering getting this,I can't even tell youhow incredible it looks.Like you might be just like,Justine, you're a fan girl. You're just feeding in togiving Apple more money. This is worth it.Especially if you do work from home,I feel like it's so mucheasier on your eyes.It completely eliminates glareand everything justlooks so much more crisp, especially if you're doingphoto editing or video. It's just really hard toeven explain if you've neverexperienced this.I would tell you to go to theApple Store and check it out,but COVID.Also the microphone onthis is really good. And I think that's one of thethings that Apple has beenalso focusing on,obviously with the updated microphonesin their MacBook line. The speakers sound incredible.I was watching some moviesand playing some games on an Apple Arcade.I just forget how loudthose speakers can get. Also with the T2 Security Chip,it's enhancing the balance, the fidelity, and it has a deeper bass. And when I was watchingsome of these shows,I was putting that volume all the way up.And I was really surprisedhow loud these speakers are.Since I do edit a lot on my iMac Pro,I usually do edit at max volume. So I'm gonna be editing this entire videothat you're watching here on the iMac.The rest of this video isgonna be kind of a day in thelife of me and the iMac back there.Happy editing day.So the iMac is still over herein my studio shooting area, which is a complete disaster, but welcome to the vlogportion of this video. This is gonna be moved overto a desk so that I can startediting this video. And let's just take a moment to rememberthis has an SD card slot. And that's glorious.(upbeat music)This is true talent, right here.I already see the nano texture,so I'm basically pointingthis directly up at my lights. And when I'm looking at this straight on,there is absolutely noglare, no reflection. It's beautiful.Let's get this thingpowered on, start editing.A lot of stuff that I shoot, like the sit down deskstuff is all recordedto a solid state drive. So I use the Atomos Ninja 5.So we're not actuallyrecording to SD cards, but some of the shots that my sistergot using the Edelkrone.Behind the scenes of shooting the Mac Pro,getting some cool Edelkrone shots.Jenna's the Edelkrone pro.- Not really.- Getting the shots. It looks really cool.- Yeah, it's nice.- Those were actuallyrecorded to an SD card. And right now I'm recordingusing the Sony Sv-1.I've been dying to test this camera outin sort of a shootingvlogging situation like this.So this is kind of like atwo part video test for me.I'm testing out the iMacand also testing outthe vlogging camera. But this of course is alsorecording on an SD card.So let's start transferring some footage.Normally I do edit off of external drives, but today I am gonna editdirectly off the solid state drivejust to test out the performanceand see how it handles it.(upbeat music)Testing out that new 1080p webcam.I actually made most of myfirst YouTube videos on theiSight camera on oneof my MacBook laptops. So me and this webcam, we have a history. So in this webcam test,I was purposely puttingmyself in front of the light. So basically I was making myself backlit. So normally in some of the other webcamsin this specific test,it would be trying to adjust the lightthat was behind me, inreturn making myself darkand you not being able to see me at all.So this seemed to handle it quite well.I look forward to doingsome FaceTime calls on here.Maybe I'll call my sister.Let's see what she's doing.Let's see what she doing.Nervous, I'm so nervous, I'm so nervous.Oh I hope she answers. This is not Jenna. This is.(Ed chattering)- Hi.Oh god.- You don't even know how scary that was.I thought you got kidnapped.- We all arehaving a quarter meetupbecause we're walking Mattyand we saw our friends.- What device are you on?- I can't tell you, does it look good?Does the device look good?- It looks pretty great, but like, what is that?- What are you doing? You on a secret device?- Maybe, I don't know, does it look good?- Yeah, well I'm alsooutside, so I'm not on wifi.- Okay. How's my audio sound? Is the audio sound good too?- Yeah, you sound good.- This is great, thank you for participating. You guys have a nice walk.- Alright, bye.See ya.- Bye.Oh, wow.The device looks good.I also realized while editingthat I didn't tell you guysthe specs of this Mac.So this is the 3.6 gigahertz,10-core Intel Core i9.It has 64 gigs of ram and it's runningthe AMD Radium Pro 5700XT 16 GB graphics cards. So this is a pretty solid iMacand things are going quite well.I look forward to seeing whatyou guys think of the videoand what you guys think of thewhole iMac refresh right now. There's so much happeningin the world of tech,so it's always really fun tobe able to get a chance to testthese out for you guys.I also plan on moving this iMacback where my other iMac wasbecause this is my streamingstation and all of the streamsthat I have been doing over on Twitch,I've actually beenstreaming on my iMac Pro.So I'm definitely gnna testthis out and see how ithandles all of my streaming setup. So let's spec one of these outand just take a look and see.So here it is.Oh my gosh, they're doinglike a little three cam,multi-cam edit there. So obviously this is the 27 inchand yes they do still havethe 21 and a half inch iMac.This iMac is starting at 1,799,which when you think about allthat you're getting in thisall in one device, it's pretty incredible. So here's the 21 inch optionsthat they currently have available. And this is the new 27 inch.So we have three differentmodels to choose from.Oh boy. There's a 3.1 gigahertz 6-core processor. There's the 3.3 gigahertz 6-core.And that has the TurboBoost to 4.8 gigahertzwith 512 gigs of storage. And then the 3.8gigahertz 8-core processorwith a Turbo Boost, 512 gigs of storage. So it looks like itranges from 1,799 to 2,299starting price for one of these.Nano texture glass is an additional 500.Worth it.I can't wait until we havea nano texture MacBook.Hello, Apple please, sign me up.(orchestral music)Sign me up.I think I've just completed my edit.I guess I'll see youguys in my next video.I am gonna do a streaming set up on here,so if you guys aren't subscribedto my YouTube channelalready, make sure you do so.And if you enjoyed thisvideo, hit the like, and if you guys have anyquestions about this iMac,leave them in the commentsbelow and I will try to answerthem in my next video. So that's it.I'll see you guys later. Thanks for watching.\n"
