a room choose the home move it to upstairs hallway and now it works right from the app or with our assistant hey google turn on hallway dimmer got it just like that there it goes next we want to do amazon alexa so we're going to head into the amazon app and then you're going to go to more you're going to go to skills and you're going to search for tp-link casa and here we're going to enable to use we're then going to sign in and authorize our account once you've linked your account it's going to ask to discover devices so we're going to tap discover all right so here it found new devices and then here we have upstairs hallway so we're going to tap on it here we can turn on and off the light and then we can also go back to our groups so under hallway we're going to tap edit and then we're going to scroll down and find upstairs hallway and there it is save and so now we can use voice commands turn off upstairs hallway set upstairs hallway to 50 brightness set upstairs hallway to 100 brightness all right and that is the main switch let's head down to the satellite switch okay here is our satellite switch so it allows us to turn on and off the light just like normal we can also change the brightness now on this side there is no led indicator so you can't see how bright the light is other than by visually seeing how bright it is um turn it off let's go ahead and hold it down and there it did our gentle turn on and off so hold it down again and there it is doing the gentle off if you want to adjust any settings here you're just going to do the same where you go into the cosa app and adjust so it adjusts at both ends alright so i changed that to long press instant on and off let's go ahead and try it out long press boom they're on boom they're off now if you do use other casa products there are all kinds of different scenes that you can create with movie night good night and other custom scenes with these smart lights so that's really interesting to check out so another one is the actions so here we're going to add an action and you can create different actions based on motion sensing controlling with a switch scheduling a scene auto off timer or cancel so maybe i want these lights to automatically turn off let's do auto off timer we're going to select the upstairs hallway save and then we can set the time so if we want it to turn off after one minute we select save and select complete give it a name great and so now after one minute of the light being turned on it's automatically going to turn off the light now let's go ahead and create another action i'm going to create a control with a switch action so here with this i'm going to use the cana lights to automatically turn off the hallway lights so i'm going to choose can lights and then i'm going to go and choose the upstairs hallway select save and select complete and we're going to call this upstairs lights all right and now we have our smart action created now that i have my actions set up where i control the cam lights it's going to turn off the hallway lights let's test it out so here press the button for the canned lights and those turn on shortly after one more time turn off can lights are off those turn off as well let's flip this around so you can see the other way okay so i turn on the can lights there they're on and now the hallway lights turn on push it again those lights turn off and then the hallway now that is cool now one of the main difficulties of finding a smart three-way dimmer is that sometimes it will make the led lights flicker now i've not noticed any flickering with these lights and it is able to go very dim so these are definitely a product i can recommend now when i did use these i had an issue with getting them set up there was just some issue with the firmware where it wasn't working properly so i had to reach out to tp-link they have to they were able to help me update the firmware and now everything is working great so if you do see some reviews on the negative that's why um so hopefully they're able to figure out a way to get that to update on its own without needing to contact tp-link support but other than that issue i think these are awesome three-way dimmers to have in your home if you are needing those if you have any further questions about them please let me know in the comments below and i'll also leave a link to it down there in the description thank you so much for watching we'll see you on the next one
The Almost Perfect 3-Way Smart Dimmer Light Switch
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enin today's video we're going to check out the tp-link casa smart wi-fi dimmer switch 3-way kit so this allows you to control a light that has two different light switches it is compatible with amazon voice assistant google assistant as well as smart things so here we have a full range of brightness we can do three-way control so controlling from multiple locations voice commands we can adjust the fade on and off rate we can set schedules and then we can even use smart actions which unlocks a lot of really cool features and then this is a wi-fi connected device so that means you'll be able to control it when you're home or even away from home with your phone and then this is just one of the many tp-link devices that you can get and the casa app is available on android as well as ios devices so here this does come with two different switches one of them is going to be the main switch and one is going to be the satellite switch so here on the main switch you can see that on the back we have a neutral wire as well as a ground and then we have a spot for a travel wire as well as the line wire and then we have the other travel wire so this is where the power will come in to your switch and here is the satellite switch which has a ground as well as two traveler wires and one of them will also have the load wire and inside the box you also get a few screws as well as wire nuts to get everything connected together and then here we have two one gang face plates that we can use and then we also have some instructions and then this wire guide to help wire your labels so that you know exactly what is what now the first step is we need to remove the switches to find where the line or the power is coming into the three-way switch and then when you remove these highly recommend to take a picture so that you can go back to the original wiring if you ever need to reference it and then i'm going to turn off the power and then using my voltage tester i'm going to make sure that no power is coming to this box looks like we're good now for the next steps we're going to use the quick start guide you can also use the casa app to be able to understand how to do this but the first step is we need to find which light switch the power or line is coming in to the light switches now we're going to head down to the other switch and remove it as well double check to make sure the power is off and then before wiring on the new switches unlike i did right now you want to put wire caps on and turn back on the power and find which one is the line coming in so here on this one gang we have power and down here in this box we do not have any power so now we know the one with the power is where the main switch is going to go and the satellite switch is going to go over here here on the main switch location i'm going to start by wiring the green to the ground next i'm going to take the line wire and wire it to the black now you'll notice it has some electrical tape on it typically before you pull off your existing switches you'll see that it's attached to the black screw so that can give you an indication on which one is the line before you pull off those and then here i have my first travel wire that i'm going to attach and then you want to make sure you're attaching the same color of travel wire on both so here we're doing a black on the red screw and then the other travel wire is going to be the white and it's going on the silver screw and then last we're going to take the neutral and attach it to the neutral bundle in the back of the box once the main switch is installed i'm then going to head to the other end to install the satellite switch and here on the satellite end i'm going to start with the ground cable then we're going to take the white traveler wire and put it on the silver screw and then we're going to take the black travel wire as well as the load wire which is the wire that goes up and turns on the light both of those onto the red screw on the satellite switch then we're going to install it but not upside down silly oh that looks much better and these screwless plates just snap into place so i went and turned the power back on and i tried to set it up in the casa app but all i would get was this red blinking wi-fi symbol and that means it is not ready to connect so to make a long story short i reached out to support and found that for whatever reason the software on this light switch did not allow it to operate properly so they finally were able to get me a software update and as soon as i was able to update that through my computer the switch worked perfectly so if you see this problem you may just have a faulty software that it shipped with and reach out to them to see if you can get it updated now running through the troubleshooting steps in the app it said to swap the travel wires on the satellite but no matter what i did nothing would work until i had that update once we turn on the power you should see a green and orange flashing light there and then the light should operate if it is not working properly your wiring may need to be adjusted you can check the app for more details there so now we're going to head into the casa app and i've already gone in and created my account so i'm going to select the plus up here at the top and now we're going to choose what device we're going to connect to so here we're going to connect to a device we have smart switches and then down here we have the smart three-way dimmer so we're going to tap on there says have you installed it if not you can go through the instructions here but yes i've already installed it is it blinking orange and green yes it is so we're going to tap orange on green it found the smart dimmer so it's asking to connect directly to that once we found the device now we're going to choose the wi-fi network we want it to connect to add our password and then is what we need to do is go to our wi-fi settings and double check that we are going to connect back on our network because it's temporarily connected to tp-link but now we need to tap back on the main network we want it to connect to once i've done that i'm going to go back into the app and now i'm going to give it a name upstairs hallway alright next and then i can choose the symbol i want i'm just going to keep the dimmer symbol there you can even take a picture and add it on here as well and then it's going to test the dimming range so slowly reduce the brightness of your smart dimmer until you find the minimum level of the light bulb so right now i'm just going to manually touch this so it's still on still on still on all right it's still on and it won't let me go any lower so that is definitely the minimum test and so now it's going to do a range test to see how bright the light can get and it's all good and continue now sometimes i've had to go and recalibrate that after i do a light so now it's giving us some instructions on our smart dimmer so here if we tap the toggle that will turn on and off the light so let's turn the brightness here so that will turn on and off the light just by touching it like that you can increase or decrease the brightness by using the buttons so if i go down or go up you can see the light indicating the level of brightness and then if i long press it will turn it off or it will turn it all the way to full brightness and then you can also integrate with other casa smart devices with using the different scenes and actions and so on and then there are some other advanced settings so let's go ahead and check those out so here in the app we have our upstairs hallway we can turn it on and off just like that it has a nice on and off rate i can quickly adjust the different brightnesses here so it has like a full 75 50 percent and i can edit those presets if i want let's keep it at 100. so then down here you have the power option or you can adjust the brightness with the wheel here to the exact brightness that you want it to be at then if we go into our settings here we can change the name we have our smart dimmer configuration so we can adjust how fast it turns on so right now the turn on or fade on is as fast you also have instant you have medium or you have slow so let's try instant so that's for the turn on so that's the slow off and on just instantly turns it on then we have medium so off is still slow medium is slowly brightens up that's kind of nice you know at night you wouldn't want it blinding you immediately and then we have slow and then we turn it on and it takes some time to go all the way up i actually really like that fast speed so we're going to keep it at fast then we have the option to change the long press so we can have the long press be instant on and off or we can do gentle on and off or if you want it to go to a certain preset dim level you can also do the preset there but we're going to go gentle on off and so those are the dimming configurations here you have the led status so you could turn that off that's this little led right here so if we don't want that on you do have the option to turn that off and then down here you can adjust the calibration and so on everything looks good works great let's go ahead and check out the presets here oh so here's the gentle off so that really takes some time to slowly turn off you can adjust all your presets there and so on next you have your schedule so you can create a schedule where it automatically turns on or turns off and then you can set a time you can also adjust the fade rate on those schedules then we have the option for a timer here so let's say you want to turn off the light in 30 minutes you can come in here and select start to turn off the timer so here in the away mode is what this will do is it will automatically turn on and off your light at random times kind of acting like your home so you can go in and set when you're going to be away hit start and then here it says it's automatically going to be adjusting the times when you're away and so down here you can have it repeat like during the day or during the later times in the evening to turn the light on and off and so on so now let me show you how to connect it with your voice assistant you use first we're going to start with google assistant in the google home app so you're going to head up here and tap the plus and then you're going to select the setup device and then down here there's an option that's called works with google so you're going to tap on that you're going to use the search or scroll down and find casa now i actually already have tp-link casa connected so i don't need to reconnect it or anything but i've already logged into my account once you authorize your account go back to the home page here and down at the bottom alright so here we should have our hallways so here we have hallway dimmer turn on and turn off so i'm going to tap on that i'm going to add it to a room choose the home move it to upstairs hallway and now it works right from the app or with our assistant hey google turn on hallway dimmer got it just like that there it goes next we want to do amazon alexa so we're going to head into the amazon app and then you're going to go to more you're going to go to skills and you're going to search for tp-link casa and here we're going to enable to use we're then going to sign in and authorize our account once you've linked your account it's going to ask to discover devices so we're going to tap discover all right so here it found new devices and then here we have upstairs hallway so we're going to tap on it here we can turn on and off the light and then we can also go back to our groups so under hallway we're going to tap edit and then we're going to scroll down and find upstairs hallway and there it is save and so now we can use voice commands turn off upstairs hallway set upstairs hallway to 50 brightness set upstairs hallway to 100 brightness all right and that is the main switch let's head down to the satellite switch okay here is our satellite switch so it allows us to turn on and off the light just like normal we can also change the brightness now on this side there is no led indicator so you can't see how bright the light is other than by visually seeing how bright it is um turn it off let's go ahead and hold it down and there it did our gentle turn on and off so hold it down again and there it is doing the gentle off if you want to adjust any settings here you're just going to do the same where you go into the cosa app and adjust so it adjusts at both ends alright so i changed that to long press instant on and off let's go ahead and try it out long press boom they're on boom they're off now if you do use other casa products there are all kinds of different scenes that you can create with movie night good night and other custom scenes with these smart lights so that's really interesting to check out so another one is the actions so here we're going to add an action and you can create different actions based on motion sensing controlling with a switch scheduling a scene auto off timer or cancel so maybe i want these lights to automatically turn off let's do auto off timer we're going to select the upstairs hallway save and then we can set the time so if we want it to turn off after one minute we select save and select complete give it a name great and so now after one minute of the light being turned on it's automatically going to turn off the light now let's go ahead and create another action i'm going to create a control with a switch action so here with this i'm going to use the canva lights to automatically turn off the hallway lights so i'm going to choose can lights and then i'm going to go and choose the upstairs hallway select save and select complete and we're going to call this upstairs lights all right and now we have our smart action created now that i have my actions set up where i control the cam lights it's going to turn off the hallway lights let's test it out so here press the button for the canned lights and those turn on shortly after one more time turn off cam lights are off those turn off as well let's flip this around so you can see the other way okay so i turn on the can lights there they're on and now the hallway lights turn on push it again those lights turn off and then the hallway now that is cool now one of the main difficulties of finding a smart three-way dimmer is that sometimes it will make the led lights flicker now i've not noticed any flickering with these lights and it is able to go very dim so these are definitely a product i can recommend now when i did use these i had an issue with getting them set up there was just some issue with the firmware where it wasn't working properly so i had to reach out to tp-link they have to they were able to help me update the firmware and now everything is working great so if you do see some reviews on the negative that's why um so hopefully they're able to figure out a way to get that to update on its own without needing to contact tp-link support but other than that issue i think these are awesome three-way dimmers to have in your home if you are needing those if you have any further questions about them please let me know in the comments below and i'll also leave a link to it down there in the description thank you so much for watching we'll see you on the next onein today's video we're going to check out the
